What words and phrases do Brits and others see as 'American'?

as an american, i see words such as cheerio, blimey, bloody (when referring to something negative), loo, bugger, fag (cigarette), etc.

as chiefly british (i suppose they are).. what words and/or phrases do you consider to be chiefly american?

i'm honestly unaware of which words i use that may not be used in other english-speaking countries.

Did anyone find the DC encouraging?

i remember going to the assemblies and conventions and feeling encouraged by the information that was presented.

in hindsight, i may have just felt that way because that's how you were supposed to feel.

i was a 100% brainwashed fool for many years, if the gb said it, i did, i felt it and i believed it .

PINATA?????

does anyone know where i can find any information in any of the watchtower material in regards to pinatas???

i have heard that the society did a flip/flop on the issue, saying that it was okay to celebrate it now, explaining that we shouldn't be so nit-picky about how a practice was celebrated in the past, and concentrate more on what its meaning is today....that despite the pinatas' pagan roots, the practice of celebrating it or whatever, does not have the same meaning today, so it's up to an individuals conscience now.

i've asked this question before, but have not received any response.

I'm tempted to send my mum and dad a card each next year just to gauge their reactions and point them in the direction of that article if they ask why?

Wolverines, Sociopaths

i've been doing some reading about sociopaths or people who have "antisocial personality disorder.

" one book states 1 in 25 people are sociopathic.. this basically means someone without a conscience facility.

someone who cannot empathsize with others.

My neighbour is a sociapath. At least that's the only explanation I can settle on to describe her behaviour.

Basically she doesn't care about anyone but herself. If she wants to crash and bang about at 4 in the morning she will. If she wants to play loud music all day she will. If you complain about it you get the 'get used to it' treatment. She mainly started playing music loudly after I complained about the stomping about. If you try and get someone from your landlord to sort it out they get the nice and sweet treatment that pops up whenever she wants something. It's hopeless trying to get them to reason with her as they're never dealing with the real her.

I found the best way to deal with it is basically be noisy right back. So I play my music really loud during the day until she can't take it anymore and leaves. At least I get a few hours of peace while she's out. I wouldn't do that late at night as that would annoy my other nice neighbours.

Of course she's starting throwing temper tantrums now because of it. The last one was a few weeks ago when at 8pm she decided to slam her front door repeatedly, then bang loudly on my ceiling followed by slamming her window repeatedly. I just laughed. If she tries it again I'll be giving her the same advice she gave me 2 years ago. Get used to it or move out.
