Question for JW Lurkers: Did Jesus Pray Using the Name "Jehovah"?
by cabasilas ina listing of prayers by jesus in the new testament can be found at this site:.
http://www.praylikethis.org.uk/theprayersofjesus.html.
(i can't say that the list is exhaustive, but i think it is at least representative.).

I don't know about you guys, but I do not address my Earthly Father by his first name so why the heck would I address my Heavenly Father using his first name? And isn't 'Heavenly Father' a name in and of itself? After all, there is only one! This has always confounded me about the JWs. (And then we could debate the personal name of our Heavenly father as well... Yahweh seems the most accurate to me).

I took Tai Chi a few years back and my father told me I shouldn't do that because they worship false idols as well as bowing to each other being a form of worship. I told him it was not worship but how they showed respect and said thank you... and that we did not have any false idols in class. He still did not approve. Oh well. I didnt' quit and finished the class. It was fun!

My friend made an interesting observation and wanted me to share, very interesting.
by awildflower inthis is not mine, but my friend e-mailed it to me this morning and i thought it would be great to share........i was thinking about this laying in bed this morning.
have you ever looked at one of those optical illusion pictures such as the one below.

Yes. Excellent observations. I have often thought these very things about the WTS. Many times as a child/teen I was struck with "that's not what I think that means." This is one of the reasons I never signed up.
Stephen Covey uses this exact picture on page 26 in his book "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" under a section entitled "The Power of a Paradigm", where he explains the need to understand our present 'paradigm' (mapping or modelling) in order for us to make a 'paradigm shift' or change in our present mapping.
from pg 28: "I first encountered this exercise many years ago at the Harvard Business School. The instructor was using it to demonstrate clearly and eloquently that two people can see the same thing, disagree, and yet both be right. It's not logical; its psychological. ... I frequently use this perception demonstration in working with people and organizations because it yields so many deep insights into both personal and interpersonal effectiveness. It shows, first of all, how powerfully conditioning affects our preceptions, our paradigms. ... Each of us tends to think we see things as they are, that we are objective. But this is not the case. We see the world, not as it is, but as we are -- or, as we are conditioned to see it."
If you haven't read this book, I highly recommend it.

I like the cold. Can't take the heat. Glad to be Canadian!
Where I live it's been sunny and cloudy today. Not too much rain. I managed to get the grass cut! (Yesterday it was too wet) Even though it's been rainy this week, it's still beautiful. It's perfect for yanking weeds and all the lawns are green, as are the trees. So many birds and animals too. Chippy (the Chipmunk) has been visiting with us.
Happy Canada Day, Everyone!

I think he is. The young ones are leaving the WTS in droves. Sounds like he's speeding things up there.

What are the Major Issues with Jehovah's Witnesses?
by AllTimeJeff init's safe to say that in most instances, it appears that the catalyst for the final move away from jw's, the real start of a road toward a jw exit, is something that affected you personally, whether that was you or a loved one/family member.
we hit our personal bs level, can't take it anymore,.
then we start to examine the flaws of jw dogma.. i would suggest that most do not start a jw exit because they examine the dogma on a personal study project and find out that something isn't right.

passwordprotected said: Simply, the teachings of the Organisation did not stack up against the Bible.
I saw this pretty much right off when I was a kid. Many times I did not agree with the WTS interpretations. And then the kicker for me was them trying to subjugate me. Not gonna happen with this woman. Ever!
Once I left home to go to college and then get my job, I was pretty much released from the day to day hounding of signing up. Of course I would always turn it back on them. Any time my parents would try to push us I would bring up things they couldn't answer. "Why don't you go out on service Mom? Why aren't you baptized? Oh, you smoke. Well I think you need to focus on that first." The contradictions continued and as far as I'm concerned, if it isn't clear, I ignore it. My parents have never been able to answer my questions.
I just couldn't see the validity in anything they were teaching. It simply isn't there.
On this Forum, I have read so many heart breaking stories of peoples' experiences in this cult. I think I am one of the lucky ones.
