mom: oh, hi.. me: well, it's been a long time, i just wanted to check and see how you and dad were.. mom: we're fine.. the conversation ranged from, the weather, my husband, my children and grandchildren, (whom she's never met) my animals, gardening.
we talked about how dad was doing now, (after a stroke) how he walks with a cane, and uses an electric wheel chair when they go to walmart.

I'd like to break free from the WTS, but I know my parents would treat me the same way, and I don't know if I could handle it.

I'm not sure about Noah, but I know plenty of jws who are looking forward to seeing birds eat the flesh of their neighbors, co-workers, relatives etc... Every time that scripture in Revelation is read and seeing everybody nodding I feel like puking...

well, i am gonna have to go again because my wife wants to go this year.
she missed last year because she was sick and was so depressed about it for a month after because of the guilt her stupid family laid upon my poor darling.
last night she was visiting her dad (the only one who didn't guilt her) and he asked if she was going to go this year.
Unfortunately, I will be there. Outside of my wife, nobody knows about my feelings towards the WTS. If my family or my wife's family heard that I didn't attend, it would get ugly very quickly. So I will go this year, hopefully this time next year I won't have to...

Just one note - the verse where Jesus says "You will be with me in Paradise" is actually found at Luke 23:43.
with the many threads surfacing here focusing on internet access opening eyes of beleivers and the unsuccessful d2d work, how many do you think really know the truth and are just going with the motions?
and if so, what is there reasoning?

Up until last summer, it never crossed my mind that this isn't "the truth". Now that I've learned what I have, I can't believe there aren't more leaving the org due to at the very least doubts about their ever-changing doctrines and false prophecies. For people who lived through 1975, or even those who were old enough to realize the significance of the 1995 generation teaching change, I don't know how they can keep supporting it.
My wife and I both feel there are plenty of people like me who stay associated and stay somewhat involved because they don't want to lose family members, even though they know the WTS is full of BS.

crazycate - When I first started to talk to my wife about my doubts, she was pretty upset. After discussing a couple of the issues (especially the fact that the masthead in the Awake! changed after the generation teaching change) she has come around.
undercover - the 1995 generation teaching change has always bothered me, but because other jws didn't seem to care, I long ago decided it wasn't a big deal after all. Until last summer when a few things started connecting...

After several months of reading this forum daily, I'm finally registered and able to post! I know many of you well from reading current threads almost daily since last summer. I've also spent several hours researching older threads. I have learned lots from this site and it has definitely contributed to my doubs regarding the Watchtower Society. I've really enjoyed comments from posters such as Blondie, seeker4, AllTimeJeff, Awakened @ Gilead, JimmyPage, undercover, stillin74 (But of course, there are tons more that I can't think of at the moment!). I've learned a lot from all of you!
To introduce myself (without giving up too much info), I am in my 20's. Of course both my wife and I have almost all of our close relatives "in" so I have been having to tread lightly. I have formerly held "positions" in the congregation (pioneer, ms), but now I am barely active.
Here are the issues I've had the most issues with:
1) Generation change in 1995 when the previous teaching expired - and no one noticed!
2) Date of 607 BCE for the fall of Jerusalem.
