Guys I've been browsing other ex sites (Ex-Mormons, Ex-Scientologist) to see if they have anything near our experience and look what I found
by StoneWall inbeing born and raised a jw i didn't think any other religion or group of people could come close to having to deal.
with what we do as far as loosing family, friends, workmates etc.
because of beliefs.. when i read on ex-mormon and ex-scientologist sites it makes me sad that they too are going thru some horrendous.

I looked over the Ex-Scientology site.
The ex-cult feelings they have are very similar to what Ex-JWs are feeling and expressing.
As noted above by shamus, I do not believe that standard organized religion and a cult such as the dubs and Scientology can be compared. I have been going to Catholic services on Sunday's and while I cringe at the readings and the speech the Priest gives, no one is required to do anything, nor tithe (though one can) no do communion etc. They encourage education and questioning how and why.
Of course there are people who disagree with the message and change or leave, however, I wouldn't call them a mind controlling cult. Like the JWs.
The Scientology site was like this. People trying to rebuild their lives after leaving.

I was indoctrinated as a child.
I was a fourth generation JW.
I loved being told to sit in the coatroom during birthdays during class.
I also really enjoyed sitting in the hallways when the coatroom was too filled with coats.
Sitting while everyone stood for the Pledge was always a good time; I was a lazy child. And every other thing to stand out as that weird JW kid who was not to be anyone's friend because I was different and couldn't say "Happy Birthday" to them because I'd invite Satan into our home.
Birthdays? Who needs to feel special? Certainly not a child. All children like being told that they are lucky to get food, clothing and shelter everyday. That they are given gifts everyday by their parents. What gifts? Just that. Food, clothing and shelter. Oh, and lest I forget--Watchtowers and Awakes. Now those really made me feel good about myself.
Especially "Young People Ask..."

The Old Testament was a good guide for wandering around the desert; thousands of years ago.
Witness kids who claim they don't miss or don't care about B-days and other holidays are lying. When they leave, the *truth* comes out.

Some interesting laws in the old testament. I like the long hair. For men. Why aren't the dubs following that one? Beards too.

i'll name a few- you carry it from there !

All of the above.
I purchased, at Wal-Mart, and Target, those *Green* bags which are recycled and reusable. You can fit so much more in when you check out and they are easier to carry into the house. The only problem is the check out people--they have no clue how to fill them.
Since they hold more and the checkout clerk is used to the circular thingy that they can twirl and decide if your tomatoes should go on top of that can of beans, the "Bring Your Own Bags" ruin their bagging style.
I had a cart load at the Super Wal-Mart yesterday. A lady and man, both in their 60's got behind me with about 10 items in their cart. They should have gone to the Express lane and done it themselves. If was their problem they got behind me.
The woman kept sighing and making huffing noises because the checkout clerk had to bag my stuff using my *Special Bags*. I could see this old bat's ire, at me, before I started putting my stuff on the belt. I decided not to let them in front of me. Normally, with a friendly nod from someone, I will. I can live with the wait. Not for her.
It actually took 12 minutes to check out. She was furious.
I felt glad I made her mad. All she had to do was go to the *Do it Yourself* Express lane which was open. Lazy toad.

Hence my question and request for thoughts and opinions.
You are correct, that is my perception. I also have seen, in the media, much older, very wealthy women who were married to younger men. The men very obviously married them for the money. The men being very good looking and being considered playboys.
I have not seen many wealthy, very old, very good looking men with very young women. The men seem to not care about their appearance since they have money to attract the opposite sex.
Women, in general, no matter the age, still need to try to keep up their looks in order to justify a much younger man.
Since this seems more to apply to celebrities, how many celebrities, especially men, who date people their own age? If these people were the average Joe on the street, would a member of the opposite sex, who was 35-50 years younger, really, honestly, date them? Seriously?
I bet not.
BTW, this is my last post of the day. I am limited to 10. I have only had 10 since I started on the board. I am not bad, evil or put on restrictions. I have never had more than 10. I have no idea when the posting restrictions are lifted. I can answer in 23 hours.
Cheers!!

The Urban dictionary has 78 definitions of Cougar:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cougar
It has 3 for Dirty Old Man:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=dirty+old+man
Gotta love the descriptions and comparisons of each description.
Personally, anything over 15-18 years for me is too much. It starts to get into the *could be a parent, albeit young parent, range*. Different music, different movies, different clothing, etc.
And yes, it is entirely possible to enjoy all those things from different generations. Enjoying things you don't like is a lot easier when the person whose stuff you don't like and you are trying to appreciate has lots of money to make you forget why you really dislike Mozart or Bach. Or Eminem. Or the BeeGees. Dollar signs and smiles cover up a lot.
BTW, is there a name for men who date much younger women? Since women have recently been labeled Cougars, what is the label for men. My bad on Dirty Old Men. I apologize for that.
