Pre-emptive shunning - a growing reality
by cedars ini'm scanning through some of the results from the 2012 jw survey as they're coming in.. the most populous of the six voting categories with 76 voters so far is my own category, for those who are inactive, or "faded/fading" (not disfellowshipped or da'd, but no longer reporting time on the ministry).. one statistic already leaping out at me surrounds the question "do you experience 'pre-emptive shunning' from active witnesses, who view you as 'bad association'?
" of the 74 who voted on this so far, 76% have answered "yes" to this question.. it's early days, and obviously i will have a clearer picture of the extent of the problem once the survey closes at the end of the year.
however, the results already in suggest that pre-emptive shunning is widespread among inactive ones, despite this not being an "official" policy of the society.. i was interested in your opinions as to why this may be?

"Bad association spoils useful habits.." + "witnesses who don't preach aren't real JWs" = shun policy
this sort of mentality allows wts to get away with murder and these people don't mind disown their own families for the sake of the cult and the leaders they know nothing about. Future cannot look good for those on the inside and those with families on the inside as longer the system continues the more ridiculous noo lite GB will introduce.

djEggnog:
Who gives a shit if it's claims they returned to Judea or Israel, or entered the walls of burned Jerusalem! The point being is what Russell claimed for 606 is totally different from what today's watchtower teaches! And claiming that Knorr "overrules" past teaching is total bullshit that only brain dead dub will swallow. By what right did he overrule that? What Jehovah guided Russell in one direction and then all of a sudden Jehovah changed his mind and totally changed the idea on 536/537 and also regards to what indicated return of Jesus 6000years vs end of gentile times? Fact is that neither archaeology nor history support watchtower's stupid claims but its deceitful, low lives like yourself that will ignore all the facts and will stick with the cult. The last watchtowers dealing with 607BC are pure garbage, and with such misrepresentation it's even surprising that watchtower had named any sources but obviously they count on witness population not to check them.
You are a typical apolagist who ignores the reality what is taught within the congregations and how higher education is discouraged. Just like 1975, you blamed everyone other than the watchtower who were the sole reason that bullshit date got started to be proclaimed as something bigger than it really was. It's same type of garbage that comes from witnesses today and for the last 100+ years that the end being around the corner. You and the rest of you will die in this system, and so be it, don't force your kids to have shallow minds and imagine that everything outside of your cult is evil. The many professionals that ended up as witnesses were trained prior to becoming witnesses in the first place, so don't give me this shit that witnesses have doctors and other professionals as if these came out of born-ins. General witness population is uneducated and that's a fact. Very few gain college or university diplomas because they were discouraged from doing so as they grew up, thanks to watchtower's propaganda. Higher education is for development of mind but also for allowing a person to have a better career in the future to support themselves and their families and higher standard of living unlike many of witnesses today. To blame witnesses themselves for not gaining higher education and not blame watchtower is another typical deception as many will attest to the fact that numerous talks downplay the importance of higher education regardless if it was in 1975 or in 2012, the same anti-education propaganda is being heard from the podiums and at CA and DA.
Research is more than looking up wts cd-rom and that is what everyone encourages confused17, no one is saying to only go by what we have to say and take our words for it.

confused:
You will get many opinions and sometimes witnesses actually respond as one above. While JW will warn you against research and give you ridiculous answers like Jerusalem being destroyed in 607 because 537-70=607 you owe it to yourself to do actual research what history and archeology shows. You owe it to yourself to research what Russell taught regards to 606 and why did he teach 606 was Jerusalem's destruction because it had nothing to do with Jews returning to Israel but rather that Cyrus conquered Babylon in 536BC. Do your research without fear.
ps. Don't let anyone tell you, you're too young to understand. Watchtower is deceitful and it trains it's followers to be stupid, that's one reason why higher education is looked down upon. You're not 10 anymore, you can figure things out if you simple research. One thing you'll notice ex-JW will encourage you to research, and think, to examine what historians and archeologists have found while witnesses won't.

Welcome,
Waking up to reality is tough. For those of us who really believe the shit it's hard reality to swallow because we believed we would live forever and all the shit that came with it. Fact is, we've been lied to. It takes time to get over the reality that we've been lied to and it may take time to come to that conclusion. That's why it's so important to do independent research and check the sources. Luckily for you, you're still young and unbaptized which is a HUGE PLUS.
Also depends where your parents stand on wts, are they total drones and won't allow reason and will follow blindly because strangers (GB) say so, or will they step back and try to reason on the topic. If they're drones like many witnesses you have to be careful what you tell them or you may get kicked out for speaking against the watchtower. When you research, your knowledge may take you where you never imagined but it's all depends what you want, do you want the most likely truth or just enough to know the basic truth about the watchtower but still keep your faith in the bible and it's god.
I will suggest, you examine the facts about the watchtower, go to college and take a meaningful course that you can enjoy and make a decent wage so you can support yourself and your future mate. A good career makes a huge difference in enjoyment of life despite what you were told by the watchtower - organization of uneducated bafoons. Your morals don't need to change but most likely need tweeking so that you're not superstitious of everything out there as if everything is evil because it's controlled by satan like wts likes to indoctrinate people.
The questions you asked that were forwarded to the elder, you'll probably get typical BS answers that you can find yourself in the watchtower publication.
Anointed don't communicate with GB because GB is the faithful slave that feeds other domestics including other anointed......
For Jerusalem, they will probably refer you to the latest articles on the topic which are found in Oct and Nov 2011 public watchtower magazine. The articles misquote and omit vital facts which can be easily seen if you research the sources quoted. I suggest you read excellent rebuttal by Carl Jonnson, here are the links
Rebuttal to October 2011 Watchtower
Rebuttal to November 2011 Watchtower
Very thorough and easy to read articles.
As for Paul's letters, it's obvious they will tell you they were inspired because what else can they tell you. He was used by Jesus, preached and spread the word.....blah...blah...blah..... A better question could be asked what evidence is there for Jesus as described by the bible?
Don't worry, take your time researching and make sure you have valid sources for you research, when you do decide to talk with witnesses about anything use watchtower publications or sources they can't simply brush aside as if apostate articles are bunch of lies which is their typical argument. I also suggest that you do a thorough research on the topic before you ask your "bible" study conductor or other witnesses, but as my first paragraph stated, be careful not to rock the boat so not to get kicked out of home at too young of an age. If you have any question, or need old publications just ask and many will help you or guide you in the right direction where to find or obtain the information you're looking for.

Sad end for the burm. I use to breed them but many people aren't ready for large reptiles and when a small cute snake or gator gets too large the people end up simply dumping them outside in Florida and the problems begin. Burm hatchlings are usually around 18 inches and will eat sparrow size birds or full grown mice right after hatching so it's easy to understand why these larger reptiles can easily overtake an ecosystem.
The good old days of raising reptiles. Funny thinking about it, there were a couple of elders who asked if I bled the food before feeding it.lol -

Another day, another apostate. Here's my story.
by I Want to Believe inbeen lurking for a bit, and feel safe enough now to tell my story (condensed).. i'm a third-generation born-in, but my parents were inactive for most of my upbringing.
this means i got the worst of both worlds--no worldly friends (home schooled all but grades 2-3), no witness friends (since we never went to the hall except for memorial), and a generally isolated upbringing in a tiny, tiny town.
needless to say, my emotional, social, and personal growth were stunted.

Welcome,
Glad to hear you got some education and that you began researching the cult. If you have any question just ask. How's wife taking it? Crisis Of Consciencec might be a good book for her to read if she's willing as it has a lot of history in there and it describes the dealings of the GB and the few scandals that they were involved with. That might help her with understanding what's behind the organization. Be careful what you tell the family and others and if you want to fade, it would be ideal to fade with the wife together especially if you change halls but most likely you'll lose JW so called friends anyway but hopefully your family only sees you as weak in the faith and continue talking with you.

Is it possible to be friends with a devout Jehovah's Witness?

It all depends on an individual if they would allow themselves to read COC. Many would throw it out but again it depends on individuals. I would say born ins are less likely to read it while the recruited ones have a greater chance of reading it especially if they were fairly liberal minded prior to being duped into wts. Generally speaking, it's a waste of money to buy a book that they will throw in a garbage, but if anything, you can lend them the book instead of giving it to them, that way they may be obliged to return it instead of just throwing it in a trash.

Hello,
SDA and WTS have same roots. Research and research some more. What you will discover will sadden you and probably make you angry but that's natural. I've been duped when I was young and naive, thinking that wts was the truth without knowing it's past and many hidden skeletons in its closet. 1975 was big but there are so many other dates that it's so sad that majority of witnesses don't have a clue about. Having no JW immediate family is a blessing, and getting DF probably is another one since it allowed you to look around more freely. Watchtower is hides what it is and you will do yourself a great benefit by researching what you've been taught, what wts use to teach and why they changed the teaching when they did. The amount of misinformation that their publication contain will make your jaw fall to the floor. WTS' entire past is out there in the open for everyone to see and that is why they discourage general witness population from looking outside of wts publications.
Once you start researching you will want more and more knowledge which surely will take you in direction of examining the validity of the bible itself, did noah's flood really take place, where Jews really in Egypt and cross the Red sea with Moses, did Joshua really destroy the Canaanite cities as claimed and where did the Jews originate from.
Take your time and search for knowledge as you get over the fear and guilt instilled in you by wts the publishing corporation.

Generally no, but it depends on individual and to what extend one follows the party line. I had few non-jw friends but it wasn't to the same extend as pre-jw years and that's probably because I wasted more of my life of the cult meetings and more time with false wts drones than I should had.
