6/15 WT- GB More Powerful than Worldwide Anointed- Don't Judge Partaking
by flipper inmore of the latest from the june 15th " witness only " watchtower.
under the article " the faithful steward and it's governing body " there were some very telling quotes which could indicate how the wt society is tightening the control of it's members - and trying to justify more partaking of the emblems at the memorial since the numbers partaking have gone up from about 8,000 to 10,000 since they no longer feel that the sealing of the anointed ended in 1935.. so first off, notice this quote indicating the importance of elevating the governing body over the rest of the anointed around the earth.
paragraph 16 it states , " are all these anointed ones throughout the earth part of a global network that is somehow involved in revealing new spiritual truths ?

So after the meeting yesterday we went for coffee, nice group. Two baptized more than 40 years, one baptized 20 years, one baptized 11 years, and one study that was invited.
Someone had picked up the 6/15 WT so I said, "Wow, what do you think about new light?" They said, "What new light?" I brought out how the Governing Body now is emphasizing they are in charge, not the anointed around the world. Before they said that the entire Faithful Slave brought the spiritual food. Some of them got kinda quiet, one sister said, "Well, I know some anointed that are strange, I don't think they were helping the brothers in NY." That part went OK. But when I said, "Because the number of anointed keeps on going up."
So one sister said, "No, the number is going down." I said you can check, its going up. Then another bro said, "Well, those are replacements." I told him that we had new light on the subject in the May 2007 WT.
NO ONE KNEW THE LATEST UNDERSTANDING. THEY ALL THOUGHT THE NEW ANOINTED ARE REPLACEMENTS. AND THEY ALL SAID THE NUMBER OF ANOINTED IS GOING DOWN.
When I tried to bring this out, one said, "Well, maybe not every year, but gradually its going down." I said, "No, gradually its going up." So they started to get NERVOUS. One of them got up quickly to use the restroom. Then another bro said, "Bonafide, what's the point?" I told I liked the new Watchtower. He said, "It sounds like you are criticizing the WT." I said no I wasnt, I was just talking about the new light. I had to change the subject, because suddenly everyone was so uncomfortable.
Sometimes I think I am helping the people in my Hall to think, and my friends in other Halls too, and other times I wonder if anything is getting through.
I like those comments by Flipper, though.

The Bethel parking garage for the GB and other Bethel heavies
by BonaFide inwhen i was in bethel, i lived for awhile in 119 columbia heights.
its one of the brownstones across the street from the 124 building.
it has no street level entrance.. anyway, underneath that building is a parking garage.

You know what, maybe you are right. The 119 building is brown, with the modern facade. The exit to that underground parking lot is around the corner, on Pineapple, I think.

Comparisons between todays Witnesses and those 40 years ago
by truthseeker inloyalty, devotion, hardcore, willing to lose jobs to attend friday of the district convention.
these were the witnesses who came into the truth or were born into it some 30-60 years ago.
they could reason from the scriptures and hold their own at the doors.. today, i see a large mass of witnesses who have been in some 10-15 years who really don't know much about their own faith, could not explain 1914, are unwilling to lose jobs and sleep over attending meetings and assemblies and live double lives.

I am old enough to remember 35 years ago. We would get up at 4 am to work in the cafeteria at Dodger Stadium. We loved it as kids.
I also remember the 1978 Victorious Faith assembly, where we carried those yellow bags and went out witnesses near Dodger Stadium. Thousands of Witnesses out preaching.
Everyone stayed at those Dodger stadium assemblies in the 70's until that final talk usually by brother Halvidjian, and we applauded like crazy for brother Franz's talks. They also used to announce how long the speakers had been in full-time service, usually 30+ years. We were amazed as kids.
When I went to pioneer school in the 80's, there was still a lot of zeal. Two brothers left their jobs to go to pio school. There was a special feeling, especially us younger ones that had "spiritual goals." I remember my family crying for joy when I got accepted to MTS later.
Now? Well, the assemblies are so much smaller. Few take notes, that I see. The talks? No more new light. We always had "new light" years ago.
At Special Assembly days, it seems as if the Bethel speaker is kind of desperate for people to stay "active" in the truth. That may be my impression, but we are no longer bragging like we used to years ago about having the truth. Its like, "hang in there as best you can."
The last new brother accepted to Bethel from our circuit was two years ago.

Almost all the cars are from that company called"Circuit Leasing" that leases them to the C.O.'s and D.O.'s. They are mostly Buick LaCrosses, I think. New one every two years.

When I was in Bethel, I lived for awhile in 119 Columbia Heights. Its one of the brownstones across the street from the 124 building. It has no street level entrance.
Anyway, UNDERNEATH that building is a parking garage. I was in there several times. The GB and some of the Bethel heavies have their cars in there. Bethelites wash the cars for them. Seems I remember 20-30 cars there.
Everyone else parks way down the hill, between the factory buildings and 25 Columbia Heights. Or you drive around like a crazy person looking for a parking spot for two hours.

Did you know JW's who worked in SALES?
by BonaFide inthe brothers and sisters that i knew that worked in sales did great in the congregation.
their presentations, their talks, their knowledge of all the publications, they were really on top of things.
those that worked in other fields sometimes really struggled at placing literature and in getting studies.. one brother in my hall used to have special sessions with those that wanted to improve their presentation.

Quirky1, so I would imagine you had no problem placing literature and getting studies?

One brother in my hall used to have special sessions with those that wanted to improve their presentation. He used a whiteboard and drew a triangle, demonstrating the Amway sales method. He claimed it worked for the WT and AW magazine as well. He was right.
So, what about your Hall? Did the Salesman brothers and sisters do better than others?

Accidental Instantaneous Sex
by rebel8 inthe litter-ature over the years has teachings that imply jehovah's special people are all on the verge of having unplanned sex on a moment's notice, with anyone, at any time.. you must have a chaperone if you are to be alone with someone of the opposite sex, even briefly.. this applies to people of any ages.
you could be a 99-year-old raisin whose flagpole hasn't risen since rutherford was living in beth sarim, but you still shouldn't be alone with a pimply 16-year-old shy obese virgin who still plays with barbie dolls.
she's a seductress!

I have served on a lot of judicial committees. Occasionaly there are situations where a brother and sister are alone, and something does happen sexually.
I did used to think as the Society says, that never be alone with a member of the opposite sex or you may be tempted and sin. When I was in Bethel they have a rule where you cannot be in a room with a member of the opposite sex unless the door is wide open.
But things do happen occasionally because Witnesses are repressed sexually. And when two JW's make "plans" with each other, whatever the reason, knowing they will be alone, that sometimes is an invite for some excitement.

Jerusalem destroyed 607 or 586/7?
by isaacaustin inlet's try this again...most of us are aware that all available evidence points to the time of jerusalem's destruction at the 586/7bc time frame.
overwhelming evidence includes astronomical phenomena, achaeological evidence, bank records, the bible itself.. some hold to 607bc, for obvious reasons- the implications it has.
thoughts on how this would effect the average witness if forced to conclude 607 is wrong?

Very, very interesting topic. I wish that my friends and family would at least look at this. Don't think they will for awhile though. I remember this one brother told me he was researching on the Internet for a talk on Daniel. He said only the Society used 607 B.C.E. Then a couple of months later I asked him about that, and he said, "I never said that."
