" Poverty was common among God’s people at all times. Even in the Mosaic Law, God declared: “Someone poor will never cease to be in the midst of the land.” (Deut. 15:11) And “the law of Jehovah is perfect.” (Ps. 19:7) So, poverty in Israel was not a consequence of them not observing the law; rather, it was intended to be a part of the Israelite’s life. Perfection does not exclude poverty."

Absolutely terrific mimicry of the WTBTS 'hopscotching' style of bible quotations!!! Absolutely LOVE it!! (hard to type with cat on lap/keyboard) I have not seen this before, but this immediately went into my fav's!! just wondering whether anyone here has ever heard of this tv show - on "adult swim" if you've got cable in the u.s. - was usually on late at night to prevent impressionable young minds from exposure... : http://www.adultswim.com/shows/moralorel/indexpage.html#video.

anyway, it's one of my favorites - and you can access and see complete episodes at that website.

though it spoofs protestantism in general, there are aspects which apply to jehovah's witnesses also, since the jw religion/cult is an offspring of american protestantism - in fact, i think jws would be classified under the "frontier revivalism" category..... enjoy!

Yearbook 2009 claims Witness offical Website is a huge hit! What about us?

yearbook p.8 says watchtower.com "94 persons a day submit: would you welcome a visit?

in 2008 audio versions of publications were made avalible in 17 languages...there are many examples of people who looked up "jehovah's witnesses" on the net and came into the truth, but how many do you think have joined up here?

and how many have left the truth due to the net......i have!.

Crap! I added about 40-50 hits to that site the night I looked up - and linked - a bunch of information for that "tpdgtt" who may - or may not - have been a troll....

I was very careful to present the topics to her in groups... as in "The Jehovah's Witnesses have a fear/fascination with Satan - they believe he's real..." and then I listed the most paranoid articles on the WTBTS website I could find....

i got this sent to me recently.

its about an earthquake that jw's survived thanks to the wts's instructions on how to prepare.

of course though, all the deaths are not the fault of the earthquake but rather the catholic church for not preparing the people like the wts had the dubs.

Elsewhere, as with the (now much more refined) science of forecasting tornadoes, the scientific community is always working on improving accuracy. Here is a website page with many discussions involving earthquakes (USGS - getting it from 'the horse's mouth', so to speak). From this article: http://www.geophys.washington.edu/SEIS/PNSN/INFO_GENERAL/eq_prediction.html comes this interesting observation, "One well-known successful earthquake prediction was for the Haicheng, China earthquake of 1975, when an evacuation warning was issued the day before a M 7.3 earthquake. In the preceding months changes in land elevation and in ground water levels, widespread reports of peculiar animal behavior, and many foreshocks had led to a lower-level warning. An increase in foreshock activity triggered the evacuation warning. Unfortunately, most earthquakes do not have such obvious precursors." Incidentally, the author of the aforementioned article agrees with your assessment that earthquakes won't ever be 'spot-on' predictable; however, I would like to see a time when we can get a days-to-weeks accurate prediction/warning...

The indicators that enabled the Chinese seismologists to accurately predict that earthquake have not proven reliable for subsequent earthquakes. However, the 'radon gas' emissions technique and a 'radio wave emissions' technique I heard about briefly may prove more reliable - that is, in my opinion, for 'shallow' earthquakes.

Uhm, I was going to try to find reference material for you regarding 'deep' earthquake epicenters versus 'shallow' earthquake epicenters (until seismology developed to a certain point, geologists didn't realize there were occasional devastating earthquakes that originated at GREAT depths within the earth...), BUT!

right now.......and since 1995.....wt has no real teaching to show how close we are to the end......none......most dubs prob dont even know......but wt has always been about dates.....and how close the end is to those dates......but now.....since we unplugged the generation of 1914 to the end of the world.......and now that we are still recruiting the anointed for heaven......the last days can last and last and last......duh...that is why they are called the last days!!

!........and so do they still teach it is "very, very near" (only used one time in wt)....or "imminent" ??

?......just a year ago i think?.......so how close do they say we are now and why?.........damm the bible is soooo clear that nobody knows the day or hour...yet i bet they still say is just around the corner (based on what scripture!?!??!?!?!)..........

Thanks, AllTimeJeff! I never paid that much attention to the dates/beliefs because I was seeing other things/aspects that convinced me to leave. I'm observing so much that's discussed here [on all the boards] as quite an outsider; I just never 'bought' fully into the JW theology and therefore the finer points of scriptural debates often sail right over my head.

Speaking of weird "Questions From the Readers", though, I'll have to start my own little thread about a totally crazy QFR I heard about in the February 2009 (Watchtower ??) Someone brought it to the Arvada meetup and then couldn't find it again to give me a copy - something about JWs no longer allowed to eat FATS - of all things!!!
