no parole hearing for alleged geoghan victim
by john ellement, globe staff, 1/14/2003
former boston man who alleges that sexual abuse by a pedophile priest indirectly led him to savagely murder an elderly roslindale woman in 1981 will remain in prison after the state parole board rejected his commutation request.
I'm glad I don't have to judge people and their hearts. If he really was driven to this horrible crime by the abuse he suffered at the hands of the priest, I think he'd be better served by getting psychological help rather than rotting in prison. But the cynic in me wonders if he's not trying to cash in on the scrutiny of the Catholic church's present pedophile scandals.
In prison he converted to JWs after being molested by a priest? Out of the fire, and into the frying pan, I guess.
Hmmm
i waited and waited for the dvd to come out for "signs".
i was so looking forward to it.
i had my feet propped up, a bowl of popcorn and bottle of soda.
I really liked M. Night Shyamalon's Unbreakable, and really, really liked Sixth Sense, so I wanted to see Signs right away. What a disappointment.
Spoilers ahead
Come on! Aliens that can travel untold light years through space, and can make their spaceships invisible(!) need physical directions carved in crops for navigation? They couldn't just float some signs in the sky, use geosynchronous satellites, or I don't know--steer by the stars; something lowly humans have been doing for eons?
And these aliens, again who can travel across the hazards of space, don't think to wear some form of protective suit, so that water--which covers 70% of this world's surface and falls frequently from the sky--doesn't kill them? If earthlings went to a planet with a breathable atmosphere but also sported showers of, say, hydrochloric acid, you think they wouldn't wear protective gear? If this is the smartest the galaxy has to offer, then they're in trouble once we reach other stars.
It seems that the studio wanted to reward Shyamalon for his earlier success, but wanted him to get something rolled out before the buzz quieted down... and he took a story he wrote in third grade and made it into a movie.
I will give him some credit for the characters he developed; there were some cute and touching moments in the film, but otherwise it was silly.

bee gee fans gather at hospital.
fans of the bee gees gathered outside the hospital where singer maurice gibb is being treated after suffering a heart attack.
What? Two pages of replies and no jokes about "[Not] Stayin' Alive"? You guys are slipping!
... don't worry, this is just for recreational purposes... anyone who has ever read a few of my posts will realise i am unlikely to 'go back' (the idea make me want to heave).. i had a few dubs turn up last year sometime, ... i live in holland, but am english, and my dutch isn't so good, so i asked them to send someone who could speak english round.. they sent round a wal-mart (well, the dutch equivalent) dressed pioneer couple, he dumb, she actually quite bright, but their english wasn't that good (they didn't even know what apostate meant).
in any case, as this was the first time i had some witnesses to myself since i'd left 9 years earlier (other than my family, but they don't count), i managed to speak for about 45 minutes before drawing breath, or really allowing them to talk, going from the un issue through blood to evolution to prophetic failure.
however, the language level was too low for us to really communicate well, and i was, er, i guess you could say, "getting it off my chest".... a few weeks ago another dub called round briefly, and i mentioned i was english, and lo and behold, last saturday, a pio from the local english speaking congregation came round.
I was talking with someone the other day about a similar situation. The most frustrating thing when the dub knows you were/are a dub is the premise that it is the "the truth." The phrases they fall back on are, "But where else are you going to go?" "But you know it's the Truth!" "They're just imperfect men." And the old stand-by, "Wait on Jehovah." Those things sound rather silly when talking to a non-dub; or at least they can't be said so dogmatically. But if you're fading away and are discussing your 'doubts', you can't strenuously deny these statements or point out the faulty reasoning, for fear of being labeled an apostate.
That being the case, I think I would force them to prove that their religion really is inspired by God. And none of this circular "we have the Truth because we correctly interpret the Bible; our interpretations of the Bible are correct because we have the Truth" nonsense. In light of their myriad false predictions, that would be a pretty tough thing to prove.
I would stay away from evolution for the time being. Just going from personal experience, that's a pretty big pill to swallow right away. I wasn't even ready to consider those questions until my faith in the GB had started to erode.
BTW, nice to see you posting again, Abaddon. Welcome back.
Hmmm
i need to get away from here before i get carried away, as usual.
i just wanted to post about "the gangs of new york".
w o w. i'm almost speechless.
I was thoroughly disapponted by GoNY. Too long, too melodramatic, too boring. Did I mention it was too long?
I saw an interview with Marty and Leo on the Today Show, and thought it was going to be this powerful, inspiring story of "the hands that built America." The only people that would be inspired by this story are cutlery salesmen and hack screenplay writers.
DiCaprio and Diaz had no chemistry together. I did enjoy Day-Lewis' performance, however.
Hmmm
a sister arrives home early to find her husband in bed having sex with a woman unknown to her.
the sister, although lacking any evidence, reports the matter to the elders, who confront the husband.
the husband denies any fornication.
Yrs,
You're seeing a Spanish matador named Fernando? I had no idea!
U_R It sounds like the letter-writing thing worked for you (whatever parts of that hypothetical applied to you) and for that I'm glad. I used to listen with curiosity (and a little typical JW superiority) to tales of young JW couples trapped in horrible marriages, but unable to free themselves because of silly, unfathomable, archaic rules. I remember a brother in his 40s at a neighboring hall. He did not have a lot going for him, but was obviously madly in love with a sister there. The problem was that his ex-wife attended another congregation that met in the same hall. Neither of them were willing to commit adultery, so both of them were trapped, unable to remarry. They both might as well have worn a huge scarlet D on their clothes
However, I tend to agree with Minimus. In general, the elders will do what they want to do. If they like you, they'll believe you. Usually this gives the cheating man a huge advantage in the patriarchal/mysoginistic WTBTS.
this is bad.
soooo bad.. .
when i was kid, growing up outside seattle, i had the responsibility of taking care of the family yard.
Dogs hate being squirted in the face.
There's a joke in there somewhere... I'm sure of it... something about ex-girlfriends.
Hmmm
.
im a huge cowboy fan but i dont think they will make it to the super bowl, damn sure would love to be wrong.
ok here is who i think as of right now pittsburgh stealers and san francisco 49ers and god i hate them both, well thats my pick how about you?
[Vick is] one of the most if not the most amazing player in the game today.
Amen! I wondered if he would make the transition to the pros and discover that the faster defenses could negate his speed. Obviously not.
It was scarey to watch. GB looked like they could/would not commit to a defensive play until they knew what Vick was going to do... which meant he got 3 extra seconds for passing plays and 3 extra yards per run.
Speaking of defensive speed: Ashi, I don't see how SanFran can overcome Tampa Bay's speed on defense. Garcia is going to be harangued all day.
i discovered a major security flaw on the silentlambs website, i e-mailed bill about it, setup up a small demonstration, mind you i told no one else about this.
and the demonstration was benine, because this flaw could allow someone to forward the site to say porn sights.
i won't go into detail, but let's just say i could cause alot of havoc with it.
Ok, once again, for the people that can't comprehend...
Yes. I certainly agree that there is a communication problem. For example, you keep missing my questions: Why complain about this publically, and on a site other than silentlambs.org? Why not resolve this in a professional manner via email?
Whatever the case, my hat is off to you: You obviously have a lot of knowledge of scripting for one so young.
Hmmm
