Casual students of ancient history often labor under the misconception that the cuneiform tablets (such as may have been used by Berossus) were always written at the same time or shortly after the events recorded on them. But, aside from the many cuneiform business documents that were truly contemporary, the Babylonian historical texts and even many astronomical texts often give evidence of being of a much later period. Thus, according to Assyriologist D. J. Wiseman, one portion of the so-called Babylonian Chronicle, covering the period from the rule of Nabu-nasir to Shamash-shum-u-kin (a period dated by secular historians as from 747-648 B.C.E.), is "a copy made in the twenty-second year of Darius [footnote says: I.e. 500/499 B.C. if Darius I] from an older and damaged text." (ChroniclesofChaldaeanKings, London, 1956, p. 1) So, not only was this writing separated from the events recorded on it by anywhere from 150 to 250 years but it was also a copy of a defective earlier document, perhaps an original, perhaps not. Of the Neo-Babylonian Chronicle texts, covering the period from Nabopolassar to Nabonidus, the same author states: "The Neo-Babylonian Chronicle texts are written in a small script of a type which does not of itself allow any precise dating but which can mean that they were written from any time almost contemporary with the events themselves to the end of the Achaemenid rule." This allows for the possibility that they were written as late as the close of the Persian Empire, which occurred in 331 B.C.E. some 200 years after the fall of Babylon. We have already seen that data, including numbers, can easily suffer change and even perversion at the hands of pagan scribes in the course of a few centuries. In view of all these factors it is certainly not wise to insist that the traditional figures for the reigns of the Neo-Babylonian kings be received as definite.

  Wow, strange E-bay auction

  material: appears to be gopher wood.

  description: i recently purchased a small parcel of land on mount ararat and found the remains of an old building or boat.

  it looks like there could have been several stories, over 135 meters long from what i can tell, and about 20 meters wide.

  I saw this on the history channel. They had photo's from space and they were wondering what it was. This land is protected and you cant go there right now. They received the permits that they needed to go there to examine it and they found out that it was just a rock formation.

  As a JW or Christian did you have a hard time explaining why God hasn't appeared in almost 2000 years?

  for the sake of less argument whether you're a believer or non-believer lets just for the moment say we can.

  take the bible as it is in current form at face value.. i'm just going to cite a few examples of bible stories of god appearing and if we had been alive back then it.

  shoulda been proof to all of his existence.. 1) leading the israelites out of egypt as a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire at night.. 2) the waters of the sea miracously parting and allowing the israelites to go thru on dry land.

  You can talk to god.

  Option 1 - Climb up to the highest mountian (lack of Oxygen), like they did in the bible when they talked to god.

  Option 2 - Dont eat or drink for 30 days (mind goes a little crazy)

  Option 3 - Just tell people that you talked to god (that is what they did in the bible), When the heavens opened up at Jesus babtism only John and Jesus were there, and even John had to ask Jesus if he was gods son after, because he must not of heard god very clearly.

  Option 4 - Try some magic mushrooms.

  Just try one of these options and you can talk to god anytime that you want.

  whats the best memorial you DID NOT attend?

  every body has a thread about r u attending the memorial or whats gon happen who's gon partake...what i want to know whats the best memorial that you missed or skipped?.

  for me it was the first memorial i missed.

  i stopped going to the hal in 04 but, got conned into going to the memorial in 05. in 06 i wasn't having any of it.

  Last year I missed my first one. This year I will miss my second.

  Last year my wife and I along with our 4 kids were driving from florida to wisconsin and my wife stopped in at a spanish speaking hall to see the memorial. I took my 2 year old son and I went to the gas station and bought a pack of smokes and $1 lottery ticket (did not win).

  The best memorial of my life.

  I have mine. I would sell it for the right price !! Ha Ha Ha.

  Our hall was broken into a few years back and they took the safe that was empty. They should have taken all the old watchtowers and sold them on ebay - they could have made $$$$$$$$.

  I have read most of the book. It is a little different then I expected. I think that he post on here. The base of the book is that the Jehovah in the bible is Satan.
