  How are the Denim Police in your area?

  our co will not let the no denim at bethel prohibition die.. in recent visits to nearby congos he has made it very clear that denim is not to be worn at meetings or in field circus.. if any of the "aged women" notice younger women wearing the forbidden fabric, they are to speak with them.

  anything like this happen in your area?.

  I hate that the WBTS allows this by stating that you should be obedient to the customs in your area. They take a hands-off approach. If your local elders don't like sleeveless dresses, too bad. Get some sleeves. No mustaches? Too bad. Shave. You have no choice. Well, you do but it will result in your being ostracized and later ignored by the people in the congregation. There was a brother in our old conregation who had a little patch under his bottom lip. He was a servant but they wouldn't let him do anything because of the soul patch. He can't appeal to the Society because they say to do what the local elders do and leave them out of it.

  Personally, I was shocked to see how they changed the translation of certain scriptures in the Bible to fit with their own doctrine. Further, even when they don't actually change the scripture, they change the meaning of the scriptures in ways that I would never have guessed. The logic that they use to rationalize the 144,000 in Revelation being a literal number is childish.

  This topic reminds me of a Watchtower article from last year where they said that science, when it disagrees with the Bible Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, is wrong. Period. It may be correct or believable in every other way, but if opposes something published by the Organization, science is always trumped.

  I have always had a problem with this. Why did some of us have to wait until the Crisis of Conscience book to come out before we could get some kind of understanding how the Organization really works?

  For instance, the GB has to vote on important things that drive and control the organization. Why? If it's Christ run, shouldn't they all be of the same mind, thus totally negating the need to vote? What happens when some vote against the majority? Are they secretly working for Satan? If whatever is approved by the vote becomes JW "law", how can you explain why the opposers voted against it?

  How is it determined when it is time to discover a new understanding of a scripture? What brought it about? What was wrong with the last explanation?

  Apostasy Now

  i have no evidence to back up what i am about to say.

  i have no paperwork, no recordings, no photos, no nothing.

  and yet this nags at me.. i have this sneaky feeling that soon the wbts is going to broaden their view of "apostasy" and begin to include people who don't currently fit into their apostate views.. i have this itch that's telling me that, basically, if you present anything negative concerning the truth, you are at risk of being hauled before an elder body and punished for this somehow (disfellowshipping, reproof?)..

  here's why i say that.......it's like they are a couple, and god wants to break it off...but is having a really hard time doing so...... 1. garden of eden...satan starts trashing god, calls him a liar, and gets a couple to turn away from god....so this screw up (oh interferes with) gods big plan......and he doesn't zap satan?...he doesn't even punish satan?...he just curses snakes and takes their legs away??....fishy.

  The old and new testament are so totally different, unrelated, and disconnected I can't see how anybody thinks they belong together. The mindset of God himself is completely different. You go from angry war god, killing people brutally for the smallest infractions, to peace-loving, let's forgive everybody for all sins in an instant? What gives?

  What would be the iceburg to the WT's Titanic?

  the illustration in my question was inspired by the great mr flipper who likened going back to the borg as "swimming back to the titanic".

  it seems to me that the many and various things that woke us all up are like iceflows to the wtbs,little bumps that they shrug off and ignore,it dosn't seem to matter that these things are huge to us,and shattered our faith that the wt had any connection with truth.. so as the u.n debacle,peadophile scandals,lies exposed etc etc are all ignored by the passengers on the wt titanic,the band is still playing and the ship is unsinkable from their point of view.. what would be the iceburg that would rip a hole in the side of this floating ship of lies?.

  i cannot think of anything bigger than the things it now shrugs off,any ideas?.

  Outside of the entire Governing Body being indicted and convicted for some pretty horrible federal crimes of some sort, it's going to be hard to take down the organization with a direct hit. It's too big.

  As has been mentioned, it can run out of gas, though. If the money stops pouring in or is no longer sufficient to support all of its members, you will see the Organization respond with something panicky, which should be a big red flag to anybody paying attention. Mandatory tithing, heavy suggestion that people leave their proprerty to the Organization instead of their own children, and things like that.

  But I don't think that's likely to happen anytime soon.

  Our best hope is disease or poison. Something has to spread throughout the Organization, and the internet is our best bet for that. Sites like this one and youtube are a huge help. It pleases my heart when I see an ex-JW or anti-JW or even questioning-JW video and it has several thousand hits. There is enough damaging and legitimate information out there about the WBTS that people don't have to make things up. People can't say "that's not true."

  The only real hope the WBTS has right now, believe it or not, is young people. There are plenty of 40+ year old people dragging it on. Statistics already show that young people are flying out of the Truth like bats out of hell. At this rate, the Society has about 20 years of life left and then it will no longer be able to sustain itself, especially the congregations in the United States.

  I am confident that the Organization won't last much longer than 20 years or so, at least not in its current state. There will be pockets and fragments here or there but we are witnessing now the beginning of the end. We are already seeing signs of desperation. I predict that next the Society will act in such a way that it encourages some kind of persecution. Witnesses like it when they are being persecuted. It makes them feel useful. I am anticipating there will be some new arrangement where we have to act in such a way that is opposed to some secular authority. It's coming. It will backfire. Hardcore people will just take the persecution, but more people will leave. Young people won't even bother.

  someone a week or so ago posted a link to a youtube channel by the ex-gilead bible school guy (sorry, i know ex-gilead bible school guy is not his name, but i forgot what it was).. many, many people have had the "light bulb" go off after they have read parts of or all of the bible without using the wbts "research" material.

  some of these people think that the jws have a twisted understanding of the bible and others come to the realization that the bible is just a made up book of stories.. either way, reading the bible on its own helps you to see that jw's have it all wrong no matter how you slice it up.

  and you can see that even if you read their own heavily altered nwt bible.

Some of these people think that the JWs have a twisted understanding of the Bible and others come to the realization that the Bible is just a made up book of stories.

  Either way, reading the Bible on its own helps you to see that JW's have it all wrong no matter how you slice it up. And you can see that even if you read their own heavily altered NWT Bible. (Which reminds me: Why does the WBTS always say that they don't have their own Bible, but clearly they do?)

  I wish I could get my wife to do that. I even suggested it one time. She thought I was crazy. "Why would I do that?" was her Borg-inspired response.

  One of the discussions by the religious this morning is that this is clear evidence of the existence of God. This has even some of the JWs beaten on stupidity because at least the JWs teach the whole "time and unforseen circumstance" business.

  There were some church ladies "oh lawd"ing this morning and "thank you Jesus"ing. Of course, the next logical question is: Why does God save this plane but let many of them crash and burn? If it was God that maneuvered the plane, doesn't that diminish any piloting skill at all by the human controlling the plane? Is he just a sucker with a pilot's license? Three kids died in a fire not to far from my home last night, presumably due to a space heater incident. God had finished saving the plane passengers by then. He couldn't quickly come down and put the fire out?

  it is easier to describe what spiritual direction does than what spiritual direction is.

  The WBTS is usually pretty careful to define what they want to be as "spiritual mindedness". This means that you are falling in line with their rules and regulations, behaving as they expect you to behave and being obedient. It's the same sort of wordplay that they use when they differentiate between "freedom of speech" and "freeness of speech". The former means that you have the right to say and the latter means that you're supposed to be going out knocking on doors every Saturday morning.

  So they will seldom refer to someone as being spiritual but they will use the words "spiritual minded" which is their on brand name for spirituality.
