Congratulations on both! My anniversary and birthday are on the same day too. And we've been financially where you are too...it's really hard, but it WILL get better. We've had lots of ups and downs in 33 years. Presents are nice, but the best thing is that you have each other. Do something enjoyable that doesn't cost any money to mark the day, and cherish each other and your family members that love you. Try not to let what you've lost take anything away from what you have!

Hypocricy of JW stance on shunning those disfellowshipped from the congregation?
by corpusdei ini was doing some research on an tangentally related topic when i came across this gem, from the 7/1/1986 watchtower, in a paragraph discussing the cost of integrity:.
certainly when a person becomes a christian witness of jehovah, he suddenly finds out who are his true friends.
some will perhaps shun or boycott him because he has abandoned his former religion, even though they themselves do not practice any religion properly.

Certainly when a person becomes a Christian witness of Jehovah, he suddenly finds out who are his true friends.
In actuality, when a person becomes a witness, they are strongly encouraged to give up all their former friends and associates. They're not even supposed to keep those that prove to be true friends by being willing to accept their new beliefs. The teaching is that no one is fit for friendship except other witnesses. So it's very hypocritical to bring up the shunning and boycotting that friends might do, when this is exactly what the WTS expects it's new converts to do to their friends.

Same with a woman being raped. She would no longer be desireable as a wife and her life and livelihood would be ruined. So to assure she had security, the rapist had to marry the woman, thus taking care of her. So the "intent" of the law was so that the woman's future was not ruined by the rapist.
Oh yeah....I'd feel real secure being married to a rapist. I just know he'd take good care of me! And we'll live happily ever after! My future is saved! -

Why do I no longer get attacked and persecuted by the demons, since I left JW,s ?
by pedal power inmost jw.s really believe that they ( as we once did ) are promoting gods will, but what if they really are ?
is it possible that god is supporting them even though they (governing body ) lie, because most jw,s are ignorant of the lies told on their behalf, ?.
when i was a jw i got attacked by the demons bigtime, but not now, and i can only assume that they (demons ) are happy that i am no longer a jw and are now leaving me alone, cant think of any other reason, has god ever supported a group who were similarly found wanting ?.

Pedal's question seems like it may be influenced by this bit of reasoning that witnesses love: witnesses have more trials, tribulations and persecutions than anyone else, because satan is working overtime trying to get them to give up. When one does give up and their life doesn't go to hell in a hand basket, or perhaps even significantly improves, it's because the devil doesn't have to work on them any more, so they're free from his attacks. This is superstitious and faulty logic, as many of the posters here have pointed out.

Found Sheep, it would be very difficult to chalk up your experience in service to a hallucination. If it was, the other sister was hallucinating the same thing at the same time. As interesting as the question is about why these kinds of events happen at certain times and not others, it's also curious that they seem to plague some people, while others, even with the same belief system, never experience them at all.

In general, what is the ethically correct response if a minor tells you someone is molesting him/her?
by InterestedOne ini was thinking about what the elders are trained to do versus what i personally would do if a minor confided in me that someone was molesting him/her.
i'm not sure what the ethically correct first response should be.
my first thought is to contact some kind of law enforcement that specializes in investigating situations like this with people experienced in getting to the truth of the matter.

"There is a semblance of justice in this world, but you have to know that this isn't true justice at all. It may make one feel good that an individual has been "put away," so to speak, for 20 years or so for such criminal offenses, but you know as well as I that the harm done to such children cannot be undone, so for true justice, we will all have to wait for the Millennial Reign of Jesus Christ."
I care far less about "justice" and "vengeance" than I do about prevention. You rate putting a molester in prison for 20 years as a mere "feel good" experience that in the grand scheme of things doesn't matter one whit. I believe that providing an entire generation of little ones the opportunity to grow up with one less molester in the neighborhood is a very good thing to do, even while "waiting for the Millennial Reign of Jesus Christ." Since, as you mentioned, God is not intervening in such matters today, the protection of children is in the hands of every caring adult. Jehovah is big enough to take care of himself and his own name. Children are not. A system that is set up so that two lambs MUST be sacrificed before action is taken to protect rest of the flock is a blot on the name of the God they claim to represent. An institution that requires children and adults to mix together in frequent and close association, needs to have regular and frank discussions of the dangers that can lurk in any such group, including and ESPECIALLY their own. Convention delegates are warned not to leave unattended purses or other items of value at their seats, because unscrupulous ones frequent such large gatherings and take advantage of their trusting brotherhood. That message could easily be brought down to a congregational level regarding the behaviors of unscrupulous ones who would rob our children of their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
You've made it clear that you and your children do not need those of our "ilk" making suggestions for improvement regarding the prevention of sexual abuse in your ranks. We don't really mind your resistance....it won't change our commitment to protect our own and, yes, even your own children.
