  does anyone remember being a little kid and being forced to sit through those 2 hour meetings?

  specifically being made to listen to graphic accounts of whatever country that was going through horrific persecution.

  "My Book of Bible Stories" is heavily engrained in most of my earliest memories. I remember the picture of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah with Lot's wife turned into a pillar of salt, and the picture of the destruction of Jerusalem. The picture of Jezebel. What horrible pictures to show little children. That, and all the pictures of Jesus make him look like some sort of child molester. Especially in the story about how Jesus likes little children. All the pictures in that book were absolutely awful from a psychological standpoint. And from an artistic standpoint.

  I always felt so ashamed to be a Witness. Even as a small child, I felt like it was a dirty little secret that I couldn't tell my schoolmates.

  here is how i would like to get df'd.

  during the service meeting of cource the announcement would be made.

  i would like to walk in the meeting during the song (preferably..."then they will know") leading up to the the announcements and walk to my seat in the front of the kingdom hall dressed as darth vader.

  What exactly did everyone take notes about? Maybe they were just doodling? I haven't been since I was in my early teens, so I didn't take notes, but it never really seemed like there was that much material that was very different than any other WT publication. The only parts I enjoyed were the intermissions (of which there were not enough). As I recall, the food wasn't too bad, or good. The only thing I really remember about the assemblies is that they had fresh cherries. This was all in the early - mid 80's.

  What is this "Gate F" stuff all about? It sounds noteworthy.

  What is YOUR bible of choice?

  although i'm pretty much an atheist, i still like reading the bible.

  it's an amazing literary masterwork to say the least.. my question is, after discovering that the new world translation of the wts was poorly translated and altered in ways designed to support their various peculiar doctrines (see john 1:1, etc.

  ), what bible translation are you all the most fond of?.

  I like the KJV because I think the language is so much more beautiful than the others--as far as understandability goes, I'm kind of an Old English lover. I'm no expert in the matter, but one thing I do really like about the KJV is that it is easy to tell when the 2nd person plural pronoun ye, meaning "you all", is being used, which modern English doesn't have an equivalent for. I know that some translations use "YOU" in small caps instead, but this seems to be inconsistent. As someone earlier in this thread commented, one bible scholar said there are probably less biases in the KJV translation than in most modern ones, because there were less influences from existing religions, and previously translated bibles, in the time period in which it was translated.

  How much of a role in Brainwashing did the songs actually play?

  those haunting words...those out of tune dubs...wailing...moanin...then i wake up :p lol i am kidding, but i remember 'snippets' of a lot of songs, all of which focused on me being submissive (for example song number 8, my favourite as a child dub).

  The main thing I've learned from listening to Jehovah's Witnesses sing in large groups is that large groups of Jehovah's Witnesses can not sing for sh*t!

  I think by singing to the awful but rather strangely hypnotic Kingdom Songs, you don't really think about what you are saying, but the words are nevertheless driven into your head. And there they sit and putrify. I too have remembered them after not hearing them for 15 years.

  Actually I came by an old "Sing Praises to Jehovah" songbook the other day, and am working on programming song 13, the official dunking song, into my midi sequencing program, adding some drum loops and some other effects, possibly with death metal/gangsta rap/polka influences. I'll keep you updated on the progress. I just started tonight, and am making good progress so far.

  Deputy Dog, are you sure this is really the NWT? I didn't look at them in depth--They do seem identical in Genesis, but compare these notorious quotes. And I know these particular verses haven't changed since 1984. Is the e-sword file perhaps an older NWT?
