My wife and thanksgiving
by DS211 inso my wife and i chatted about thanksgiving last night and decided were going to celebrate it.
she was reluctant at first but i then brought out that according to the bible that we shouldnt judge nor be judged on celebrating a festival because we are also still giving thanks to god for the life we have.
i know many witnesses are on the fence on whether thanksgiving is politicak or pagan or whatever, but its no e of those.

Awake! October 18, 1966 page 19:
"In what year, then, would the first 6,000 years of man's existence and also the first 6,000 years of God's rest day come to an end? The year 1975."
Our Kingdom Ministry March 1968 page 4:
"Just think, brothers, there are only about ninety months left before 6,000 years of man’s existence on earth is completed. Do you remember what we learned at the assemblies last summer? The majority of people living today will probably be alive when Armageddon breaks out..."
Watchtower August 15, 1968 bound volume page 499:
"Are we to assume from this study that the battle of Armageddon will be all over by the autumn of 1975, and the long-looked-for thousand-year reign of Christ will begin by then? Possibly…It may involve only a difference of weeks or months, not years."
Our Kingdom Ministry June 1969 page 3:
"…in view of the short time left, a decision to pursue a career in this system of things is not only unwise but extremely dangerous....Many young brothers and sisters were offered scholarship or employment that promised fine pay. However, they turned them down and put spiritual interests first."
Watchtower, October 15, 1969 bound volume page 623:
"More recently earnest researchers of the Holy Bible have made a recheck of its chronology. According to their calculations the six millenniums of mankind’s life on earth would end in the mid seventies. Thus the seventh millennium from man’s creation by Jehovah God would begin within less than ten years...Would not, then, the end of six millenniums of mankind’s enslavement under Satan the Devil be the fitting time for Jehovah God to usher in a Sabbath millennium for his human creatures? Yes, Indeed!"
Our Kingdom Ministry page 3 May 1974:
"Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end."
The Truth Book, primary study aid for Jehovah’s Witnesses to use with Bible Students published prior to the year 1975 reads as follows on page 9 under ‘Grand Blessings from God Near at Hand!’:
“Also, as reported back in 1960, a former United States Secretary of State, Dean Acheson, declared that our time is "a period of unequaled instability, unequaled violence." And he warned: "I know enough of what is going on to assure you that, in fifteen years from today, this world is going to be too dangerous to live in."
The Truth book published after 1975 changed the wording to remove the 1960/15 year reference.
The Watchtower Society knew exactly what they were doing and most certainly supported and promoted 1975 as being 'the end'.

Interesting movie trivia fact about new WT Headquarters location
by WingCommander inhere is a weird fact: as i was watching the official wt video about the new headquarters project (can be seen on jw.org), i recognized the building they were tearing down, the front shot of it.
because this building was used exclusively in the 1986 movie, "the manhattan project".
it's kind of a cult-classic favourite movie from my youth that i still watch.

"I was also disgusted by the fact that they were claiming God Himself was directing them to move, POSITIVE he told them to move."
I saw that in the video too. Funny, as it seems a lot changed in the year, or perhaps God is only speaking to some members of the Watchtower's governing body...
"Although we are not yet certain of Jehovah’s will regarding Warwick...We are proceeding to develop the site with the intention of relocating the world headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses there."

1st Time in 3 Years JW's call at our Door - Two 30 yr. long Time JW's
by flipper ini thought i was back on the jw radar after my jw daughter had a local elder call on me back in 2011 - but apparently not.
he obviously didn't let his elders know i lived here, no record was kept for posterity and just called my daughter telling her that her " dad has differences with the organization " because he never called back on me as he promised to talk again.
as i'm just inactive for 10 years.. so these two older jw ladys come knocking yesterday - one lady about 57 and the other lady older about 71 yrs.old ( i asked how long they had been jw's and told me they both have been in 30 years.

Flipper, you handled that extremely well. Hopefully, you gave them food for thought. Even if they are beyond thinking outside of the Watchtower, if they happen to even whisper anything that you shared to another, you never know the positive impact it may have to help someone out of the Society.

The Jehovah's Witness religion has gone for good !!!
by snare&racket ini am not sure how you all feel as we all left at different times for different reasons.... but this new bible seems to have put some final nails into a coffin that was once my jw life.
the religion is so far and so different to the religion i grew up in that it has become something i feel no affiliation with anymore, no bond, no shared ideas or even sentimental views.
different teachings on when the end is coming.

1975 - The Killer WT quote
by tim hooper inone thing is absolutely certain, bible chronology reinforced with fulfilled bible prophecy shows that six thousand years of mans existence will soon be up, yes, within this generation!
(matt.
24:34) this is, therefore, no time to be indifferent and complacent.

Absolutely, the Watchtower Society more than alluded to 1975...
Awake! From October 18, 1966 on page 19 states:
"In what year, then, would the first 6,000 years of man's existence and also the first 6,000 years of God's rest day come to an end? The year 1975."
Our Kingdom Ministry from March 1968 on page 4 states:
"Just think, brothers, there are only about ninety months left before 6,000 years of man’s existence on earth is completed. Do you remember what we learned at the assemblies last summer? The majority of people living today will probably be alive when Armageddon breaks out..."
The Watchtower from August 15, 1968 states in the bound volume on page 499:
"Are we to assume from this study that the battle of Armageddon will be all over by the autumn of 1975, and the long-looked-for thousand-year reign of Christ will begin by then? Possibly…It may involve only a difference of weeks or months, not years."
Our Kingdom Ministry from June 1969 on page 3 states the following:
"…in view of the short time left, a decision to pursue a career in this system of things is not only unwise but extremely dangerous....Many young brothers and sisters were offered scholarship or employment that promised fine pay. However, they turned them down and put spiritual interests first."
The Watchtower, October 15, 1969 when researched in the bound volume found on page 623:
"More recently earnest researchers of the Holy Bible have made a recheck of its chronology. According to their calculations the six millenniums of mankind’s life on earth would end in the mid seventies. Thus the seventh millennium from man’s creation by Jehovah God would begin within less than ten years...Would not, then, the end of six millenniums of mankind’s enslavement under Satan the Devil be the fitting time for Jehovah God to usher in a Sabbath millennium for his human creatures? Yes, Indeed!"Our Kingdom Ministry on page 3 in the May 1974 edition states:
"Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end."

Why are the moms so attached to religion?
by ILoveTTATT inplease don't take this the wrong way, i would love it for women to comment on this thread because i just can't understand something!!.
here's the pattern i see:.
mostly guys in here.. if the guys are married, their wives usually stay a jw, or it takes 3 times as much time to convince a woman to leave than a man.. if the guys have a jw father, the father is open-minded and can be more easily persuaded to leave.

In general, if you ever been in a serious relationship with a woman, there is the understanding there are much stronger emotions tied to even the most instinctual aspects of the relationship (aka sex) than for a man. For example, in the most blatant of terms, many men can just have sex without there being this strong emotional connection or feeling behind it. Many women, on the other hand, most of the time, like to have and feel the love, the emotional, the compassion, and passion behind the love-making.
You have to consider being a part of the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses as being in an extremely unhealthy and very damaging relationship. Ever see a talk show and wonder why (usually) a woman will stay in an abusive relationship typically more so than a man? It has nothing to do with logic or intelligence, rather women (in general) are in touch with their emotions better and the ties that bind them are stronger.
Enter what the Watchtower Society controls and/or manipulates - The BITE model:
Behavior
Information
Thought
EmotionalWhile there is an emotional section specifically designated, a person's behavior is strongly tied to their emotional state as well as information and your thoughts can be of an emotional nature. Having the Watchtower control and manipulate emotions the way it does, many men may be able to just disregard or tuck away much of the emotional grief or loss associated with the Society being wrong, for women, for many of them, you're taking about never seeing family, friends, presently and the future "promise" of the Watchtower's interpretation of a paradise on earth with the living and dead loved ones again - The emotional grief may be just too much as the emotional investment was much greater for them; not that men don't have the same losses or feelings - Just that it is stronger, deeper, and more encompassing for women in many cases.
Again, in general, the emotional connection and bondage is much stronger for a woman - As would be the heartache and loss on an emotional level. Ever heard of someone dying of a broken heart? It happens.
Not to forget also the organization 'cripples' women like they should be viewed in a 1950's sitcom. They do not give the illusion or feeling of power to women as they do to men (This ironically enough helps in a small way to leave the Society). They condition women to believe you need to look to their leaders. Even at the bottom of the barrel, men are "at least" the head of a woman in any adult relationship and interaction (Including preaching door to door, prayer, and decision making). All those subtle and not-so subtly items, consciously and subconsciously, bubble to the surface when you’re going to make, or think about making, a life altering change as leaving the Watchtower.
There are exceptions for both genders and rules are broken constantly, but in general, overall, I believe the above to be the causes of the difference you (and I) have seen and experienced.
