double07, not just teenage boys ...
Let's see, during my JC, I never mentioned smoking pot or getting drunk or gambling... And I never went and confessed to the other men I slept with besides the one I admitted "porneia" with.
have you done a "sin" that you didn't confess to the elders?.

i have been on this site daily, almost from its beginning, since i left the jws in 2001, but i have been more of a reader than a poster, as you can see from my post count.
i know few here know me, although i know many of you through reading your posts.
maybe it is not right to ask for support, when i generally stay quietly in the background of this forum, but i want only to speak a human misery of the deepest kind.
Truman, I'm so deeply sorry for the loss of your son. As a mother, I can't even fathom how I would be able to cope with something like that. My condolences to you and yours... May you find strength in each other at this time.
Along with what n. drew said about the brain not being fully developed at 18, you've known your son longer than you knew your mother and much more intimately. Being a parent is much different than being a child. We remember EVERYTHING about our kids that matters... And I doubt that time will fade your son's memory from your mind. A parent never forgets.
If other JW's found out about it, you would be subject to disfellowshipping on the grounds of "interfaith". That's about it.
tornapart, I think you're right that it's Portuguese... And linguica is DELICIOUS lol
i just caught this in the july 2012 study watchtower:.
"8 note how the works of the flesh.
breed disunity.
I think the difference is that loose conduct involves simply an act or acts... Brazen conduct involves judging the offender's attitude and motives...which makes it a broader spectrum of things that could be a cause for disciplinary action. It basically makes it so that any action that is contrary to what is prescribed by the Watchtower Society is considered "brazen"... You're going against what you're told, which shows a willfull disobedience and disregard for "Jehovah's laws". Loose conduct usually centered around a select few things.
is there a tiny part of us who left the truth just because we were fed up of following rules?.
i know the truth/troof is not all it is cracked up to be but i have been a little bit of a rebel all my life and so rebelled.. .
did you leave partly to get more booze, sex, drugs and sex?
I didn't leave because of the rules, I left because I no longer believed it.
That said, I did spend some time "catching up" on what I'd missed... Got drunk a couple of times (not really my style), smoked weed, and had sex with whoever I wanted to. After 2 years, I got that all out of my system lol.
i am not an expert in control groups but my cong had this odd habit of copying each other in weird ways:.
jobs.
window cleaners.
YES!!! Pyramid schemes/Multi-level Marketing schemes...diets (HerbaLife, Inner Cleanse...ugh), Mary Kay, Avon... Plus a plethora of cleaning business of all kinds...window washers, carpet cleaners, general house and business cleaning... If one found a way to make money, pretty soon the "market" was saturated with other JW's trying to jump on board. Little do they realize that most of the market had already been "tapped", since they're only allowed to associate with other JW's lol. Pretty soon, Sister Showoff is going to get tired of holding Pampered Chef parties and ordering from every sister in the hall.
do they both lead people away from god?.
I don't think it's the goal of atheists in general to "lead" anyone anywhere. Individually (those who are mentally balanced, anyway), we are about ourselves and challenging what WE EACH believe, not pushing our thoughts on others...unless it's in a debate, and then usually what is said is backed up with scientific fact and research... Not with the intent of "leading" anyone away from god, but of making people aware of what the facts are so they can come to their own conclusion.
That's how I see it, anyway.
it's getting scary.
i think the society is cautious enough (legal, legal) to avoid saying or doing anything too radical, even in the "kool-aid" watchtower.. but individual witnesses are another story!.
good god!
At this point, I think a lot of them would drink kool-aid laced with cyanide if it was presented as "New Light" in triggering Armageddon.
numerous churches go around trying to blame the current agenda 21+ on satan.
they claim that satan is trying to get the banks to totally enslave us so we can be bar-coded and live like animals.. now, here is the question.
if satan was doing this, then where are all the churches trying to ask all their members to skip $5 of donations for one session, and put that money into buying silver?
My view on the whole Satan vs. God fable is that Satan was actually the good guy. God wanted people to be ignorant and just blindly follow what he says without asking "Why?". Satan, having been around God for so long and knowing how he works, got sick of it and said "Ya know what?? NO MORE!" and decided to let Eve in on the big secret. Now, here's what so many religions leave out of the equation: The Tree of Life. There were two trees...one that gave knowledge, and one that gave eternal life. Which means Adam and Eve were either NOT perfect to begin with, or the Tree of Life was there in case they DID eat from the Tree of Knowledge. My view is that God got pissed at being disobeyed and decided "NO FRUIT FOR YOU!", so he had a cherub guard the Tree of Life so they couldn't eat from it.
Satan, on the other hand, saw this and saw that it was unjust...and like we do today, he talked some sense into some of the angels and convinced them that something was rotten in Denmark. This caused a war, which Satan lost due to a low number of soldiers on his side.
After that, those who wrote the bible decided Satan was the bad guy (because he lost...c'mon, this is what countries do today when there's a war...the loser is painted as the "bad guy" in the winning country). So now all of a sudden, Satan is trying to enslave us, he's trying to kill us, he's using his demons (which were angels...how does one change their form just because they change their stance on things? I know I'm still me, even though I'm no longer a JW...) to ensnare us, haunt us, afflict us with problems and diseases...
All sounds like propaganda from someone who doesn't want to lose the foothold he had on the people he created... If you ask me, Satan tried to free us, but was kind of martyred for it.
That's assuming I actually believe this junk, which I don't LOL.
