What can I say to JW's about Michael Jackson's life and death?
by BonaFide inas an active witness, i am still in association with witnesses in field service, meetings, and occasionally at get-togethers.
we usually go to eat at a restaurant after the sunday meeting.. so tomorrow i am sure we will be talking about michael jackson.
i live in southern california, and i know one sister in our usual group has met mj's mother, and is very supportive of her.

So, anyone have any good points or questions I could bring up? I have a couple of ideas but I would like some more.
Remember these are active Witnesses, so "Hey you guys, the WT Society ruined MJ's life" will not work, and it will get me in trouble. I am undercover.
Anyone have anything subtle that might work?

Do Not Say: "The Society Teaches"!
by compound complex inwt 1998 - 3/15 p.19 .... .
"in order to avoid misunderstandings, jehovahs witnesses try to be careful about how they express themselves.
instead of saying, "the society teaches," many witnesses prefer to use such expressions as, "the bible says" or, "i understand the bible to teach.

Since I am an active Witness, I always say, "The Society teaches...", because that emphasizes what is actually happening.

Have you ever been to FAMILY NIGHT at BETHEL?
by BonaFide infamily night is held once a year at bethel and all the branches.
when i was a missionary, every year both missionary homes in that country were invited to the branch office, and we had a dinner with the bethelites, and family night.
the bethelites did some singing and skits, and each missionary home was invited to submit something.

Family Night is held once a year at Bethel and all the Branches. When I was a missionary, every year both missionary homes in that country were invited to the Branch Office, and we had a dinner with the Bethelites, and Family Night. The Bethelites did some singing and skits, and each missionary home was invited to submit something. It was pretty ridiculous. A couple of the European missionaries had talent and sang or played an instrument, the rest of us did dumb skits, related to preaching or the missionary home.
I never went to Family Night at Brooklyn, I was too tired to go after work. I heard some are good, and some not that good. All of them have to pass a "committee" of brothers to weed out anything risque.
I heard about some of the performances on Family Night, singing, waiters on roller skates, swing dancing, piano playing. I heard that some Bethelites have real talent.
Anyone here been, or participated?

The Purpose Of The Preaching Work
by The-Borg injehovah is apparently allowing the preaching work to continue to save as many people as possible.
(that's what i was always told and read anyway.).
last time i checked population growth far outsrips the growth of jehovah's witnesses.

Every year Worldwide, 157,000,000 are born. 62,000,000 die. That means 94,000,000 growth
So, Witnesses have about 94 million more people to Witness to each year.

The "Why go to the Kingdom Hall" is an old story that you can find on other churches websites with "church" instead of Kingdom Hall.

Ruddy, I am happy for you, but at this point I can't see my family and friends as "the small stuff" as you wrote. And I can't see losing my family as "what the hell" either.
I could be wrong, but I don't think many other posters on here think that family and friends are the "small stuff."
Family and friends are "the big stuff" for me.
However, it may come to that, and Narkissos' post and your post and some others are making me think. At this point, I do lead a dual existence.
I wonder what my life will be like in a year. I guess I might find out sooner if I am outed.
Thanks everyone, for your very thoughtful posts.

No, I didn't want a Birthday party or Christmas. I have a brother and sisters, so my mom did treasure hunts for us a couple times a year. We had maps and everything. Cool gifts.
I was interviewed a bunch of times on the meetings and assemblies because I used to say how I didn't miss the holidays or birthdays.
Of course, my mom made sure I had gifts and parties, others just let their kids go without.
