Lady Zombie is right, look around and see how other religions treat each other, explore other things. The more we learn the more we realize we don't know.
Lady Zombie, I'm sure you've gone through a lot to get to where you are today. And I guess I agree with you in a way. I don't think anyone can come to believe in God by reading the bible. The bible only tells you about him, much like any story book tells you about the main character. This in itself does not inspire belief, I don't see how it could.

yeah, I'd agree with avoiding a pedohpile and stuff like that, but since the elders cover most of that up, you never know who your talking to.
In regards to 16 year old pics, well yeah, that's not cool, but legal in the UK... Elizabeth Hurley was naked in a movie at 16. I'm not supporting it, but I am saying you should avoid manipulation by goverment as well as JW.

As someone else said,, the shunning. I think I have a big heart, and it didn't make sense to me.
Especially, since as a young boy, I stayed with my Grand Parents a lot, and my mom was DF. Parents divorced. I didn't get to see her very often, and she would come to the hall, and I wasn't supposed to talk to my own mother that I missed so much. As a young boy I knew this was wrong, and never stood by it. As I grew older, I made a point of being kind to these people right in the hall.

funyderek has some great comments there.
Especially his point that JW's practice the memorial on the same day, so why wouldn't you do holidays on the same day? Plus holidays are to be special, so they need time to plan, the same concept applies to memorial day, if it was at a random point in time always, it wouldn't be near effective. it's just common sense at work, not manipulation.
When holding a debate with anyone, always plan for it in advance, and stick to one subject, do not allow subject changes.
Subject changes are destructive to the debate, and cause people to feel like they are being beaten up on many issues since most likely no conclusions will be drawn.

Car mpg performance. Can anyone explain this?
by coffee_black ini have a 2001 saturn sl1.
it has just hit 200,000 miles.
(almost all job related) i get 37 mpg on the highway.

Yeah, MPG is not a simple issue when it comes to cars, a lot of the design of the car goes into, as others have stated.
For instance, I have a 2006 GTO which is a 6.0L V8, and I now get 24mpg out of it. And I even modified it to the point that it puts out 525 rwhp using 60lb injectors. While many v6 and quite a few 4 cyclinders don't get the gas mileage I do. Go figure.
Don't believe the conspiracy theories on MPG, it's all about supply and demand, and what's making money. Gas prices have gone up faster then vehicle makers can develop new cars to handle the shift in consumer demand. Before these gas prices, Americans wanted SUV's, because we didn't care about gas mileage. For the car maker, the money wasn't in gas mileage, it was in big luxuary. Now times are changing, and it will take 3-5 years for most manufacturers to change their lines. In the meantime they are suffering dramatic profit losses. If the car manufacturers and oil companies were in bed together before, they surely aren't now, because the Oil companies are slitting car manufactuers throat.
Lots of good mpg fuel solutions out there, just look around, and don't depend on big business to be the only people with solutions.

unrealistic service attire requirements
by Solace1998 inone thing that always got me upset -- .
sisters wearing pantyhose all year round?
brothers or sisters frowned upon for wearing snowpants whilst going outside in snowstorms or incidences of high snow (quite often in the mountains of pa) .

Actually everything your required to wear as appropriate attire is merely fashion of the 20th and 21st century..... definately no biblical relevance in a tie.

I'm pretty sure it's scheluded to be at the abstract time of Tommorrow. So whatever time it is right now, it's 24 hours from now, and when you get to 24 hours from now, figure out when tommorrow is, and that's when it's going to happen.

Do you believe that a woman has to be married to be happy?
by MsMcDucket ini'm just wondering because i was raised to believe that a woman should get married and have children.
i think that this is an out-dated philosophy and that girls shouldn't be taught that they have to be in a marriage to be complete.
please, discuss.

interesting, information. Our society is definately changing, people don't place as much value on marriage obviously, but for some reason they enter into it.
I think it's all about how you were brought up really, a kid from a stable home could take the whole situation for granted, and not be a good mate. Where a kid from a divorced hom could hate the situation and end up being a good mate. Or visa versa.
And then a person with good values marries a person with poor values, one wants to save the marriage, the other could care less. Go figure.
maybe nobody should get married till they are like 70 haha.

Matt, I did it by throwing out everything I believed, and I started with the question. Do i believe in God, and if so Why? What people told me, and what they said wasn't enough.
Then once I decided I was sure that I believed in God, I threw out all the doctrine that I was taught, and went to look for my own answers. I decided that God was love, and we are not to judge others like the JW do. And above all, I put a lot of faith in the fruitages of the spirit, because I found them to be good qualities in a person. With those few things I had everything I needed, and realized that a lof of what JW do is directly the opposite of this
