sad to say but within my old congregation.

there was ayoung brother whom wanted to be made up to a ministerial servant,doing everything right, .

out on the ministry /good at number 4 talks helping on all the quickbuilds etc.,helping old ladys.

The elders will look down their nose and feel justified he was never made an ms after the incident above.

You will never become an elder if you don't show you agree 100%, he had to kiss some brown spot to be appointed. Poor guy do you think he knows what he's in for?

i didn't go to the meeting today (again) and i felt dreadful.

If you were not going because you felt uneasy being at the meetings perhaps your instincts are telling you something. I believe most pressure from others to attend meetings is simply peer pressure, you are correct "they don't like it when your not there" and If I have to be here YOU should be there, mentality prevails. Many suffer at the thought of monotonous hours spent sitting and listening to the same thing over and over again. Don't let yourself down, you are the most important one to yourself, never forget that. The pain goes away eventually but the longer the lingering the longer the pain. You have probably been there for a while in body only and your heart and mind somewhere else. I used to think the hurtful things would go away and they only got worse. Lies to cover over things so elders can keep their positions of power will always be more important than you, it will not change. You may feel like a hypocrite but the whole WT organization is the worst kind of hypocritical mass of people have ever had to deal with.

So, enjoy your tizzy for now, if you can separate yourself at your own pace you might enjoy the ride.

Changing congregations, what did that solve?

well thats what they let us imagine, when we began our experience in that religion.

with time we saw that a couple of these brothers of sisters were not really the ones we would like to be friends with for all kinds of personal reasons.

The elders are instructed to positively send a letter of introduction for every congregation member that changes congregations. The information it contains can be positive or negative depending on your perspective. It certainly will set the mood of acceptance in the new congregation, first from the elders and their wives and children then by gossip and example on to the response from the rest of the members.

If there is anything the elders know of a personal nature you wish not to be passed on, ex: judicial matters with sexual overtones, apostate leanings they will assuredly be in that letter of introduction. The perceived attitude of all family members in reference to the supposed spirituality you may have and loyalty to the WT will also be mentioned. There will also be elements of control such as how they would like you to be conditioned and treated, although this is not always followed by the new body of elders.

From experience, a good way to avoid a letter following you is to not join another congregation, move and do not tell any one where you are going. This is not possible for many so a letter will go with you.

When all control from the WT is removed from your mind any letter or information they have on you becomes silly to have worried about. This is true freedom from a high control group.

When is it really over...................???

i am a newcomer to this site, and a curious one at that.. i have been dating a guy who was / is to some degree, a jw.

although he no longer attends meetings, and does not share jw's beliefs, he is active in other ways.

for example, he is active on this site; he spends a good deal of time referencing his past life as a jw; and, he gets very angry (but not towards me) every time he hears or thinks about the jw's.

I am in a similar position as you describe, my girlfriend has never been a JW and from what I've informed her she never will be. I try to explain cult life as best as possible to her, but it's hard to grasp if one is lucky enough to never have been involved.

Although I have never been a JW, nor will I ever fully understand the meaning and/or purpose of the JW beliefs, I have done some research and albeit unsubstantiated, I think it's a forum for people who may have had some difficult times, perhaps lonely, naive, and extremely vulnerable.

As for your description: "some difficult times, perhaps lonely, naive, and extremely vulnerable". Not many would like to admit these possibilities, think of battered wife syndrome they keep going back after some life threatening occurrences and many can't convince them otherwise and they wind up dead. JW's are much the same however some are raised in it and had no choice, I can't imagine how they get out but they do. Others , like myself, made a choice to join and a choice to leave. Some can run, some walk, some linger, how angry or happy one is at every part of that journey will be as different as snow flakes.

Good standing refers to , before God, doing what is expected and believing what you are doing. I'm not refering to other's perception of whether you are truly in good standing. You could be a murderer or a thief and no one may know about it. Before God, you are not in good standing.

Being born into the WT religion, do you think your perception of a god could be swayed into a certain mold after a lifetime of indoctrination? That could mean your original question is flawed. It should be, Do you believe in "my perception" of god or not.

"Good standing" in who's point of view or definition ?

The WT and all believing associates? You can deceive them for years and you know it.

The WT god Jehovah? Apparently this god can be deceived also, the WT has been doing it for years.

You? Apparently you can be deceived and be deceptive also.

So I'm saying, the WT organization thinks your in good standing or not, you think your in good standing or not where is your point of reference? My feeling is it should be from yourself, you should feel on your own and not from someone else's point of view. If your still in the religion to appease others it can't be a very fulfilling life.
