we often need a laugh on fridays, so we post just for fun.. to honor the wedding-hype from britain this friday, post anything with a wedding theme just for fun.. pics, jokes, vids, personal stories- wedding theme:.
.
this topic is about the difference between how we see the world and how it really is.. we each have our own way.. some of us try to be mostly rational.. others, prefer a more religious, spiritual or mystical approach.. i'd say most ordinary people (non-specialists) mix the two.. .
with that premise in mind, i say the following:.
dropping an egg on the floor tests the integrity of the egg well-enough as measured against gravity :).
I never knew that I needed to test my OWN philosophy and world view - I just figured there is right and there is wrong and I am right. Is there something that I am missing?
....that made you decide to leave the botchtower society?
.
Being married to an elder that was a total hypocrite, yet loved and admired by all.
on this topic we don't care what you are against.. let's be positive and tell three things we are for which are meaningful to us.. .
1.music lessons for kids.
learning to read music and play an instrument.. 2.memory training and math strategies in schools.
OH PROPHECOR - You must be my long lost Soul Mate!
after flipper's thread about the wt child abuse cases, i started to think about how many children i know of personally who have been sexually abused by a jw!.
as someone who is not especially 'in the know', it's amazing that i do know five of them.
one who was a small baby, at the time!.
The above cases were all very public, that is why I knew about them. I shudder to think of the untold many that did not make it to the newspapers or end in a public pregnancy.
my 2nd-time widowed fil is remarrying this summer at the age of 73. his fiancee is a never-before-married woman in her mid-50s with one adult son.
his children are pretty mad about the upcoming nuptials.
they feel the woman is a gold digger.
My widowed FIL (age 75) married a sister in his hall that was 42. We were all totally against the marriage. He was well to do and newly baptized. Within 3 years (of living on McDonalds, Wendys and Burger King) he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He died shortly after the diagnosis. He had a will that gave everything to his two children (my husband at the time). However, since the will was drawn up a year before his new marriage it was worthless. She got EVERYTHING (including the salt and pepper shakers and family pictures). He had a large life insurance policy made out to his daughter, but somehow the new wife ended up with that too (long story, but true). The family took her to the elders and then took her to court, however in CO law the wife gets everything if there is not a will (and his will was not valid).
There is no fool like an old fool
I am totally for marrying at any age, but only for Love. No other reasons are good enough in my book.

I am sure she realizes that you are the real thing, unlike most of the people she associates with.
sorry for the redundancy of this being the 3rd article out of this magazine i've made a thread on- but i felt it was important to share these quotes from the aricle titled " make your way successful - how ?
" i think you'll see the extreme dissing of higher education here and guilt tactics used to discourage jw members from getting a college education or earning a decent living.. under the subheading " higher education " ?
it states, " a christian has a scriptural obligation to care for his family, and that includes providing for their material needs.
" Becoming absorbed in a secular job can rob a Christian of the energy needed to maintain his own spiritual balance and to assist his family. If a Christian is overly involved in a secular career, he can end up having prolonged, severe stress. Such a person can even become enslaved to a career to the extent of experiencing burnout. More important, would he have enough physical and emotional strength left to carry out his duties in the family and to engage in spiritual activities ?"
This has a similar ring to what happened to my ex.... I have to say the society almost got it right this time...
Dave became so absorbed in the congregation that he used every ounce of energy serving the cong. He lost all balance of life and was unable to assist his family in anything other than a ride to the KH 3 times a week. He was under incredible stress and was a total slave to the Sunset Park congregation and their body of elders. Even though he was running ragged from burnout, the congregation continued to pile on him more than he could physically and emotionally keep up with. He totally fogot he had a family which resulted in the wife and girls leaving him and disowning him as a father and a husband. He ended up in the hospital having an emotional breakdown.
What a stupid group of men writing this bullshit and destroying families with it!
