A Note For 'Wiz' And Other Wizards
by hillary_step inwiz, their religion is just a formalism to buy their way into heaven hopin' that little ol' saint peter will let them through the pearly gates.. i have started a new thread on an issue that i think some might want to comment on.
the quote above is taken from a recent exchange that took place on englishmans thread that dealt with his families attitude toward his disfellowshipped situation.. i did this not to highlight a personal failure, but because it is typical of comments that the average jw would make.. have you ever stopped to think how harmful the propagation of the, 'we live - you die, we good - you bad'' mentality is, for the thinking and emotional well-being of the jws as a group.
in fact, i have noticed in recent times that the wts itself, has been reigning in on some of the expressions of exclusivity that they have previously encouraged, worldlings for example, recognizing the harm it does to their cause.

wiz:
If I prove something as truth how is that putting anyone down?
"proving truth" does not cause the put down. ASSuming you have the "truth" and proceeding to chastize others causes the putting down.Does Santa Claus exist? No. How is that putting anyone down? It's just the truth. That's all.
Santa Claus is an intentionally ficticious character to amuse/control children. One's theological viewpoint (for a theist) is connected directly to there sense of self and consequently is much easier to shatter. So I guess I can take it that many people here that put the JDubs down do it to make themselves exclusive/better/superior?
To these folks it's better than being a dub who put others down to make themselves exclusive/better/superior. At least these folks aren't feeding the egos of the powows in new york. How can everyone be right? An eventual truth must come out.
It's called personal perspective. It's called making up YOUR OWN MIND to decide what is truth for YOU.Does God exist? Yes or no, it can't be both. That means those who believe in God or atheists. ONLY ONE can be right.
Since Atheists and Theists both exist today, I would have to disagree with you. Both believe they are correct. Both believe the other is incorrect. Therefore, they are both right, and both wrong, all at the same time, depending upon WHO you talk to.Did Jesus exist? And was he the Messiah? Christian or Jews. ONLY ONE can be right.
How can I believe in a/my religion and then say that the other religion is right too? I would be saying my religion is a lie. Also, by my believing in a/my religion I'm saying, by implication, that everyone else's is a lie, ain't I?
No, you are saying that "everyone else's is a lie" according to you as you speak only from your perspective. That doesn't mean that everyone else's is actually a lie as a universal "truth", it just means that you think so.I think you've asked a very good question though. Rather than attempting to fully answer your rational, I would simply ask: What is the point of believing anything? Why don't you just go with the tangible and forget the cosmic voodoo? Or is this place just too d@mn dull without all of the mumbo jumbo?

Why do we care so much?
by sleepy inwhy do we keep coming here?.
why when many of us have left do we still feel drawn to discuss watchtower issues?.
in the scope of the hole world the organisation known as jehovahs witnesses means little for most people but for us it's still a majour part of our lives.. we might even spend more time now thinking and discussing it than we did as witnesses.. of course it still effects us we will never forget what has happened to us.. for many the sense of deception and disapointment is great, coupled with the frustration that many of our former friends and family just do not understand us and our choice to leave.. we would like to see and end to this rotten organisation and hope that we can play at least a small part in that.

Marilyn "Barked":
As for the idiot that said we are here to justify ourselves - I love it!!! It's always good to see examples how JWs think (or don't think~).
Presumably, because I made the following comment:I personally find it amusing to watch others' means of self-justification.
My Response:And it's even more lovely to see the idiotic tendancies some ex-JWs/non-JWs display during their 'social intercourse', considering that I am not nor have I ever been a JW.
I'm glad you feel 'special' coming to this "exclusive club" Marilyn, as I am sure it helps you to justify yourself socially.

Congrats to Silent Lambs
by proplog2 inalthough i don't agree with your general motives you have accomplished some good.
it appears the watchtower has altered its official policy judging from the reports on the recent elder seminar.. allowing serial cases to be counted as two or more witnesses is similar to the exception courts make in child abuse cases.
ordinariily a jury is not to consider evidence from one case as bearing on another case but this is allowed in the case of child abuse.. i never expected them to fold this easily.

BTW proplog2, with this quote from your previous post...
However, I believe the Silent Lambs issue is a left over from the 1980's. A lot of damage has been done to innocent people in the name of safe- guarding children from molestation.
Let me rephrase my previous statement:I see that poplog2's real agenda is silencing silentlambs and he/she/it is using this "bad agenda-ploy" as his/her/it's preferred instrument for bashing.

WRONG:
Nope.
I am opposed to MOST of what the Watchtower teaches.
So you say. However, I believe the Silent Lambs issue is a left over from the 1980's. A lot of damage has been done to innocent people in the name of safe- guarding children from molestation.
Oh gee, and does that lessen or nullify the effect that child molesters have on children? Perhaps it's all just a silly illusion that children have from the womb then? Can't trust a kid to tell ya tha truth when they say "daddy put his pecker in my butsy" eh? -
