In the late 70's I was part of a (JW) wedding party that had 7 bridesmaids. After the wedding and before the reception, the whole 14 party entourage and the new bride and groom drove (in 3 packed cars) to some dive motel where the bride and groom consummated their wedding vows. We (14) all waited outside (for about 3 minutes) until the Bride and groom rejoined us and we all drove to the reception. I do not think anyone in the party including B & G were over 18.

The classic features of a JW wedding are:
by highdose infirstly a wedding/sales talk that mostly features heavily on how the woman should behave (hint, doormat) and lightly brushes over the fact of the husbands bevhaviour ( oh yeah he should treat her well).
the reception normaly at some crummy comunity hall with yellowed ceilings and chucks of damp plaster falling off the walls.
the seats normaly arranged facing eachother all around the edge, so that theres a huge unused space in the middle and everyone is climbing over everyone elses legs to get to their chair.. a big spread donated by everyone, normaly an ode to food poisoning.

What a great thread!
My reception was at a gorgeous restaurant, with a sit down dinner and endless flowing booze. Everyone really enjoyed drinking except me - I was underage.
If I ever tie the knot again it will be on a beach, barefoot, with only people I like. So stupid to throw a wedding and invite 300 people you cannot stand.

Doubtful's Review of Special Day Assembly
by doubtful ini hate assemblies.
i can't stand the contrived, rehearsed, robotic sound of the interviews and experiences.
i can't stand the repeated references to the fds, and i especially can't stand the college education bashing that seems to be thrown in there in just about every other talk.. here's my assesment of the assembly:.

looky looky - A 'real' J-dub forum! (are they becoming normal???)
by Reality79 inso did the 'da society' give these dub internet savvies permission to start a forum?
because last i checked, the ole boys in their oversized brooklyn bunker didn't want their members on the internet unless it was to view their own official websites.
i thought maybe it was an apostate forum until i read their long winded, typically condescending jdub style membership guidelines:.

So sorry you are going through this! You will find (in time) that being single is WAY MUCH BETTER than being in a strained marriage.

As my father said .."It is like a time out for a naughty child"
And as I replied "I will let you know when I feel like taking that time out in one of those uncomfortable back row chairs."

The JW funeral talk outline - poor taste or REALLY poor taste?
by Mr. Falcon inso i attended a funeral for a jw who passed away (non-"annointed) and i would have to state that although i have heard the standard funeral talk outline for dozens of funerals i've attended, i never really took the time to listen.
and my god, i was cringing.
the outline is essentially broken down like this:.

They always read the scripture..."better the day of one's death than the day of his birth..."
SUCH ABSOLUTE DISRESPECT - especially for someone that was not considered old. What were the parents thinking?..."Oh yes, we should be happy our child died - much funner than when she was born."

They really are pooping their pants over these latest "signs"...
by undercover ini've seen a few threads/posts where some of y'all have heard from jw contacts and how they've stepped up their 'the end is close' rhetoric because of the earthquake/tsunami in japan.
i usually take those things with a grain of salt.
there's always some jw whose cheese has slipped that reads prophecy into every little thing that happens.

Yes, the JW's that still communicate with me are absolutely ecstatic about the lastest earthquake.
This is just the kind of stuff the GB needs to keep the fanaticism going.
My parents are calling me around the clock in hopes of reaching my heart before I am sentenced to everlasting death. Thank God Spring Break is almost here, and my cell phone will not work where I am going. Maybe they will calm down by the time I get back.
Lost Generation - Great comparison

My oldest daughter spent her senior year at an all girls Catholic School in Sendai 3 years ago. Her host family contacted her last night to let her know that they are okay (despite not having any water). However, a lot of her friends she went to school with are unaccounted for. My heart breaks for these beautiful people. I wish there was more I could do.
