Sure it will go down.
It's definetly a question of when not if. Everything breaks down over time and lets face it what happened in New York
with the power grid was just a small sample of what is on the horizon.
But when it goes down it won't be for too long a time. They know the computers in the power stations and sub stations
are for the most part well out dated and they can't just shut them all off and do an upgrade. So they're making do with
whats there for now. They have back up plans in place to have some ready to swap out for when it does happen but
even the best laid plans have their unforeseen occurences as well as equipment that can and does go ka-plooey soon
as its plugged into the system.
I saw a special on the hoover dam a while back on PBS showing how outdated the electrical and computer systems
was in it and how so many other power plants are in the same shape whether they be hydro, coal, nuclear etc.
Add to this the increasing number of people moving in and being born and thats a tremendous strain on an already
over taxed grid. Energy will be our number 2 main concern in next few years right behind number 1 which will be our
trying to maintain suitable drinking water for the increasing masses.
