  never before 1995...no date or period for the end...we are in uncharted waters

  right now.......and since 1995.....wt has no real teaching to show how close we are to the end......none......most dubs prob dont even know......but wt has always been about dates.....and how close the end is to those dates......but now.....since we unplugged the generation of 1914 to the end of the world.......and now that we are still recruiting the anointed for heaven......the last days can last and last and last......duh...that is why they are called the last days!!

  !........and so do they still teach it is "very, very near" (only used one time in wt)....or "imminent" ??

  ?......just a year ago i think?.......so how close do they say we are now and why?.........damm the bible is soooo clear that nobody knows the day or hour...yet i bet they still say is just around the corner (based on what scripture!?!??!?!?!)..........

  Aaaargh! Acronyms!!! Please, whatsa "QFR"?? Quarterly Field Report??? Whaassa "OFO"?? Official Field Overseer???

  About the actual topic, maybe WTBTS has FINALLY wised-up and decided to stop putting their necks on the chopping block (constantly predicting 'the end of the world...) - oh, how I wish that analogy was literal....

  Anyway, I've mentioned a very old book (well, 1962...) written by a Catholic layman named William J. Whalen before; he stated in his book "Armageddon Around The Corner" that the failure of WTBTS 'doomsday' prophecies should force the religion into claiming that 'Armageddon' came invisibly in order to prevent continued embarrassments to the Governing Body... He (Mr. Whalen) also predicted that the WTBTS/JWs would have to alter their message in order to continue in existence... Looks like Mr. Whalen's prophecies were much closer to the truth - that is, REALITY - than those of the GB.

  WT Society's Skewed View of Speaking Truth - June 15th Witness Only WT

  once again our lurking jw friend sent us a copy of the june 15th " witness only " watchtower.

  all i can say is that the wt society sure knows how to compartmentalize and pick and choose how they view truth and honesty.

  i'll share some of these " golden nuggets " and see what you think.

  Wow... Thanks for having the strength of stomach to post that, Mr. Flipper... I'm dumbstruck. I'll never understand how it is the WTBTS can make such comments and not see their own behavior reflected there, as in: "A malicious lie is told with a view to harming someone ; it's purpose is to make the person suffer in some way or experience distress ."

  As in the WTBTS lying about 1975, and then lying about having lied about it... And other lies, especially as you pointed out, the lies to protect child molesters...

  why?........is it therapy or revenge?....or wanting to save others from the real truth?..what else is there?...........i feel all three...and why do i so want to help others...does not evryone have a right to their own belief?.......oompa.

  Well, Hello, Peaches! That's a cute handle! Welcome to the board! Glad to hear you're doing well; I can identify with your comment, "haven't spoken to my JW family in over 16 years they are very active JW ( more like fakes people that worry about their apprence)"

  Yes, both aspects of your comment are applicable to my still-in-the-JWs parents and little brother - saw a lot of hypocrisy in my parents' family and am soooo glad to be out of there - as well as the hypocrisy of the WTBTS, especially.

  i got this sent to me recently.

  its about an earthquake that jw's survived thanks to the wts's instructions on how to prepare.

  of course though, all the deaths are not the fault of the earthquake but rather the catholic church for not preparing the people like the wts had the dubs.

  Considering that the earthquake [recent one in Italy] was predicted - by a seismologist whose predictions were based on a science that has proven that the earth is far older than the JW idea of 49,000 years; the JWs are probably taking credit for information provided by a secular source - as I stated below under the thread, "Earthquake in Italy - sign of the times!" ... Quote:

  "The saddest part is that an Italian seismologist successfully predicted that the area was going to be hit by a major earthquake based on his measurements of emissions of radon gases in the area, and the local officials got upset at the idea that he might 'panic' some people and forced him to remove his warnings and website from the Internet.   The CNN article quoth: "Case isn't alone. More than half of American adults have changed religion in their lives, a huge new survey by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found. And there is no discernible pattern to the change, just "a free for all," one of the lead researchers told CNN."

  I sure wish I could see a trend for JW numbers to decrease, but I'm afraid that this process of seeking new experiences may actually add to the JW numbers... Depends on how skillfully they hide their crackpot ideas - and we've seen that they're pretty good at sucking people in with dishonest, false hopes...

  Another quote from the article: "I've been struck by the very large number across all the different groups who say they just gradually drifted away. Not all of this is the product of carefully considered, conscious decision-making that happens at a specific point in time," Smith said...."

  That could work both for and against the WTBTS. This pertains well to Oompa's thread, "So why do we do this?" and the responses that state that their (the posters) motivations include preventing another person from joining the JW cult. Thanks for posting this! Zid

  Why the sudden change of heart?

  after reading two consecutive posts about people returning to the fold, i have to ask a question... on some level, be it conscious or otherwise, have world events of the past year caused some to reconsider that we are in the "end times"?.

  Hah! I think about the time period of 1810 - 1818! There was a MASSIVE earthquake in New Madrid, Missouri: http://hsv.com/genlintr/newmadrd/ ... The capitol of the United States was invaded and captured by a foreign nation (Britain, during the War of 1812) and that was only one of the conflicts going on at that time... Then the Brits were driven out of Washington D.C. by a combination of hurricane and tornadoes.... Mt.   I suspect that people living in that time period may have thought they were living in the "Time of the End" too... 'Course, all of that was just a sneeze of Planet Earth compared to: Deccan Lava flows; asteroid strike that brought the age of the dinosaurs to a close; eruption of Mt. Toba approx. 74,000 years ago which almost wiped out humanity at that time. I could keep going, but I'll spare you. Humanity tends to be VERY short-sighted about the historical overview; I was just musing today at the fact that I've never - NEVER - seen a city located intelligently by its founders - they ALWAYS start at the water line and build up from there - no one's EVER thought to locate the city's foundations up on a butte above the high-water mark!! No wonder there are so many 'flood' myths!! Zid

  Good posts... I often ask myself that same question, Oompa, 'cause I've been out for 24 years and I thought I'd worked all the "JW thinking" out of my system... Hubby claims I haven't, yet, and I can see many areas, in my ways of thinking and behaving, from which I still need to 'flush' such poisoned thinking.

  Coming here reaffirms the intelligence of my choice. Coming here allows me to associate with others who 'GET' it - in a way that a 'worldly' person who HASN'T been a member ever could... Coming here allows me to play, have fun, reveal things about myself which - again - a 'worldly' (to use a JW buzz word) person could never get.

  Thanks for starting this thread, Oompa! BTW, I finally figured out how to post pix- I've been threatening to post a pix of me in my Dragon costume with Santa for my avatar - I removed the pix - realized I was hijacking someone else's thread, that of a totally new person... His thread is really cute - new member C.T. Russell's first post and very cute picture of Santa!

  the recent internet phenomenon seems to be that 1. some news story breaks, and then 2. people start talking about it and twittering and forwarding emails about it.

  and then it multiplies and multiplies until finally, 3. the whole world is talking about it.

  the same with the madoff scheme.
