Can't find info... Watchtower says it's written work is 'part of bible'
by mkr32208 inthere was a thread a few months back that contained a scan of (i think) the dec 15th watchtower where they said that the watchtower was to be considered part of the bible.
i really want to find that thread, i've been looking for hours i thought i had commented on it but it's not in my 'threads posted on' and i've been going through pages and pages and pages of threads and i've tried search but just can't find it.. .
does anyone who might have posted on that thread have a link to it?

Family is shunning us.
by AgentSmith inmrs smith and i have faded away for many years.
we knew the day will come that we would be questioned directly what our stand is.. this past holidays we were confronted by our jw family.
we told them the truth, we are not jw's anymore and that we go to any church that strikes our fancy.

Welcome to the club, Agent Smith, sorry to have you among us. There's not a single rational person on the planet who can understand how JWs can turn so arbitrarily on flesh and blood. Be prepared to feel frustration and anger for quite some time!

"Appostate literature is poison"
by TooBad TooSad inan elder said at the meeting sunday that "apostate literature.
is poison and that if you read it you run the risk of falling out.
of the truth as many of our dear brothers have.".

There are two books that most JWs will have in their 'theocratic' library that will most certainly have one leaving "the truth";
- the Bible
- the Proclaimers book
Anytime spent independently reading the Bible and absorbing the early history of the WTBTS as recorded in the Proclaimers book will more than likely have you end up leaving "the truth".

This is a tricky one to tackle a JW on and you could easily end up looking unreasonable. However, 'Christian teachings' were part of the Bible from the moment the 66 books were chosen to be the Bible. They at no point became part of the Bible at some later date.
That being said, it's clear from their use of the parenthesised "the truth" they mean something more than the books of Matthew through Revelation; JWs understand their religion to be "the truth". But as has been observed on this thread already, it's not explicitly stating they believe Watchtower teachings are part of the Bible.
For me this is up there with their statement "Jesus obviously did not intend to contradict God's Word". Er, Jesus is God's Word...For me it's all about them sowing little seeds, whether to insert their doctrine into the Bible canon or diminish Jesus Christ.

I'd view that as them tacitly responding to the accusation that they hardly ever talk about Jesus. Now they'll be using, as a text book, a book that...well...doesn't actually say too much about Jesus (it's more about the Great Teacher aka FDS) but acts like it does.

Another 1975 explanation - get your barf bag
by kurtbethel inthis is from a jw discussion group that tends to be full of apologists for the teachings.
when we lived in livermore, ca a special talk was given by brother from bethel.
he used an illustration that really stuck with me to describe the role of the fds.

What's interesting is that many JWs will say, when challenged over 1975 (or 1925), "well, the brothers just ran ahead of Jehovah".
The March 2009 Study WT states that the FDS has never run ahead of Jehovah. Thus they would never, surely, give 'false alarms' or state that they have knowledge of the 'times and seasons'.
So, which is it? Did they 'just' run ahead or did they not run ahead?

I should add that many congregations have a shepherding log whereby each elder reports who he has visited and when. This is reviewed bi-annually ahead of the CO visit to make sure that the flock has been 'adequately' shepherded. It's not unusual for elders to go on a shepherding spree, visiting as many families as they can in the month leading up to the CO visit so that they can update the shepherding log accordingly.

Elders can't count their time while on shepherding calls. They can count their time when giving public talks tho!

The reasons I stopped attending meetings, before DAing, were that I didn't believe in their chronology, their interpretation of the "faithful and discreet slave" parable and that I didn't agree with the statement made at the 2008 District Convention;
"We must give the faithful and discreet slave class credit for teaching us the truth".
1. the Holy Spirit alone leads us to truth
2. the faithful and discreet slave class led me to a lie - 1914
But there's no way people like me would be counted (before I DAd at least) as being worthy to be rescued by the shepherds. One elder who came to visit me after I made it known I wouldn't be back to the meetings, told me to "forget what Jesus said". Yes, that's exactly what the Great Shepherd would want...
