  I have hidden status updates from my news feed of JW friends on Fb. Can't stand the 'had a great day in service' or 'doing my pre-study before bed' stuff. Makes me want to barf. So, instead of deleting them, have just hidden them from my news feed...lol.

  AE - There are always talks at assemblies about social networking sites, and I know some elders especially in my area got on Fb just to watch some of the young ones. Didn't take long for the young ones to make their Fb private, and not accept the elders as friends though. It wasn't that long ago that the internet was frowned upon, then it was email and now it's Fb and myspace etc. They think everything is evil.

  what are your consistant compliments

  everyone gets compliments.

  and i was thinking of the compliments that i have received through my adult life.

  and, there are a couple that have remained consistant through-out.. i have been told:.

  Physical compliments: I am told I have beautiful eyes and a wonderful smile and teeth...lol. And that I resemble a famous actress (wont say who, that would give away too much of what I look like...lol).

  Personality: Frequently told I am too naive..lol. Very kind, generous and clever.

  Oh, and that I'm a neat freak! Though, is that a compliment?

  American Pit Bull attacks American jdub in Oz

  this jdub was out walking his two dogs when attacked by a pit bull, killing one of his dogs and causing injuries to his hand.

  he was from texas and now lives in melbourne.

  he comes from a very well known us jw family (uncles, grandparents in brooklyn, other uncles c/o & d/o, w/t life story of family...).

  I heard about this attack..so very sad :( Dogs wandering scare me. I often get scared just walking around my neighbourhood in case dogs are prowling. I was looking out my window other day when a great dane wandered into a neighbours front yard. It spotted her cat lying under the tree and immediately went into attack pose. I thrashed on the window finally grabbing its attention and then started yelling at it and after barking at me, it ran off. Close call for the cat. But imagine if it had been a child, what a scary thought :(

  i sent an email detailing why i am not ok with my kids being with my (in the past) abuser father, and in turn mother (forgiver, hider, fascilitator).

  i also touched on the fact that we do not consider ourselves to be jws, or held to the laws and rules of such, nor do we view the elders or congregation as an authority on us.

  that she could print the email and give it to the elders if she wanted, but it would surely hasten the announcement of our disfellowshipping if she did.

  I'm so sorry for your situation. There are a few others on the board in similar situations I think, hopefully they will reply and you can get to know them a little. I tend to agree with Isaac that it's your husbands guilt causing him to act this way. Hang in there...and I know you'll get some great advice from ones here :)

  for a group that claims not to believe in hell, why do jws fear satan and demons so much?

  a quick search on my 2003 wt cd reveals over 14,000 references just to satan's name..what is the worst thing satan could do to a jw?

  Well, we are taught that Satan is trying to turn us away from Jesus and Jehovah and that Satan is going to die - everlasting destruction, and we along with him if we follow his path ie. 'the world'. It is sheer fear. Other religions have hell, and the inbetween (purgatory?), while witnesses have final destruction. We are taught how evil Satan is and how he wants nothing more than for us to fail Jehovah and turn to him.

  Wow thanks for sharing! It's nice to hear a point of view from someone going for the first time. I think as witnesses, we are so used to how things are done, that we never stop to reflect on it. I thought it was interesting how you mentioned no-one asked the conductor any questions. I had never thought of that before. You'll be interested to know that if you had gone to your first meeting say a year or so ago, they were much longer in duration.

  Will you go again?
