I remember a jw friend that said because her sister didn't attend meetings then it means shes doing something that she shouldn't and is embarrassed to go back to meetings. That was drilled into her head since she grew up in the religion.

Interesting Thought about JW's and People Outside the Org
by Mrs. Witness inon another thread, aude sapeare said:.
jws make this huge assumption that once you leave the 'protection' of the org, you will go off the deep end and become totally irresponsible, drink, smoke, do drugs and have sex with anyone and anything.. that is what i have been fighting with my husband about for 3 years now.
when he was kicked out of his jw's mom's house when he was 15, that is exactly what he did for about 20 years.

I couldn't face going
by cantleave ini was suspossed to go to the meeting today, gotta to keep up the pretense in order to facillitate my fade.
instead i had nice lie in, i visited my non-witness dad, and then met up with my first aspostate from this site mr. majestic.. i didn't want to go to the meeting because meetings make me angry, i can now see the techniques used to control the congregation by fear.
i can't stand the thought that so many good people are being fed a banquet of lies and deception.. i could so easily never attend again..

My husband and I did not fade, we stopped cold turkey. No elder meetings, no visits of 'encouragement' nothing! Every congregation is different, and I think it can depend on how often the people are out in your area preaching. The area we live in is seldom worked and they certainly aren't going to drive to see us during non-service time. Its been just about a year now and the elders don't have one idea as to why we dont go. It also helped that we never got close to people at the hall and never got together to do things. So how can they miss us if we were never really part of their club?? One thing is sure, once you stop going you won't ever ever want to go back. On what used to be meeting nights, I enjoy knowing that I'm not there!

Sisters crying in the kitchen/lobby
by highdose inyears ago i was at the revamp of a kingdom hall.
one of the sisters told me that since they got rid of the kitchen it was so much better, becuase there were always sisters out there crying!
and now they have no place to go, so they just have to stay in the hall and listen to the meeting!.

I remember when I got baptized and another girl that was near my changing room couldn't stop bawling about it. I didn't shed a tear. Strange.

I have finally figured ot how a lot of JWs gain more members besides having more kids...
by cognac ini've noticed that when a bible study is conducted, when worldly people have questions a lot of jws say that there question is covered later in the book.
that way, the worldlys get stopped in there tracks all the while feeling like there questions are getting answered while the assimilation takes place.. they either forget there question or the book tells them what the answer is without either giving them biblical proof or twisting scriptures.
i've noticed a lot of paragraphs in books just telling people what the answer is without scriptures or saying something like, "surely it would make sense that...".

I agree with Misfitme. when i was 18, I was confused and not sure what to do with my life and the jw's answers to my questions sounded great and I was to naive and believed everything they said. I didn't have much biblical knowledge so any answer to my questions sounded truthful enough to me. I was a baptized memeber for 5 years, and during that time I noticed how if a bible study or anyone you met at the door and the person asked about lets say the topic is hellfire or heaven or the trinity, then you were supposed to somehow get off that topic and switch it to a topic that you both agree on such as Jesus being Gods son or something or the bible being inspired by God. The whole point was to get that person agreeing with what you say and putting his 'real' questions on a back shelf and and if the person continues to study long enough and gets baptized then that person can't question the watchtowers view on who goes to heaven because then they will have the fear of being disfellowshipped or something.
I think its easier for someone who wasn't born in the religion to see the real truth of how the mind games work then for someone who was born in the religion. . Just like an animal stuck in a cage all its life, that is all the animal knows. Its boundaries and nothing beyond that. I'm not saying all born ins are like that but it seems harder for a born in to leave and question because of only knowing the watchtower and nothing beyone. Its hard to leave ones comfort zone. It was easy for me to leave after figuring out how things really are and plus I had absolutely no family there and I quicky realized people who I thought were my friends weren't so it was easy to leave it all behind.

Is it alowed to watch / read Harry Potter movies (books) in your area?....
by Albert Einstein inis it alowed to watch / read harry potter movies (books) in your area?.
in my country (eastern europe) it is viewed mostly as "unexemplary" , although many kids have harry potter dvds at home, but nobody talks about it .... at circuit assembly one speaker warned, that "some might be tempted to watch a movie, with a little witch .... (of course it is very dangerous and we must stay away!!!)".
when i started my departure several months ago, i made sure my son has all movies on dvd and i openly talk about it with dubs who visit our home - how nice the movies are - ... nobody so far dared to react.... albert .

the k.hall we went to (united states) openly said at the platform that harry potter was from satan and several people talked openly how evil they are. I also remember it being talked about at assemblys. I didn't watch them when I was going to the k.hall because we weren't supposed too, husband secretly watched them and when I was feeling rebellious I secretly watched them. Now, since being done with the jw's I saw all the movies and am presently reading one of the books. I LOVE Harry potter and don't see whats so evil about it.

I had a witness friend that always prayed to keep herself protected from the demons. My husbands mom is always talking about how the demons are out to get you and a person has to keep the light on at night to keep the demons away. haha.. I told her she is more afraid of demons then she is confident in her Gods protection.

I have close to 200 animals because I love them so much. When I was a witness I was told by several witnesses that I shouldn't have all the animals (detracts time from them and studying) and they talked behind my husbands and my back as being 'materialistic' for having so many animals. We take good care of our animals and we have seen witnesses who have 2 pets who cant take care of them. Not Once was a talk given about taken proper care of your animals. I always thought when the bible says a persons desires will be satisfied in the 'new world' then it could mean my animals that died God would bring back to life for me. Never say that to a witness. They will tell you animals don't get a resurrection because they can't think and don't serve God. The witnesses didn't even like to come to our house to see the different animals we have. They didn't care!! When I would get a new exotic animal, I couldn't even tell the people whom I thought were my friends because they would frown upon it. I am proud of owning a pet skunk! And a pig! And sheep! And peacocks! And swans!....and all my other animals. and no, I do not eat animals. I am a vegetarian!

"My Book of Bible Stories" returned for being "too violent for kids." You Agree?
by Witness 007 inobviously a book written for kids by old dumb morons at bethel the book starts with abels murder {with pictures for the kids} people begging to get into the ark before drowning to death...a good lesson for kiddies!
a women putting a tent peg thru someones temple {with pictures} moses killing an egyptian.
etc a horrified atheist lady returned the books my mother gave as "gifts" {count 2 placements} after seeing the horrific topics, she decided it was "not apropriate for her kids.".

When I used to read that book to my neice when she was 6 she used to be sad about the picture of the babies dying in the flood story. I didn't know how to really answer her why babies died too because she said the adults didn't listen not the babies.
