the library I pass on the way to work is always very busy. I don't understand why either? Maybe I should go in there and see what all the hubbub is about.

Attention Book Lovers!!!!!!!
by whyamihere inok, i am on my 8th book this month - not too bad for this mommy.
anyway, i've gotten back to my previous life of indulging myself into books that you can't put down.
little children by tom perrotta.. excellently portrayed 2 unhappily married suburbans who's repetitive wrong choices impact a their dull lives, yet alter your own moral thinking of them being heroic in their quest to find happiness with a self imprisoned/trapped marriage they each lead.

It's one of THOSE days
by Nosferatu ini just need somewhere to bitch.
i usually bitch with other people at work, but they have lots of meetings going on today, so i'm stuck muttering to myself.
got an email this morning that we're finally getting our review and raises next week.

haha awesome.
Yeah, same boat with the raise thing...well not same boat, still sinking here. No raise in Jan, oh wait apr, oh wait, ummm we'll get back with ya hehe.
I had a pointless interview last week, the job description asked for a bunch of skills I didn't have. Granted I had like 80% of them, but the 20% I didn't have seemed important. Yes they still wanted me to come in for an interview. I guess maybe they just wanted their boss to see they were trying hehe.

Wanting to talk to my mom
by lostsheep82 inso now that i've read as much as i could in the last 2 months and made my decision that this isn't the organization i thought it was, i'm scared, terrified, and feel helpless in some ways.
my mom is a devout jw, a pioneer, her husband of the 'anointed', and they are very 'spiritually strong'.
i'm wanting to compile a mini book to send to her with all the reasons and proof from wt books and magazines with quotes and stuff.

First suggestion is to make sure you've got yourself 100% figured out. After that you can concern yourself with the opinions of others.
Keep in mind, that while you may write out all your reasoning, this is just going to give them something to analyze and potentially justify their belief that your wrong. So if you write something to them, be prepared for it to have any number of effects, from very good to very bad.
I personally don't try to debate with JW's on doctrine, that is where they shine. I usually like to debate with them on moral issues. Concepts of kindness and goodness that aren't being shown by the "organization".

I've read some pretty good ones lately in different categories.
Sci-Fi
"The Praxis" by Walter Williams
Really cool trilogy that is set in the super distant future, some alien race conquored all the intelligent species of the galaxy, got bored with being an immortal super race and just killed themselves off. Now all the species, humans included, gotta figure out how to rule in their absence.
99% Non-Fiction
"102 Minutes" by Jim Dwyer and Kevin Flynn
This is story of the 102 minutes of the World Trade center incident. Basically the period of time from the first plane hit to the last tower falling. It has nothing to do with consipiracy theories. The book is basically tries to go chronologically through what was happening in the towers. It pieces together 911 calls, survivor stories, police / fire communications and so on to tell the story as best they can of what happened. Basically a story about the people inside.
Fantasy
"Song of Fire and Ice" by George R.R. Martin
An unfiniiished series, currently at 4 books. The story is so good, that at times you'll be so mad you might throw the book at the wall. One of the few authors I've ever read, that tells a no BS story. The good guys don't always win.

Science and Truth
by LockedChaos into quote:.
people believe things which can be measured are true things,.
and things that cannot be measured are untrue things.. science is what people point to as a "truth", yet science itself .

actuallly, when you really think about it. While science find answers, it just uncovers more questions.
Lots of people live in a fairy tale world where they think we've figured most stuff out. The reality is, we've only begun to figure out that there is a whole lot we don't know.

Dealing with my girlfriend's family.
by Dune ini've been with my girlfriend for about 4 months and she has a big family who are always around.
they are nice people, and i get along with them fine.
they now want to meet my family and have even given an ultimatum that if they don't meet a family member within a month, they'll 'make' her break up with me.
-
Blasty
Well, I'd be mad first of all. But does your girlfriend support this ultimatium crap? I'd imagine she'd be pretty pissed at her family for stepping in like that.
But hey, if you want to be around this family, you need to let them know who you are on no uncertain terms. Tell them "I'm dating your daughter, not my family". If you don't deal with your family very often, let them know. "Hey, me and my family aren't on the greatest terms."
Until I met my wife, my family didn't like a single girl I went out with hehe. She may have that type of family too hehe.

Saw my dad last night...
by tall penguin ina few weeks ago i had a conversation with my mother (still a jw).
she told me that one of my fave elders, who was disfellowshipped a few months before i disassociated three years ago, just got reinstated.
now, to know my mother is to know that she doesn't give you information unless she has an underlying motive.

You know what Tall_Penguin, I read your account, and It makes me wonder where I'll be as a parent when my kids are out on their own.
I think I was about 8 when I realized my parents aren't very good parents at all. Which isn't something a kid at 8 should end up concluding, but I'm 30 now, and I realize, they really sucked. My grandparents raised me mostly, and they did good, and surely earned more of my love then my parents.
But the hard part is, as a child to parent relationship, I never realized a strong unconditonal love for any of them. I love my grandparents dearly, but not even in the ballpark of my Parent to child relationship I have for my children. So I guess I wonder if I'll be able to control myself when I'm older, and not intervene in their lives. My children are 5 and 3 now....so I have plenty of time heh, but it still makes me wonder.
How hard will it be to let go, and let them lead their own lives? Hopefully I at least won't be subversive or manipulative.

Are You a Glass Half Full Type Person ? Optimist or Pessimist ?
by flipper inwe've all heard the cliches .
" when the going get's tough, the tough get going .
" etc., etc., ...... " better to have loved and lost .... than never loved at all.

85% of the time, I'm a glass half full person. I always think everything will work out in the end.
But I do hear myself sometimes refer to a situation as a guaranteed 'fak over" situation. Which isn't very half full of me at all hehe.
