The thing is if Jehovah’s Witnesses were honest and upfront about their beliefs and barbaric practices (such as a family shunning their own son or daughter/brother or sister/mother or father who chooses to leave the JW religion) then very few would join this religion.

i think these brave jewish men and women defined the word.
I also thought Defiance was a fantastic movie. I have watched it twice and enjoyed it very much each time. To me the movie says a lot about people's resilience and ingenuity in the face of horrendous tragedy and hardship.
I highly recommend seeing it.

one of terrys recent threads reminded me of something i thought about during my awakening from the jw untruth.
it is something that now to me seems very illogical in the adam and eve story.

As I was waking my brain from the mind controlled slumber caused by 40 years of rote learning (brainwashing) as a JW, this question about Adam and Eve was one of many that made me really start deconstructing my whole belief system.
And while I realise that we as a group of ex JWs have all chosen to individually take different paths as far as our beliefs go, isn't it wonderful that we now have the freedom to do so.

so for some time now, in attempt to help prevent the dubs from spreading their lies in the magazines, my parents (rock hound and little bo peep) have been stopping by the local laundry mats and taking out all the watchtower and awakes that are left behind and with a pen they write on the magazine, see jwfacts.com, and then they highlight it, and put it back in the laundry mat!
they have been doing this for some time now, and guess what??
When my mother in law (still a staunch JW) was in hospital recently we saw some Awake and Watchtower mags sitting in the waiting area. So that night when we came home I wrote the JWfacts website addresss on some little sticky notes (post-it notes) to put on the magazines the next time we visited. Unfortunately we never saw any more lying around in the three weeks we visited but I still carry the little notes just waiting for the opportunity to 'place' them.
On a side note just this weekend we were talking to one of the real estate agents selling our home and found out he had studied with a congregation in our area for some time. (We had already told the other agent he works with that one of the reasons we are moving is to get away from all the JWs that shun us including my family). This guy was never babtized but is thinking of going back. We talked to him for a while about our 40+ years as JWs and suggested that when he goes home he spends some time looking at the JWfacts website. He said he would.

One of Terry’s recent threads reminded me of something I thought about during my awakening from the JW Untruth. It is something that now to me seems very illogical in the Adam and Eve story. God creates man (and woman) with an incredible perfect brain waiting to be filled with knowledge and then forbids them from eating from the very tree that will supposedly give them knowledge.
And when Adam and Eve eventually give in to the temptation and eat from the Tree of Knowledge they are condemned to die and the rest of their offspring for the next so many thousands of years are condemned to a life of horrendous pain, misery, suffering and eventually death.
Doesn’t seem like the act of a ‘loving god’. Nor does it make any sense to me.
i am such a placid person.

((((Aussie)))) It's so sad to read of another casualty of the JW cult breaking up families. It is truly evil what they are doing to us.
I too have thought about getting on to A Current Affair or Today tonight and having the shunning policy and the other practices, such as what your ex is doing with your children, exposed. I have been totally shunned by my entire family for just over a year now and I am sure there would be thousands of others like us in Australia who are feeling this enormous pain, anger, injustice and sadness who would love to see this made public.
Hopefully you feel a bit better tomorrow. Hang in there and keep hoping that one day you get your kids back.
