for those who dont know, hearsay are a recently-manufactured pop group.
they were formed from the successful auditioners to a prime-time uk tv show popstars.
you know the general idea, five thousand hopefuls apply, there are regional auditions, regional finals, the cut to the final hundred, then the final fifty last ten, then the best 5 were chosen to be in the group 3 girls 2 boys.

Britboy, have you heard what the Pop Idol debut single is? It is a song from Westlife's last album called 'Evergreen'. So Gareth will have no problems LOL
William is okay, I can't deny that he's got a brilliant voice, but I want to 'mother' Gareth... I suppose its the sympathy element really. If he didn't have the stammer then I guess I wouldn't be so endeared to him.
I'm even going to miss Darius when he gets booted this week. I really need to get out more lol

i am a severly disabled adult who receives disability benefits.. i understand sometime ago the watchtower said in one of its magazine(probably watchtower)that a smaller pertentage(sic)of jws claimed the dole in france(this was, i believe during the problems with the french government)as opposed to a higher pertentage(sic)of roman catholic etc etc claiming the dole.. in view of what paul says in one of his letter`he that doesn't work, shall not eat' should jws be claiming the dole if they truly follow the bible.
discuss.. i believe a social security system should provide for the disabled and pensioners.
(i don't think the present uk social security system will survive in its present form with accelerting(sic)costs etc etc)
When I was a JW, there were alot of pioneers in my cong that worked part-time and so were eligable for housing benefit.
Personally I don't think this is right. Benefits are there for those in need, those that are disabled and are unable to work, those that have found themselves in dire financial circumstances and need benefits as a stop gap until they get on their feet, and also single parent familes etc..
But CHOOSING to work part time when you are quite capable of working full time and supporting yourself is not a justifiable reason to be given government handouts. In my humble opinion.

Logical, I actually agree with you to a degree. The idea sucks. Trying to make popstars out of a TV show. They become famous for being on TV, not for being popstars.
Hear'says recent decline in popularity have proved that the process doesn't work in the long term. I would be surprised if the Pop Idol winner is succesful for more that 12 months.
But, the TV show is entertaining! I am hooked on Pop Idol, not because I can't wait to go out and buy the single and album, but because it's entertaining TV. Once the show ends then so will my interest.

No one in the UK will give two hoots about Hear'say by February 9th when the winner of Pop Idol is revealed!
Give me Gareth Gates over those 'has beens' anyday! LOL ;)

a few days ago the license for glastonbury 2002 was granted.. for those that don't know, glastonbury is a music and art fesitval in the heart of the english countryside.
about 100,000 people, music from big names like rem and radiohead, all the way down to small folk bands (there are dozens of stages), including a dedicated world/jazz music stage, hundreds of stalls selling all sorts of food and trinkets, a circus, a comedy tent, a cinema tent, a whole section dedicated to alternative/green technologies (solar-powered internet cafe?
) and new age what-have-you... you camp in tents whilst you're there, and the only real downside is the toilets, unless it rains.... think of a well organised woodstock that gives huge amounts to charities.
Home&Dry: Missed PSB as reviewing another band for the Glasto Review, can't remember who, but I have to confess, I would have hardly been disappointed as thet are, well, just the PSB's.
*Tut Tut* Abaddon!! I don't know, people these days!!! You just don't know what you missed!

I would love to go this year but I have two conditions
1. I will only be going if the Pet Shop Boys perform again like they did in 2000. I couldn't make it then and was gutted. Did you see their performance, Abaddon?
2. I don't 'do' tents but I hear there are some nice B&B's close by with basic amenities like heat and hot water LOL
But if it meets my conditions this year, then I would be up for it!

firstly, hello from a newbie .
i was reading a thread a few days ago which got me thinking.
it was about everyones views on apostates before leaving the dubs.
Thanks everyone!
I also used to wonder what their purpose was, I honestly thought they were just weirdo's who were probably into devil worship and human sacrifices LOL
Ironically, I bet thats what most JW's still believe...

Firstly, hello from a newbie
I was reading a thread a few days ago which got me thinking. It was about everyones views on Apostates before leaving the dubs. Quite a few said they had been quite afraid of 'Apostates' and some only ever encountered them at Conventions.
So what I would like to ask is, does apostate picketing at conventions work? Do any of you do it or have done it in the past?
I guess my own theory is that it can sometimes do more harm than good. I know that in all my years of being a dub, because of what I was told, I was quite scared of these people that used to hang around outside stadiums with their leaflets and tambourines and stuff. That image stuck with me for many years and if it hadn't been for this forum then I still would have that image.
Maybe, by standing outside a stadium trying to give out leaflets can actually make JW's even MORE against apostates, it kind of creates a stereotypical visual image and maybe not a very positive one?
So for those of you that have done it, have you had any positive results from it? I am really curious to know! And I'm not for one minute condemning anyone that does it, I know that the vast majority of ex-dubs would like all those that they left behind to know the truth about the borg, but I'm just curious about the success rate of doing it that way.

if anyone can tell me how long it takes to be reinstated, i would greatly appreciate it.
years ago when i was a witness, it was determined by the individual's progress.
someone has relayed to me that it is now a mandatory minimum of 1 year.
Back in 1992, I was reinstated after 3 months of returning to the KH.
The reasons for the quickie reinstatement, I think, are:
1. I was only DF'd for 2 months before deciding to go back (I plead insanity on this decision)
2. I had an close relative who is an Elder. (Always useful)
3. I was always previously viewed as little miss perfect JW before I got DF'd
4. I did some MAJOR ass-kissing to the Elders. Every time they spoke to me I told them how much I was looking forward to participating in the FS again, answering at meetings etc.. All the things that would impress them.
5. I wrote the most grovelling letter in history when I requested reinstatement. I could have been a mass murderer and they would have let me back in on the contents of that letter!
Inevitably it was a wasted effort as I walked 2 years later never to return...
