COULD WE PLEASE RESPECT THE THREAD POSTERS WISHES!? Please don't let Reniaa hijack this thread. It's what she wants, and your letting her. This is a thread regarding Jesus - not Reniaa and her childish games.

Personal experience of accepting Jesus as God, how was it for you?
by digderidoo ini have decided to start another thread to the one on jesus...god or god's son?.
the reason for this is that i started a thread really looking for personal experiences, looking for reasons those with a jw background would change their opinion on this.
i wanted to know why those that believe that jesus is god now feel this, whereas years ago they didn't.. i think it's a shame the other thread has descended into a debate between trinitarians and jw apologists, whereas only a couple of posters responded to my original post.

Information Control & Thought Control - Newbies Check Steve Hassan Out !
by flipper ini've posted threads on this last year but due to many new members exiting the jehovah's witness cult and joining this board - i felt it's important to share steve hassan's information briefly to bring interest and attention to what former members in the witnesses were and are experiencing.
knowledge is power and it is important.. on page 49 in steve hassan's book " releasing the bonds- empowering people to think for themselves " it states " a common form of information control involves blocking out any critical or negative points of view.
some cults simply forbid members to have access to any non-cult material - such as newspapers, magazines, television, radio, and the internet - while others have more subtle ways of controlling information.

also be aware steve hassans very general points condemn jesus as a cult leader if you apply them "if you apply them"
in fact all religion would be condemned by this spray gun type generalisation
You could also apply it to non-religious settings like the army that requires complete obedience
work places don't escape either with their heirachy systems.
You could probably apply it took working at madonalds and being forced to wear colourful uniforms
This is some of your best work yet Ren. You give more reasons to read the book than not. It sounds as though this book could be beneficial in more ways than one.

District Convention ruminations
by sir82 inif y'all can stand one more dc thread, i thought i'd post some miscellaneous rumbling ramblings about this year's edition.. to protect my privacy, i'd prefer not to disclose the location - pm me if interested.. ***** attendance, as in all other years i can remember, was much lower on friday than the other days.
in fact, the attendance was 22% lower on friday than on sunday.
so, as usual, they hammered home the point about the importance of attending all 3 days....on friday!

infuriating.
Teachings. DECADES of a solid "truth" (1914) that inspired so many to follow without question, now wiped out with a single sentence. Once again, without question.

When i was 12, I flipped through bound volumes while laying in bed late at night. I used to intentionally scare the shit out of myself reading JUST the spirit stories. LOL

I can't imagine doing THAT in my wildest dreams.....
by AK - Jeff inputting on a three piece suit to spend a 90 degree summer day knocking on doors and trespassing!dragging an entire family, including babies and young children to three or four day meetings in an outdoor stadium, living in a seedy motel room for the week.getting home from work and spending the next six hours cramming for a 'theocratic review', getting the entire family ready to go, gulping down dinner, and speeding off to the hall, and then finally getting home around 11 pm, hurrying off to bed so that everyone could get up for work and school in the morning!going to school to explain to the teachers why little johnny can't color pictures of santa, salute the flag of his country, eat birthday cake with all the other 5 year olds, bow his head when prayer is offered, or exchange valentines with all the cute 5 year old girls in class.
and then explaining with grace why he is not immersed in a cult!well, on and on!
these things were typical of my witness life - now i cannot imagine ever doing such silly things, and especially thinking that somehow they would bring pleasure to my god!.

I can't imagine - clapping for something, that I really don't feel moved to clap for.
Hello AK Jeff. The list of things you had to do for little Johhny in school, reminds me of being young and going to school too. I myself don't remember any prayers being given, other than the recital of the "Lord's Prayer". I don't recall being told or instructed not to bow my head, only not to recite it. In fact, I went out and stood in the hall if I remember correctly. Is this "not bowing your head" a current teaching?

Thank you Wobble. Very much.
Flipper - Your a good man! lol You make a lot of effort with your posts, and in particular your replies... Since RTB was put out many years later than his first book, I drew the conclusion that perhaps it had more updated information. Would you recommend reading Combattting Cult Mind Control first? Do you think it matters? At this point and time, I'm more interested in myself. Also, after reading these books, do they make you more aware of the way people in everyday behave or "work"? Perhaps even subconciously?
A bit of a pisser for me the other day. I had a close relative try to bribe me into going to the DC soon. It really got under my skin, but I let it go - after I brought it to their attention. It was a big light on for me. They were not even concious of how it may have sounded. Of course, they have a big heart and that goes a long ways.
Best Wishes in the pursuit of your daughter Flipper. I read your posts a while back and it would seem you have your work cut out for ya.

Has being a JW effected your ability to make or keep friends?
by PEC inmichael jackson has been quoted as having no friends.
some here would like to blame his jw upbringing.. being a exjw, do you have trouble making and/or keeping friends?.
philip.

Sadly, in my case, that has been true thus far...
Me too, I am finding it hard to make friends....
What do you guys find hard, or hardest about it? Thanks for being so open about it too...I almost feel a little relieved. For myself, I found that I had quite a hard time with surface talk in my earlier stages of leaving. Just hard to relax, sit back and be myself. I tried to deflect away from myself by asking a lot of questions. People get a little uncomfortable when you ask lots of questions...lol...especially when you dont have a whole lot to say about yourself.
