I cringe to think that at one time I would have refused a blood transfusion for my children. It makes me ill to think that I would have even thought for a second on whether or not to give them one if a medical emergency arrived.

Did you ever do something for this religion that now makes you shudder ?
by man in black inback in the early 80's right after i was married the main driving point i kept hearing at the meetings was "do more,,, pioneer ".. well being the young impressionable jw couple that we were, .
my wife is a speech therapist, so working pt was no problem, but i ended up working construction, cleaning carpets, and shoveling snow at all hours with the brothers, and i worked like a d*** fool at all hours.. funny how there was so much support for me to work with the witnesses, but once the decision was made work could be very iffy at times.. and the main thing that just causes me to cringe now is how so many of the witnesses in charge of the congregation thought that we did not need insurance, my wife had a policy with her school district, but my son and i did not.
granted medical expenses were not as bad then, but just the idea of thinking that we did not need it that god would watch over us just embarasses me to no end now.

What silly things have you been counselled on or simply been told off for?
by 3Mozzies inso what silly things have you been counselled on or simply been told off for?.
back in my early 20's, i had a pair of comfy old jeans that started to tear in about 3 places on the leg.
it was the fashion at the time so not only did they feel great to wear, they also looked 'in', not that i cared for that, but it was a bonus .

My sister Jay got counseled for wearing a shirt with an anchor on the front of it to the TMS. The sis told her that her shirt looked patriotic. Really? My sister Jay was about 12 years old at the time.
also, another sister told my mom she shouldn't buy Lucky Charms cereal.

Yes. I may not know them personally. Yet, I know from experience how they are feeling when they first post on here. It's a scary, confusing time for them.
And I know when I first posted, I appreciated more than words can say how wonderful everyone was. It really helped me see that I was going to be okay. I am so grateful to this day for this website and the people who post on it.

by mamalove ini am amazed at all of the dresses and skirts that i will never wear again.

QuestioningEverything
I have upgraded my wardrobe. Like you ladies, I no longer worry about skirt length's or splits. This is a funny topic because I just went through my closet last week and donated a ton of stuff to the Goodwill. It felt wonderful to get rid of those KH clothes. Good riddance!

WT Society's Sly Guilt & Fear Tactics on Young People in Nov.15th WT
by flipper inas many on this board are aware- the wt society is losing younger members in big numbers.
statistics show that 2 out of 3 jw's raised in the cult leave between the age of 18 to 35. so like they always do- if the wt society sees a " need " or " problem " arising they address it in wt study articles.
thus notice how manipulative the wt society uses fear, guilt, and put down type comments to intimidate young jehovah's witnesses in this wt study article in nov. 15th issue.. under the titled article " young ones - what will you do with your life ?

I have 3 teenage sons. I am so happy that they are experiencing a normal, fun teenage life. They play sports, go to school dances, go to parties at their friends houses. They have a normal healthy view of sex and masturbation. They are making plans for college after graduation.
It's a good life for them.
OH, and I forgot to add that they are able to enjoy birthday's, Christmas and Halloween! I'm trying to make up for the lost years and they love it!

I remember when Bill was on "dateline". It planted a seed of doubt in my mind about the JW's. But at the time, I wasn't ready to accept the truth about them.
