Our First Halloween
by Red Piller in(i grew up in the "truth".
) very risky, considering we are still active in the cong..... so we started at the first house and methodically walked up and down each driveway as worked along the street.. we were quickly over-taken by kids who were zig-zagging across lawns and doing houses in random order.
suddenly, it dawned on me.

I am so happy for you and your children!! Holidays are fun and really bring a family together(if you want them to). We started celebrating about 4 years ago and Halloween was the first one. I laugh about it now how nervous I felt and how new it was to us.
Enjoy them, they make for wonderful family memories.

Who (not what) is your guilty pleasure? (Controversial favorites)
by Terry inwe all have somebody we are crazy about that almost everybody can't stand.. if you mention their name your companions give you that "look" (ya know the one, like you just got caught picking your nose!).
i was thinking about this the other day.
i was truly curious if i'm mental or if everybody has a guilty pleasure list like i do.. i'm just going to assume we all do until you set me straight.. if you attach a photo and short explanation about why you like these pariahs it will be more meaningful.. .

Wack Job MIL Thinking Sandy is Another Sign of "THE END"
by LostGeneration ini live nowhere near the east coast, nor does my jw mother in law.
but according to my wife, mommy dearest thinks "sandy" is the latest sign that gawd almighty is about to bring about the end.. so i ask my lovely jw wife what she thinks, amazingly she says its probably just another storm, though it does look bad.
i tell her yes, i agree, and if there is anything we can do to help out, i am willing to help.

LOL--my mom-64yo- said it is 'jehovah directing the elements. But that mankind will blame it on climate change/global warming. OMG!! I can't believe the crap that the JW's believe sometimes.

About what one thing do you find yourself being a real SNOB?
by Terry inyou know, to fit in....to be a part of our own family or group and not be a total nerd or contrarian.. we hold our tongue.
we smile and nod.. but, then....there is at least one thing we just can't go along with because it is too important.. why?
because we are a total snob.

This person is also a big Steven Segal fan. How do I respect such a person?
LOL! Too funny. I am a snob about purses. Love my Coach, Dooney and Burke and Michael Kors. Wish I could afford Louis Vuitton and Prada..

What if you could just walk away? No DF'ing or Shunning?
by QuestioningEverything inif i could tell my mom and other family jw's that i wasn't going back, didn't believe it and wanted to move on with my life without worrying about being df'd or shunned, i'd do it in a heartbeat.. but, that is not the case.
wonder how many the wtbs would lose if they changed their policy on this?
how many of you would have left sooner if there were 'no strings attached' to the wt?.

A problem with my daughter
by DATA-DOG inshould i try to dissuade my daughter from being baptized?
she doesn't seem to be in hurry.
all her " friends " are already baptized, some since early childhood which is ridiculous in my opinion.

I would certainly discourage her from getting baptised. There will be a lot of pressure from her friends. How old is she?

Another benefit to being an ex-jw
by jeremiah18:5-10 inthis year my wife, kids and i are celebrating christmas and birthdays for the first time.
having been a born-in, i was raised to believe that these events were not only pagan in origin, but also self-promoting and greedy.
what i have learned as the year as progressed and as christmas gets closer is quite the opposite.. as it turns out, my wife and i never learned how to give gifts and to shop for other people, neither have my kids.

Christmas is great fun!! I celebrated for the first time as an adult in 2008. My boys were thrilled (15 and 10 at the time). We started our own Christmas traditions and make the day all about family.
Enjoy your new life with your family.

She sounds like a wonderful mom. You should send her a letter/card and put that in there. I'm sure she would appreciate hearing it.
