  Subjugation of Women

  this area bothered me even more than the ban on college.

  i was born a feminist, popped out that way.

  before the women's movement, i hated their attitude of hating women.

  The society is institutionallly sexist as is the congregation hierachy. It is assumed the brother is in charge regardless of the task at hand, and he usually is. The subjugation of women and the view of the woman as second class - sorry, 'a weaker vessel', is part of the religion's fabric. It's demeaning, degrading and insulting: wearing a headscarf to translate a brother's words?, a mature Christian Woman having to show subjection and let a 9 year boy say a prayer at the meeting for field service beacuse he got baptised - even if he is her son? Disgusting.

  However also, any man not in possession of or reaching out for 'privledges' is viewed as weak and worthless too.

  wendy tucker was put on public reproof at 13 years old for rebelling against her jehovah's witness upbringing.

  she alledges her jw elder father beat her terribly, actually breaking her nose for not wanting to follow the dictates of the watchtower organization.

  he destroyed and threw out practically everything she owned as a young girl and he physically abused her to the point that the state of florida took her into custody at age 14.wendy's early years growing up in a jehovah's witness family is a constant reminder of how unloving jw parents can be to their own children wendy is now speaking out about how evil and cruel the watchtower organization is...... she is our guest on the six screens of the watchtower conference call sat.

  i spoke with an elder about university

  he always tells me that i've adopted him as a father...we're pretty close.

  i spoke with him asking for some advice about whether or not to pursue my degree.he, to my surprise, couldn't give me his opinion.he told me that if he tells me how he really feels (he says he has some strong views on the matter) he may be disciplined for 'promoting higher education'....in effect he was telling me to go ahead and pursue my degree but not really saying it.

  he asked me to promise him that i'll speak to the presiding overseer and the circuit overseer....i haven't as yet.

  I only know one JW who agrees with the societys ban of decent education. He's a 60+ elduh who has a huge inferiority complex towards any educated person. Every other JW I talk to makes excuses along the lines of either; the society doesnt really mean it, it's the personal opinion of the latest CO (funny how they all have the same opinion); what the society really means is 'don't leave home and live at university' or my personal favourite, 'the society is much more balanced than the brothers giving the talks are since they are always asking for Drs, lawyers and engineers to go to bethel...'

  No witness I know apart from the above elduh actually agrees with the ban

  Which generation do you belong to ?

  ask a witness which generation do you belong to and see if they really know how to answer.. i have decided that every time i hear a true definition of the meaning of a generation i will post it here just to reinforce the true meaning just in case a stray jw happens to look in on here.. yesterday evening i was watching an antiques programme on the television and under discussion was a very well made baby high chair from about the nineteen thirties and the approximate date of manufacture and the length of time it had been in the family.

  the expert then went on to confim how old it was and in doing so said that considering who first purchased the chair and the length of a generation that it was from the thirties and went on to say that we consider a generation to be about 25 years.. that is a truer definition of a generation than a watchtower definition.. .

  The New Vocabulary of a Free Mind

  i have always classified myself as someone who was fairly well read, with a pretty decent vocabulary.

  but having been raised in the orwellian "loaded language" of "truthspeak", i found over the past 18 or so months that there is a whole vocabulary out there that i was never exposed to, thanks in part to the wts exquisite information control techniques.

  here's a sample of some of the words i had never even heard of before my "awakening":.

  The very fact that JW interpretation of prophecy can be neatly categorised into an interpretive framework of Christian eschatology shocked me as an awakening JW.

  so: Eschatology - study of end times; Preterism, Amillennialism, Historicism etc...

  JW ideas fit roughly within Dispensational Millenialism with a continuous pre to post trib rapture.

  I'm in a pretty dark place...

  i know many of you have felt this way but it still hurts.. i was doing fine, great actually but then all of the sudden a huge wave of pain hit my body out of the blue.

  man its so hard living this life, always pretending, except when you're alone.

  i feel like its eating me from the inside.. so many times i want to just give up, on both sides.

  The Searcher, you're right many active Witnesses do feel that something is not quite right at the moment, and they are sitting tight and enduring. Of course, they're not actually allowed to express what they think is wrong to each other for fear of apostacy charges, so they continue to sit tight. And endure. Alone.

  Maybe, just maybe, it's not God's organisation...

  LAST CALL: Give a piece of advice to JW's going into the New Year

  here is my advice to jehovah's witnesses everywhere.. .

  it is okay to treat each day as if it were your last if it makes you more grateful, humble and kind.. but, if it becomes your excuse for neglecting your life, your sense of charity, your education and your humanity---then, shut the hell up about end times and make a new beginning.. start with here and now....today....improving this world any way you can.

  stop thinking of everybody else as some kind of "enemy" that deserves to die if they don't read your magazine.. the sooner you comprehend that your truth is just another opinion the better off you'll be.. oh, and try loving people who don't think the same way you do.. start with those brothers and sisters you've been turning your back on.
