OTWO, I love how you put that! My "true" friend sometimes thinks that all friend do everything for each other, but I've had to put limits on that to avoid feeling taken advantage of. Between us, I am not the friend who drops everything to give her companionship whenever she asks, nor do I drop everything to avoid her some inconvenience. I don't drop everything to paint her house for free just so she saves some money. I kinda make her tough some things out ... if I didn't, she'd never learn how strong she is. She STILL appreciates me as a true friend, though, because I support her through both good and bad decisions. I will tell her what I think, I will give her advice, but if she doesn't follow it I will not judge her. She turns to me for wisdom and to help her see the other sides of things she's too emotionally involved in to see. And in return, she does the same for me.
I *will* drop everything to get her to the airport when her car suddenly breaks down. I *will* donate my material possessions to her in times of need. I *will* share my time with her when she's feeling low. I guess with this particular friend, part of the real friendship is helping her to see that she doesn't need to turn to other people for support all the time. She's learning a lot about herself, and growing and maturing. :D

What's Your View of "Friends"? Are They "Real"???
by minimus inthe older i get, the more i see that most "friends" are not "real friends".
i can count on 1 hand who i consider friends.
i have many enjoyable aquaintances that i socialize with but i doubt they'd really be "there" for you.

It was when I experienced pure unconditional friendship from a worldly person who saw me at my worst and still accepted me for who I was, that it hit me between the eyes that I had never had this before in my life.
I have another friend who will always be there for me. She doesn't always agree with me and I don't always appreciate her, but in the big picture as time goes on I realize how loyal she is and what a real friend she is to me.
It's our differences that drive the point home how real of a friend she is. -

I learned a long time ago not to expose myself too much on the internet.
But I'm hardly quiet, otherwise. I Just don't tell personal details. Lots of personal thoughts and opinions though! I think you'll get to know me through my posts. I'm a critical thinker and quite logical, rational and calm. -

Do JW's assist "worldy" people after natural disasters such as Katrina?
by gaiagirl inwhen new orleans was flooded, did jw's in the area or from out of town gather to help those who were not jw's?
or were there efforts focused only on kingdom halls and the homes of jw's?

I'm not trying to be trivial, but in my experience, "rendering help to neighbors" seems to mean, "I have a chain saw and have finished my work in the JW yard, here let me help you get these big pieces cut in your neighbor's yard."
As far as coming in with a building crew and actually rebuilding a whole worldly person's house, or giving resources indiscriminately to whoever shows up first regardless of religion, not so much, unless a worldly person seeks them out and specifically asks.
I don't have a whole lot of experience outside of local storm cleanup, but in that experience things were organized around JW needs FIRST. -

My brain worked yesterday at the WT study
by BonaFide inso paragraph 11-13 yesterday discussed how lepers in jesus' day were outcasts.
they were required to call out "leper, leper" so people would stay away from them.
the next paragraph says that according to rabbinical sources, a religious leader even threw rocks at a leper to keep him away.

I thought you were going to say that, following Jesus' example, this is why we should be kind and loving and reach out to the "spiritually sick" who are forced to call out "Disfellowshipped!" "Disassociated!" wherever they go.

Do ex-jws and anti-jw's born-agains hurt their case when they make up thing
by booker-t ini am the first person to say jw's should be exposed for the flip flops in doctrine, the united nation scandal, the pedophillia cases, and all of the things that they have said and did since charles taze russell started this religion.
but at the same time it makes me angry when i hear or read some things that ex-jw's and apostates print up about jw's.
tell the truth and the truth will set you free jesus christ admonished his disciples and i totally agree.

In order to make a good case against them, you can't use anything misleading yourself.
For the most part, much of the information I read here is just pointing out contradictions, which is good. What I *dont* like is when things to prove them wrong are taken out of context just like they do. I'm extremely sensitive to the tactics, so I question what I read here just as much as I question what I read there. So exaggerations, personal gripes, etc., while I understand their motivation, actually weaken the honest argument. -

Let's predict the next 10 years of "noolite"
by Awakened at Gilead inthe past 15 years or so have seen incredible "advances" in the new light agenda of the wts.. there have been changes in the generation (twice!
), sheep and goats, celestial phenomena, opening up the way to heaven (closed since 1935), the "composite sign", "blood fractions", along with major organizational changes, such as paperbacks, once monthly awake!
's, cult edition of the wt, along with the reduction of the meeting nights and change to the po nomenclature becoming the coboe (ssdd).... some of these changes have been foreseen by posters here on jwd, or were suggested by information in apostates recomended reading lists (i.e.

<quote>Another change to the blood transfusion policy due to pressure from lawmakers, which I am hoping will lead to the largest exodus we have seen thus far in JW land</quote>
I think if legal court cases require a change in "official" policy, they will cry "persecution!" and say that "to obey the law of the land means we cant' tell you not to have a transfusion, but each JW needs to individually examine the bible along with his heart and see that the bible doesn't change, and we still need to obey god's law."
So they will wash their hands of the matter "officially", and no longer be involved in advice, etc., but throw it upon the individual to privately comply (and without any support). Then, when people do take a transfusion, they will be viewed as "weak" and shaky in their faith, and there will be unwritten social sanctions against them.
But when questioned legally, the WTS will say, "it was their own choice!" -

WT backtracking fast on Book Study -High Gas Prices
by stillajwexelder inso tonight the congregation discussed the front page of the october km -the new meeting schedule.
straight away it was emphasized it was not because of high gas prices that the meetings were being reduced.
it was pointed out that in parts of the world the brothers do not have cars so it was not high gas prices.

and heck, in the future they can just study a NEWSLETTER if they want. (oh wait, that's the WT study and Service Meeting.) OR, how about taking the #4 talk and assigning it to everybody to research, and discuss that? Totally no book at all! Thus the change in name from book study to bible study.
But, I don't really see that so much, as there'd be too much room for thought and discussion. I see the information being so dumbed down that the WT could publish a few paragraphs, print a couple of dumb obvious questions at the bottom, limit comments to 30 seconds each, and be able to completely stifle thought and discussion.
Really, thinking back, the only two meetings we really got ANYTHING new out of was the Book Study and the WT study. Public talks were really basic summaries of world events and common scriptures, Service Meeting was just a sales meeting, and the Ministry School was just a mass of jumbled topics that focused more on performance than actually learning anything new.
*wow*
It's amazing and profound to me that they're cutting back on one of the main sources of actual deep bible discussions we ever had. The only place we studied the actual Bible (well, as close as it gets in JW) in depth.
