Members will try to throw the best light on the subject- theo warfare style. The public can smell a rat boys and girls, this one is a big rat.

  This forum is an avenue to spread truth. The Media will not make this case common in all markets unless we make and issue of it.
  I live 300 miles from Chicago and the story was'nt picked off of the wire by our local paper. The ped stuff in NH got page 12 after the convictions. If this gets pushed hard it will go to "60 Minutes" or " Dateline".

  What did the elders know and when did they know it? Why did'nt they protect those kids? Cook County takes kids from less abusive situations daily cause people in the know care. The local JW leadership must not care or that baby would be alive today.

  How does somebody beat 5 kids regularly with out the elders knowing? Hell, they're worried and first too know if a couple of kids "make out " a little. They hunt you like a dog if you catch their wrong dates and ask for a "recount" out loud.

  We know why- does John Q Public? The WT needs to account to our neighbors on this one. If the rank and file got hammered on this at every doorstep this weekend it would be a blessing. John Q just needs the story in every media market to draw his own conclusion about the "good news" deliverd to his porch.

  They know if you talked to a DF'ed cousin or something-yet- ignorant of systematic beatings.---spare me! Just the sheperds I'd leave my sheep with.
  As a policy they can't claim to have the clergy's protection to confidence of confessions (they aint Clergy, remember)

  Past my prime and now I'm tired

  ok, so i became a jw when i was in my mid 20's.

  i was in my prime.. i was so busy being a witness, taking in the truth, pioneering bla bla bla that i feel like i've missed out on life totally.

  now i'm pushing 40 and i'm tired.

  Look on the bright side-----If you stop active JW-ing you'll get at least 20 hours of your week back. Plus, not living in the fishbowl of that man pleasing, works ahead of faith, artificial pressure to be prematurly perfect world you almost have to get the "OL ZIP" back.

  my sister in-law is a 10th grade honors student.

  she is 14 and currently enrolled in english ii - a required course.

  she and her fellow students are studing the holocaust in thier honors english class.. the teacher has instructed them to do the following:.

  Mommy- that's a terrible way to learn about trauma, and yes, we don't always get to pick were we will "learn"about morbid events. However, past experience has show us that we can shape our youths concience without graphic watnon representations of the acts.
  The boys laugh and giggle while veiwing these things, I have to believe that this is a little bit "whistling in the cemetary" mixed with the fact that the "realistic" fictional violence that these kids see nowdays desenitzes them to appreciate the real horror of actuall violence.
  Long story short- some kids are so warped today that "real" images are just "another" image in their perspective.

  Western culture has changed in the last 50+years. People had to assist in killing large mammals to eat, people fouth wars up close and personal, with telling results. Folks like Stephen Crane and Walt Whitman were still able to connect with people and appeal to ther compassion that's within us by telling stories. "Alls Quiet on The Western Front" is another example of accurate non graphic (at least visually) narration that changes perspective.

  Cant' speak fo others but I know that my exposure to good literature , and the more "censored" war footage (for graphic content, not representation of the events) helps to shape my veiwpoint. There is a place to veiw these harsher images, especially to point out specifics in the educational process. I saw most of the Nazi stuff that Mr Moe is refering to at the college level. And it was appropriate for the points we were learning about. These images are not appropriate for general infromation and building veiwpoints at a 9th or 10th grade level.

  Yes Expatbrit, comparing graphic imagery to pornography as teaching tool is a good comparison. There are kinder and gentler ways to teach children the act of love. The mechanics of sex- yes there are appropriate visual materials to illustrate those acts. However, many with limited conciences (for lack of a less judgemental phrase) can take any of these images and satisfy their baser instincts with them. Porn for recreation- your business.... Suitable for youngsters as a "teaching" tool, Not in my opinion.

  Bottom line ----in todays society exposure to graphic historical images may only harden a child who hasnt had any "upbringing" and punishes children who probably woudl'nt become "axe murderers" anyway. I got to ask---why do you have to get a real combat vet drunk to get the real story? Same with a fireman or big city cop? My WW2 and "NAM relatives spared me of the" facts" till I was old enough to need to know em. Should'nt MRMOE expect the same from her school board?

  Cornwallis came up a little short---sour grapes Limey?;-).... My family has left several boys "on the continent" so that you can live free, and even come to the US if you choose to do so. NO thanks needed and I'll be happy to help ya'll in the future if called upon.

  Julie--recent history shows that most of MI migrated to Texas in 1975-1982 or so. The dreaded invasion of the "Black Taggers".
  That incursion seems to be the cause of the urban sprawl now found in the Houston area. Of course, during the Bush years oil and aerospace dried up in Texas and many of the Michganders returned to their home range.

  Being exiled to MI myself (unrelated to any Texas circumstances) I have noticed that the offspring of those folks has caused a great misrepresentation of the terms "cowboy" and "redneck" here in MI. A 4x pickup truck with the stars and bars occupied by race baiting crackers is neither representative of "cowboys" or "rednecks". A Garth Brooks CD and line dancing lessons dont quailfy folks for that either. (anybody know "Merle", "Johhny", "Lefty", or any of the "Opry" greats?) Also straw hats worn after labor day are a dead givaway. Acme and "dingo" boots show the "wanna-bes'" hand, too.

  By the way "hillbilly"--- has been defined as a Michigan bean farmer. Being a native Michigander , born of expatriated southern parents, with Oklahoma, Minnesota, and other southern and Great Plains connections in the gene pool. I figured Hillbilly was a good handle for me. Although I do rope , ride, sort cattle, buy and sell hay, own a pick up and stock trailer, since"Cowboy" was in use by an Oklahoman.

  I did consider "team roper", "spurs"," goat roper" and" sheepherder" as a handle but most of those terms could be construed as someone into green mowhawk haircuts or bondage by those in the general population.

  I've worked in law enforcement and industrial accident investigation. Take my work for it, there are "realities" that I would not wish on anyone. We dont show everything because it just IS NOT necessary to make the point. ('cept in court, and sometimes the judge will screen things if they are not germain)
  Got to ask---when was the last time you saw a ravaged human body up close before the mortuary worked on it----just what I thought. Ever been shot at? shot anybody?- just what I thought? Been on a fire call to collect a dead kid's body?-just what I thought.

  I'm always suspect about people who think they know the "reality" of violence and think we need to see more of it to" understand" it.

  the Irish were especially singled out by ol John Bull as a subhuman species. They did a scientific study and everyting to "prove it".

  Most of the "europeans" that settled the Mid west and west were brought here by the rail roads and given land to farm in an effort to build a market for the railroads services.

  Every group in every land has been abused by the next group up the pecking order. Dont make it right and I hope we can all get over it and move on. I find great nobility in the Mexicans myself and have enjoyed the hospitality of many --They help to make the PEOPLE of the soutwest as vibrant and resilant as they are today.

  Seems to me you may have a big dose of that "cradle to grave" liberalism that makes many of us live in the past, unwilling to forgive former injustices and move on in a spirit of acceptance and assimilation.

  You need to take a open minded look at Southern history as a whole also. Northern interlopers (carpetbaggers) did more to set race relations back in this country than anyone. Before you comment, has the KKK ever left a "calling card" on YOUR car? They have on mine I dont talk about making things better I'm a threat to those that live in a world of hate. Not a theorist baby- I've lived among the enemy.
