Most Ridiculous Thing You've Ever Been Counseled On

i'm sure topics like this have already come up but they tend to get hilarious with the absolute absurdity that goes on in the kh.

i was once counseled for not shaving after two days.

i was also counseled by a sister for eating lucky charms cereal.

I was counselled at age 13 for my skirt being 'too short'. It sat on the knees. And WHY did that elder approach me alone? Shouldn't he have gone to my dad??? That happened MANY times over the years, with my dad stepping in to tell the elder off for not talking to him first and also to say I was growing and they didn't have enough money to buy me a new one yet.

When I was 18, nosey elders wife telling me again my skirt was too short (it wasn't). This time I slammed it right back in her face 'well if you can afford to buy me a new one, be my guest' and 'while you're at it, do not ever come to me about this again'. She came back with 'go to an op shop, they have cheap clothes'. Next meeting, her husband (an elder) approached me about my attire. I told him where to go, politely. No one ever hassled me again! I was too 'tough' for their liking! LOL!

Funnily, when I had my nose pierced with a nice gold stud, not one elder EVER told me off! Go figure!!!

I have also been counselled over the years about earrings. I have 3 in each ear. Third one at 13...boy did it give me grief - but I never took it out. I also used to wear a ring on each finger and was told off about that, but never took them off. Guess I was always a little rebellious!

yesterday i was sitting here and all of a sudden realized i was humming one of those dreadful songs.

i even remembered the words!

<chills>.. so i sat here and started singing other songs out loud, which i normally don't do even though i live alone and don't have to listen to people begging me to stop singing.. so how do you get those songs out of your head?.

Hahaha yesterday I found myself singing 'here I am send me'...lol! As soon as I realised, I stopped but it's funny how like any other song, they just pop into your head when you least expect it. Having been a witness so long means it will probably happen alot more too!

i just can't win!

about a year ago when i began to have doubts i talked to one of my old friends about what i was feeling.

her and her husband actually did a ton of research and left the organization quietly and quickly.

I can relate to the 'debauched' life line. When I expressed my desire to stop being a witness last year, my mother immediately chucked it at me saying 'ok fine go sleep with whoever you want then'. I had thought nothing of the sort! That made me cry because never in my heart had I had such a desire. I just wanted 'freedom' in a way she obviously didn't understand given she's a witness.

I do however think it was good of your dad, in a way, to give you a heads up. And kind of nice that he at least said to do the 'falling out' fade bit. Given his experience as an elder, and probably not wanting you disfellowshipped, he knows the ropes so to speak. Having a disfellowshipped family member is kind of like a marking too. Witnesses try to justify why it happened. Like 'oh his dad was an elder and too busy to inculcate him' or 'his family was never strict enough' etc. They can never just let sleeping dogs lie. They always have to have a reason for why someone has done something.

i've stated this before on this message board but i was kind of curious about this and wanted to get some feedback from the group.

in particular, the ladies who are either current or former jw's.. about a year or so ago, my wife went with me to a church i was attending at the time.

we then later that morning attended a kh meeting.

his most recent video is a satirical expose of the most recent generation doctrine change.

This might actually be relevant, so I'll say it before I forget...lol. My dad usually gets the conventions on videotape after it's done it rounds of the congregation, as he can't make it to assemblies. This year, for the first time, he's been told that due to copyright, they can no longer do it. So it seems to be they're cracking down in a big way trying to stop infringement. But I don't think they're doing it for those reasons. I believe they're doing it in case of repercussions and people getting a hold of it and critiquing. They're just hiding behind the banner of copyright infringement.

Huh? Couldn't play the video, said my country had blocked it or something...lol. Read the Wiki article, but didn't see anything about him being a witness. Was he?

Thundaar....I know here that if you don't get one months prior, they're few and far between to get a hold of. I like the suggestion of turning a program into a badge.

What does a 10-year-old "minister" say about a religion?

I got baptised at 16 but first asked to do so at age 8 ! I was turned down only because at that point I hadn't studied a book the way through with my parents. I remember being so let down and gutted over it. I wanted SO badly to please my dad. But looking back, that's the ONLY reason I was doing it. Even at 16, I just wanted to make my dad proud. I wish to God I'd never done it...then I wouldn't be so fearful of getting out now and the possibility of my parents disowning me.

Feeling really sad

my husband and i have been married for almost 10 years.

we were married really young, and tried to make the best of it.

recently, i began listening to my lingering doubts and realized i've been so unhappy because i was living a lie.

((Hugs)) to you...I faced similar years ago. First he had doubts, and I shut him down. Then I had doubts and he shut me down...lol. Then he left me and the kids. Unfortunately for us, as is with SO many witness marriages, we had NOTHING in common besides the truth when we married. So when we both had doubts, at different times, we felt like we were fighting each other and had nothing else to talk about. He was a poor communicator anyway, so that didn't help when I wanted to talk the general problems of our marriage out.

You've left he seed of doubt in his mind, so it will take time for him to completely let go of his faith, especially if it's all he's ever known. But in time he may come to his senses. If not, and you can both come to an understanding about your marriage and the love you share, then you will probably stay together, albeit as different faiths.

I'd suggest spending more family time together, going on outings on the weekend etc, especially as he sounds almost inactive anyway and 'spiritually weak'. Get to know one another again x
