but i don't write this for sympathy.
actually, i just thought you all would like to hear how i am doing, esp with a little space now between me and the borg.
(its been 3 years).
Your posts are always helpful to read. It's important to me to know that others have been through the same thing and survived. Thanks for your posts.
can anyone please tell me if there is a quote in the youth book(the old red one) that says something along the lines of "homosexuality is a learned behavior"?
i believe there was but don't have a copy of the book.
thanks if you can help..
Thank you very much, that is exactly the quote I was looking for. It's unbelievable that they would say such a stupid thing. And to say that masturbation could lead to being homosexual?!*% What in the world?

some years ago me and my wife we were visited by a relative and his wife (all jws...) ... it was few days after christmass...... upon arival they gave us nicely wraped gifts ..... we joked "wow how nice of you to get us christmass gifts...!".
they replied: well it is not for christmass, but we were with our inlaws recently, and they have this nice tradition of celebrating "happy day".
they held between christmass and new years eve ... you know, its good for kids, so when kids get back to school, they are not embarassed by not having any new presents... so we thought, its neat and decided to celebrate it as well ... how do you like the idea, it is not christmass, its just a substitute...????".
We had 'family day' or 'kids day'. It was fun and our kids really looked forward to it.
after reading the thread about strange field service experiences, i kept thinking about some of the strange stories.
when we would stop for break on a saturday morning:.
there was this brother and his wife who were uber-rightous about getting time in.
Those poor kids of his. They are probably all in therapy now.

77-82 do you value life as god does?
Good review! Reading this WTBS crap makes me sick to my stomach. Thank goodness i am no longer a part of this religion!!!
i see that there are many people on here who've left the jw's and are still christians...but i wonder what type?
non denominational?
has anyone changed to something completely different like hindu or buddhism?
None. I just don't think I could sit in a church/mosque/temple, etc any time soon. That may change one day. IF I did go to any church ceremony, it would be the Unitarians'. They seem to be the closest to how I am feeling about religion at this time.
does anyone know if the funeral talk outline has been changed from the one shown on doc bob's site (s-3 11/90).

thomas covenant.
I never realized there was a talk specifically for funerals. It's shameful to have only a few minutes spoken word about a person who has passed.
i think that some people deserve to be excommunicated, such as pedophiles.
but what about the tens of thousands of others that have their life wrenched out from under them by being disfellowshipped?.
and what about those that have a family member that died because of not receiving a blood transfusion?
I have a 16 y old son. There is NO way in the world that I would allow him to make a lifelong decision at such a young age. He's not old enough to vote, buy property or sign a legal document. Yet, when I was "13", I was baptised. Jesus was baptised at age 30. Now tat I am out, I don't miss the guilt, the doom and gloom attitude or any of the judgmental people associated with the religion.
