by drew sagan inthe recent threads by pistoff got me thinking that some youtube vids of the hard line positions being taught from the platform would be pretty cool.
if you're already going, why not get us some documentation .
of course it might already be up on http://www.jwproclaimers.org/ for all i know.. it's a shame you don't know what conventions the gb is going to show up at because it really would be good to get those guys on tape no matter what..

I will be attending here in Tucson. A researcher asked me to tape it for him, but i had never thought about video cam in big purse. ! I was about to pick up a micro recorder. I might even transcribe the talks, as i love to type. -- What would be the reaction if someone started video taping, especially someone without a name tag? um, just curious.

AGAIN with the college bashing
by Pistoff inok so the mate took good notes at the ca and here is the newest on "higher education:.
the usual bashing of motives: those who want great wealth, prestige and seek it in a college educationcollege graduates don't always get jobs in their fieldsdrugs, drinking and sex are "rampant" at collegesthose who want to "snatch us away" are near if we go to college (isa 54)if we seek a college education, we are not spiritual mindedthe most disturbing for me was this:.
those who choose college will not get blessings from jehovahand of course there was the obligatory interview with the college graduate who disdains the education whe received.. .

The 2 young witnesses i really care about are in college currently. (One is in a very high tech major, that will make big money. horrors!) I hope the org keeps up with this kind of talk. What effect does this have on those currently in college? IS there a chance it could cause them to re-evaluate and maybe even leave, even sooner than they would have otherwise? I hope so!

Awakened at Gilead, former J.W. missionary on the conference call Sat.May9
by koolaid-man inour special guest on the six screens of the watchtower conference call, saturday may 9, 7 p.m.est will be a former jehovah's witness gilead graduate and missionary.
his electrifying you tube videos are attracting many people and exposing the watchtower for so many of their false doctrines.
you may know him better as awakened at gilead who will fill us in on what really goes on behind the "spurious" doors of gilead.so do something extraordinary this saturday, dial in to the conference call.

For those who have never done the conference call, it can also be heard through a PalTalk chat room. Personally, i found this easier than being on the phone. You can chat with the people who are also listening while it is going on. I think the info on how to get there is on RIck's web site.

WT :They Don't Even Know the Bible!
by metatron inwe may argue about doctrine but sometimes the watchtower and awake magazines suggest that their writers are simple minded hacks who don't really know the bible as an objective subject.
i say this because of glaring omissions that often occur.. example: some years ago, the watchtower hierarchy legislated that no one should clap when a disfellowshipped person is announced as reinstated.
in discussions about this, they never brought up the bible account about the prodigal son and his father's reaction to his return!

I was noticing in the Bible teach book that not only are verses used out of context, they often use PORTIONS of verses, like "CORRESPONDING RANSOM", with no regard to the rest of the VERSE!
I somewhat agree with jaguarbass when he said, "Conclusion: the bible says anything that you want it to." This is true if one has no regard whatsoever for previous church fathers, history, and especially the first few ecumenical councils. Although I am not personally Roman Catholic, I do believe in 'catholicity', that is valuing what has gone before. Even the Protestant reformers who taught "Sola Scriptura" did not agree with any nutjob sitting down and saying, i throw out all that has gone before, and i will sit down and figure out the Bible for myself, because they are all wrong. That is the beginning of a cult right there! And that is a misunderstanding of what the Reformers meant by Sola Scriptura.
I'm reading an interesting book on church history by Jaroslav Pelikan, where he explains 3 'tests' of orthodoxy. Is it believed in most places, over most of church history, by most. Ubiquity, antiquity, and consent. I found that really helpful and interesting.

Anyone know about this pro JW website?
by middleman inlooks interesting.... .
http://www.scripturaltruths.com/.

I just skimmed through it. Are there any names on there at all, or is it all annonymous? I like how the section 'about us' does not give any names or anything 'about them', just a brief statement of beliefs. It has a strange feel.

The JW family we have come to know has been rude to my daughter, who is graduating in the same class with their son. They have been best friends over the 4 years, liked each other off and on, and spent tons of time together, mostly here. She's never been invited over there, and they dont' acknowledge her in any way when they see her at school functions. It really creeps me out, and she notices it too. Her interest in becoming JW, or going to any meetings is exactly zero. (Thank God) Maybe that's why they show no interest in her, and just hope she'll just go away after graduation.

Is being a JW like being a drug addict?
by mkr32208 inok so once again i was thinking (damn i know i should stop doing that!
) and this is what i was thinking about!.
the jw religion is very much like a drug.

Hi Mkr - There is a book i've read that elaborates on that thought called Toxic Faith by Steve Arterburn; i think he's a counslor or psychologist. It's not anti-religion, just shows the difference between authentic faith that is helpful ,and toxic faith that is damaging. He also has one called More Jesus Less Religion, which looks good too.

The Memorial is a fraud
by truthseeker ini received my memorial invite this weekend.. the title of this tract is "keep doing this in remembrance of me".
those who are used to celebrating mass and partaking of the bread and wine could be forgiven for imagining that the same thing would happen if they accepted an invite to the memorial.. the memorial speaker tells the audience all that jesus has done for us.. this is where the fraud comes in.
he describes two flocks with two different hopes, the great crowd has the earthly hope and those of the little flock have the heavenly hope.. many of those interested ones who accepted the invitation to attend the memorial may already have the heavenly hope, but the memorial talk shuts the "kingdom of heaven" to these ones.. there is also nothing in the scriptures to indicate that jesus only allowed the little flock to partake of the emblems.. and so the audience engages in a kind of pass the parcel game, with the bread and the wine, not knowing who, if anyone is actually going to partake.

I was thinking the same thing when i got my invite at the door yesterday. Instead of "Keep Doing This in Remembrance of Me", it should be more straightforward and say, "Keep watching this in remembrance of Me".
I usually enjoy having some dialogue with the Witnesses when i run into them, and sometimes set up an appointment. BUt yesterday felt like a 'hit and run'. There was only one woman, and she was hardly looking at me directly, and gave her 15 second comment, handing me the invite, and ran back out to the car that was on the street, and had other people in it, and was still moving!
I was also wondering about the Watchtower's view of the dating of the book of Revelation. It is usually dated significantly later than the Pauline epistles, so how did anyone know for years that Paul's letters only apply to the 144,000? Would they just say all believers were in that class during those early years?
I'm going, though. Maybe i can leave some web sites , or Watchtower dollars in the bathroom.
cheers!
