Is it offensive to invite JW to birthday party?
by AuntBee inthe jw is long time best friend of my daughter, and she's having her 18th soon, surprise party.
i'm assuming it's best to just not invite him.
i don't want to offend him by inviting him, but i just want to be sure it won't hurt his feelings if i don't invite him.

i'm talking about a late teenager, over here often.
he eats snacks and junk from the freezer, fast food brought in, stuff i have baked, but never anything i offer when we're eating.

Lots of familiar JW doctrine in Ellen G White
by AuntBee inhttp://www.greatcontroversy.org/books/gc/gc.html.
see especially chapters 17 - 24, for those who are interested.
basically, this is ellen white recounting in her own words the millerite movement, the great disappointment, and how she and others would never accept that he was wrong.

Armageddon and Inward sins
by AuntBee indo jws believe that one will be destroyed at armageddon for inward sins, such as lack of love, unforigiveness, doing a 'spiritual' work from wrong motives ('to be seen of men'), lusful thoughts?
sins of omission, like not caring for the poor, not praying for one's enemies or rulers, not thinking of others more often and more highly than yourself?.
are some sins higher up on the sinfulness list, in that only some are 'mortal' sins, and with others, you can still get by?.

Questioning JWs on the verge of adulthood on the concept "age of majority"
by AuntBee inodd......now that you bring it up.....in my family (jw & non-jw) this doesn't happen until you are married.... sorta but they still question, reprove and insinuate their opinions and wills.. it might be a bit different for the boys but i hail from a family with a majority of girls.
i really never paid attention to how my parents treat my younger brothers beyond letting them get away with 'murder' (read-later curfew and being allowed to attend college out-of-state).. my husband (non-jw) is already 'brainwashing' our kids to live near (if not right next door) to us.. parenting apparently stops when you lay them in the ground..

") the 2 ladies came back to the door today, to give me the gift of a basket of fruit!
they said they didn't want to leave a bad taste, and we can still love our neighbors!

Martin Luther Sounds like He's talking about the WTBTS in the 1500's!
by AuntBee inusually i'm just a lurker.
i'm a chrirstian concerned for a jw teen, and wanting to understand what he's going through, and where he's coming from i don't usually post, but this morning i came upon this while reading from the sermons of martin luther , volume 1. he's speaking about luke 21:28.. "the godless fanatical preachers are to be censured who in their sermons deprive people of these words of christ and faith in them, who desire to make people devout by terrifying them and who teach them to prepare for the last day by relying upon their good works as satisfaction for their sins.
here despair, fear and terror must remain and grow and with it hatred, aversion and abhorrence for the coming of the lord, and enmity against god be established in the heart; for they picture christ as nothing but a stern judge whose heart must be appeased by works, and they never present him as the redeemer, as he calls and offers himself, of whom we are to expect that out of pure grace he will redeem us from sin and evil.. such is always the result where the gospel is not rightly proclaimed.
