No tree for me yet this year either, so probably no ornaments unless it's something I can put away for next year when I'm hoping to have one.
And please, nothing scented. Unless it's 100% natural and aromatic spice based ... i.e. cinnamon=good, clove=good, vanilla=bad, apple=bad.
I would be happy with anything, but if you'd like to get to know me just a little bit first, I like:
anything unique to your area
nautical theme
classical music
Christmas music that particularly moves you, or the CD you listen to all season long
Theatre
History (except for wars)
something you're skilled at making
little sculptures or something you can set on a mantle or bookshelf
coffee mugs or teacups
picture frames

How to Bankrupt the WTS
by Farkel inhow to bankrupt the watchtower corporation.
when i was a pioneer, we were expected to "place" 100 magazines a month.
i knew i could only pawn off on people about 30 or 40 copies a month.

cog, it didn't occur to me to save mags for people in persecution, (I guess I always figured someone else would provide. Turns out that would have been YOU! :) ) but I had many fantasies about where I would hide once persecution broke out. I barely saw "The Diary of Anne Frank" once but it stuck with me forever. We didn't have an attic, which almost gave me an ulcer. Heck the whole fantasy gave me ulcers.

You can effect a Tipping Point.....
by sweet pea inplease prove to me i'm not posting in the graveyard shift....... besty and i were talking about password protected and family's exit this last few weeks.
we are full of admiration for the way that they have left with dignity and obviously made many think.
they have not faded, they had a good repuation until the very last moment - mark was an elder - but they stopped and made the decision to be up front and face the elders in a meeting.

I don't agree with the Tipping Point theory, because a mass exodus has already happened and it didn't effect a tipping point. Remember the early 80s? At least in my sphere of acquaintances, a LOT of people left in a short time.
It didn't tip anything organizationally. Even among those who left, they had been a big group of friends who were obviously talking together before they left. After they left, DAing stopped for a long time. So one cannot assume that anyone was influenced by their leaving to start their own questioning. The supposition in the congregation was that it had been "cleaned out." The group that was left grew closer and stronger in their faith.
I keep waiting for some shocking organizational change that will cause a Great Schism. But it won't happen from the outside. -

Personally, I think if I was "labeled" something (like Apostate, DA'd, etc.), I'd be written off as that label, and no one would think of me again. If they did, they would shake their heads sadly and say, "see, this proves we have the truth, the devil is after us and he's gotten Halcyon."
The way it is now, having just disappeared, my old friends are forced to wonder WHY I left. They knew I was a good JW and a good person. They knew I wasn't in trouble, they knew I didn't have fights and arguments with people or leave because I was offended or stumbled. Well, no, they don't KNOW that, but my point is that they're forced to THINK about why I left. They can't just write me off as a label.
With that churning around in the back of their minds, it's bound to get some of them thinking as well. I know for a fact that some still think highly of me. What I say still has weight. They can't just write me off!!!
Personally, I think that's much more effective to stir up thoughts. When I was a kid and people left, yelling "1975!" etc., I just wrote them off as having succumbed to fleshly thinking and reading "bad" letters from "bad" people. It's the "exemplary" ones who faded without a word who still have the power to raise questions. -

No children until the new system---Has this changed?
by Iwonder17 ini have noticed that the "wait until the new system for children" montra has seemed to go away in the past few years from the wt.
i am thinking that they realized that if the dubs stop having children, then they will stop growing in numbers.
as a result, they have stopped putting in writing that the dubs should wait to have children.

Was I so tuned out at the meetings my whole life that I never felt this pressure?
I always assumed I'd grow up and have children like my mom did. So I married and had children. I can't remember a single person telling me it wasn't wise. Oh, I remember hearing it said that if you don't have children you can do more, etc., but I never ever ever felt pressured not to.
More of the kids I graduated high school with waited til their late 30s to start their families, than friends at the KH.
Raising children was hard. I sometimes wish I hadn't become a mother. Turns out it wasn't a natural fit for me. I was much too lenient. -

What a convoluted metaphor! And I'm good at metaphors. This one almost went right over my head ... sounded more like a lesson in improving your oral reading skills.
memorizing 12 tribes = useless busy work
memorizing calculations to 1914 = more valuable, but impossible
memorizing all the JW rules = essential if you wanna CYA (cover your a**)!
memorizing doctrine & scripture about Christ's love and grace = priceless! -

Halloween Candy Recalled
by AudeSapere inhalloween candy recalled .
(you can verify this on snopes: http://www.snopes.com/food/warnings/coins.asp) .
there is a new warning put out by the canadian food inspection agency..... sherwood brand pirate's gold milk chocolate coins are being recalled due to the fact that they contain melamine, the ingredient in milk product that has caused many infant deaths in china.

If Sherwood brands is a Canadian company, I can imagine that perhaps it had some candy on the shelves in Canada when the melamine warning came out. They probably pulled all their candy but some people had already bought it. Perhaps they pulled their shipments so that no product got shipped to the US.
