I once tried to invent an anti-witness game based loosely on chess. It had different pieces such as publishers, elders etc. and one move where you could get out of a jam if your opponent was about to get you. I called that move Scripture Twist. I showed it to my friend and he thought it was funny but the game was unplayable.

Do you hate America because it's where wts was born?
by rebel8 ini wonder if some of the palpable anti-american anger is because it's where wts was born.. i'm not interested in political views.
heard ya loud and clear, over and over.
i'm also not interested in posts about how stupid americans/their culture is and how smart the rest of the world is.

Fundamentalists and Evangelicals seem to worship an "American Jesus". And that phrase "God bless America" what exactly is that supposed to mean?
Now rephrase the question: Do you hate America because it's blessed by fundamentalist christians?

The Rapid oncoming time of the end part 1
by Homerovah the Almighty into the student of ignorance and fear mongering : regarding your proclamation of the end times.. the point is the select signs of the times of the gt as written in the bible could be placed well in any moment of human history.
for last 2000 years and even be placed with greater accuracy in the middle ages, so when someone reads information from apocalyptic religious.
cults like the jws who are trying to superimpose fear into people so they will react in the way they want them to react, hence it pays to analise.

We predicted World War I - How would you answer?
by VM44 insome old timer jws (and probably some newer ones as well) say that they (the watchotwer) predicted world war i which broke out in 1914.. they apparently truly believe that statement.. how would you answer?.

Quite simply, "no you didn't."
Then they will bring out a 1904 watchtower, quoted out of historical context, which says that there will be a "great storm" on or around 1914.
You would have to counter rebut with several quotations from the watchtower in the 1890's which predicted that there would be no outbreak of war in Europe or if there was it would be before 1905 and have a small part to play in world affairs. You would also have to quote their interpretation of Matthew 24 in their book The Battle of Armageddon where they claimed that the wars and earthquakes and other signs were from the past 18 centuries. (Sorry I don't have more specific quotations, one of our scholars should)
You also have to emphasize that the Bible Students back then had an eccentric slow motion interpretation of Armageddon which would start slowly and build up to an intense level throughout the forty year period between 1874 and1914. It was supposed to consist of pure social chaos and disentegration of society which is why they never wanted a real world war in the first place since all wars require that the societies waging them have control and order so they can manufactor, transport and use weapons.
What happened in 1904 is that they started to have doubts about the tempo of armageddon since society was not breaking down as predicted. So they repackaged the whole deal into one intense armageddon but I don't believe they changed the rest. No WW1 just intense chaos with churches being destroyed and people at each others throat.
Bottom line is, they unpredicted WW1 way back in the 1890s and not only did it come, but it came right on their sacred date as if to taunt them. Of course, they changed their history with a completely different set of interpetions to suit the times.

Same here sspo. I found out shortly after leaving the witnesses that the Bible contradicts both external reality and is internally inconsistent.
I am an atheist with pantheistic sentiments ala Carl Sagan.

C.T. Russell- yet another amazing prediction

just yesterday he informed me that c.t.

Scientists have been predicting global warming since the late 1800's. Charles Russell was simply putting a Creationist spin to it. There won't be a water canopy suspended above the earth and if one were made, the water vapor which has 100 times the greenhouse effect of carbon dioxide, will turn this planet into a Venus look alike.

No Scott77 but he and a small group of others like him have dedicated their lives towards exposing psychic prognosticaters, televangelists, faith healers, television "prophets" all sorts of flim flam con artists. The JWs fall into that broad category.
By the way welcome to the board.

Thank you rebel8. I remember James Randi from the 1980's and have his book Flim Flam. I'm surprised he's still around squashing fairies.
I also remember waiting in a long line with a hardcover 1st edition of Cosmos at a book signing with Carl Sagan. The line was so long-I couldn't even see him-that I was discouraged from waiting. I truly regret having made that decision.
