I was under the impression that the parents are Witnesses. I was watching Richard & Judy yesterday and just as I switched it on they were discussing this case and one of the women who they had on said 'But about the Jehovah's Witness thing' but then someone started speaking over her so nothing more was said. I can only find information on the net from news reports that describes them as 'commited christians' but this woman certainly mentioned something about them being dubs.

Good god, let the child die !
by Simon in.
a big story in the uk right now.. from the descriptions of the childs condition on the radio, where it was said she was in constant pain, i think it would be right to allow her to die.
she has zero chance of any kind of quality of life and prolonging this suffering is just inhuman.. if scientists were doing this to an animal, there would be complaints that it was cruel.. a sad story indeed, but sometimes the kindest thing is to let go .... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3701492.stm.

Diabetes
by CountryGuy inthere are two diseases that seem to "run" in my family: cancer and diabetes.
this morning my doctor told me that i now have diabetes.
this really isn't a surprise to me, i've been waiting for the shoe to drop so to speak.

My 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 2 weeks ago.
She wasn't (and hasn't been) ill at all, but I took her to see my GP because she had suddenly started bed wetting and it happened almost every night for 2 weeks and her bed would be soaked each time. I only took her to my GP at the advice of my health visitor, because she suggested 'ruling out' any medical reason and expected that it would probably be a stress related issue, perhaps due to the fact that I am expecting our third child in the summer.
So I took her to the GP, along with a urine sample and after he tested that and then did a quick blood test ( the pin prick type on her finger) he just told me straight out - she is diabetic. I was in total shock, there is no history of diabetes in my family or my partners family and it just seemed so out of the blue.
She was admitted to hospital that evening and was kept in over night while they did various tests on her and gave her her first insulin injection. She was so brave, she didn't complain once and took it all in her stride. They let us go home the following day, after I had been 'educated' and learnt a bit about diabetes and how to manage it and all the other factors that need to be taken into account. I also injected her for the first time. In all honesty, it wasn't as bad as I expected, straight away I developed the view that giving her injections keep her healthy and alive, and for all those people who say "I don't know how you can do it" well, how could I not do it?
Within 48 hours of the diagnosis, my daughter was doing her own blood tests and also occasionally will give herself her insulin jab. She has become very 'sugar aware' and questions everything I give her to eat. The other day she asked me if she would have diabetes forever. I told her that it was a possibility but we never know what those clever doctors will find out and what might be around the corner.
I have always been proud of her, as any mother would be, but these last couple of weeks, as difficult as they've been, has made me the proudest mum on earth and made me realise what a star my little girl is.

I always get mine from 7 day shop. http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/normal_search_result.php?PHPSESSID=&keywords=smartmedia&x=0&y=0 They provide great service, and because they are based in the channel islands you don't get the VAT charges. I had a faulty smartmedia card from them (which i later learnt wasn't actually faulty, it was my camera) and so I sent it back to them and had a replacement in less than a week.

i'm enchanted by their darling expressions, and different banter than we have in the us.

Speed cameras or no speed cameras, with the traffic round there, I don't think anyone stands much chance driving down Welford Road at anything other than about 10mph.

My Dad has been an elder for many many years and he is a good man. He was always there for me even when I got DF'd, and after I was reinstated I eventually drifted away and still now he is there for me. He accepts the fact that I am in a relationship but not married and have two children. He loves his grandchildren to bits and regularly takes them out for the day.
I read so many stories here about Elders from Hell and how plainly evil they can be. My dad has sat in on plenty of JC's and without knowing the specifics, he has told me that if there is any possible way to resolve a matter he will always do so without DF'ing anyone. When there have been problems in the congregation that he has been dealing with, he would return home in tears because he hated the whole JC thing and hates to see anyone upset.
I have spoken to him about plenty of issues, when the panorama programme was on he watched it and we talked about it for a long time. He said he would never let anyone go through the kind of suffering that those victims went through at the hands of the Elders. He is just as outraged by the whole thing as us ex-JW's.
But he is still an Elder and still believes that he has the 'Truth'. He talks about how he would deal with a situation and as much as I know he would do his very best for anyone that needed help, still he stays within an organisation that has ruined so many lives. I could understand it if he was a hardened JW, using denial instead of admitting there are problems in the organisation. But he knows there ARE problems, but he won't see the whole picture, he just tells me again and again how he personally deals with things as an Elder.
For those of you who have suffered at the hands of Elders, I wish you had been able to come to my Dad. As far as Elders go, he's the best of the best. But why won't he leave?
I used an example once with him. I said imagine you work for a huge multinational company. You are good at your job and are an honest and well liked worker. But one day you hear that the bosses of your company are corrupt and are involved in business practices that harm alot of people. As an employee you are not in any way involved in the shady goings on of your bosses, but as a moral person, would you want to continue working for a corrupt company?
His answer was that of course he wouldn't want to continue working for that company, but then added that it wasn't the same as being a JW. I just feel that his heart tells him one thing and his head another. Sometimes when we talk I really feel that I am getting somewhere with him, and that it is such a shame that the potential is there with him and he could be so much more than he is now because he still is tied by the organisation. i would love to make some real progress with him but i just don't know what more i can do.

Hmmm... for someone who doesn't watch BB, you just can't help talking about it can you Brummie? LOL Well I'm not proud, I have been watching it and I'm not (too) ashamed to admit it. The guy you were on about is Cameron, and he is one of the faves to win. I think he is a born-again christian, I know he goes to church regularly and his choice of book to take into the BB house was, of course, the bible. Probably not the NWT though lol. I quite like him actually, he has his strong moral standards but still can't help slagging off the others and then saying 'oops i shouldn't have said that!' quite funny really. Steph should NOT win under any circumstances because she is annoying and also a Brummie. Which of course is a positive thing - being a Brummie not being annoying, I mean. Oh I think I will shut up now!

If all else fails, maybe getting reinstated might be just the thing to get him out the borg for good. I can tell you it worked for me.
Think about it. You get D'fd, suddenly your life is turned upside down and you have nothing and no-one. Especially if all your family and friends are Dubs. So there you are, all alone in the big bad world and you decide you can't hack it and want to go scurrying back to Dub World because even though deep down you know you were as miserable as hell while you were there, at this point it looks like a better proposition than staying all alone on the outside.
So you go back, you spend X amount of months kissing ass and being ignored at all the meetings, but you know that it will all be worth it in the end and after all, it was probably your own attitude that was to blame last time and thats why you were miserable, because really being in the Borg is the happiest place to be, right?
Then finally, after months of soul destroying grovelling, they let you back in and you get reinstated. Hurrah!!! Now you can get on with being happy and enjoying the fine association with your 'real friends' in the truth, not like those pesky worldlings who want to get you hooked on heroin at the first available opportunity.
So for a very short while you are the happiest person around. You commited the crime and did the time now you can start again with a clean slate and everything is wonderful. Until you realise that it wasn't your fault that you were so unhappy before. The Bro's and Sis's really are the most arrogant folk to walk the earth. You didn't imagine it. The elders are just as petty and full of their own self importance as they were before you were D'fd. And as for all the bull$hit they spout at the meetings, that was real too.
So soon enough you become disillusioned. All those months you spent suffering while you were trying to get reinstated, for what? The same old life as before. The one that made you miserable.
You've had a taste of the outside world and didn't like it, but that was because you were suddenly thrown out there, you didn't give it time and instead had the classic knee jerk reaction and went back to dubland. But there was potential in that 'big bad world', in fact alot more potential than in Dubland.
So you bide your time, plan carefully and eventually make you exit from Dubland. This time for good.

Abaddon, I think you are over reacting slightly. I can't answer for Hamas but what he said was absolutely correct, I can't remember the last time I saw a black kid dressed in the way described, but I've certainly seen plenty of white kids. I would say it is alot more of a 'white' thing than a 'black' thing, in my area there is an art college and the vast majority of the kids there are white and a large percentage of them dress exactly like that. And by their attitudes I would describe alot of them as 'losers', they do seem to be stuck in the early 90's, and there are plenty of Nirvana t-shirts to be seen. I think to say that Hamas was being racist was a total overreaction and it doesn't really matter whether they are black, white, or turquoise, he was just pointing out that kids DO still dress like that in the UK and on the whole they tend to be white. Just an observation, not a judgement.
