Sweetheart, I'm phrasing this as gently as possible, yes it is. It's their game, played by their rules.
If you're not infirm, and you're only getting 1 or 2 hours a month in the ministry they will delete you asap.The only "appointed men" who can get away with doing next to no service is the governing body.

I may be guilty of childish, binary thinking here, but objectively, either the events as described in the Bible happened, or they did not.
The excluded middle does not apply here.
There may be many things from the bible we can learn about the wisdom of the ancients, debates on the nature of 'God', but at some point you have to let the narrative stand alone.
I have come to to the conclusion that the Bible is not - what did we used to say - "Reliable History - Accurate Prophecy".
We might as well use Grimms fairy tales for moral guidance, they're just as sexist but slightly less homophobic.

But without the hysteria over the hole in the ozone layer in the 80's, would adequate measures have been undertaken to stop that form of environmental damage? I doubt it.
People sell doomsday scenarios to get research money. The media report the outside chance, worst possible case, because it sells more papers than the balanced view of reporting actual findings. BUT this is countered by the vast sums the oil companies are spending to research anything that makes 'their side' look good.
What is true is climate change is happening. CO2 levels are rising, the effect of which may be mitigated by the global dimming phenomena.

it was banging on about listening to the holy spirit (a good thing if you believe in it), and then they used these sickifying words:.

The society tries to make anyone who doesn't 'understand' their doctrines feel inadequate. You're told that you need to study the deep things of God, to 'put it in prayer', to rely on the Organisation for understanding etc.
Basically if you have a question you cant resolve after these steps, the society says, 'you're too stupid to understand', 'you're spiritually weak, since God isnt answering your prayer', and 'you're rebellious'. So if they can't answer a question, you are stupid, worldly and a rebel.
For all the lurkers who are questioning various doctrines like 1914, blood fractions, overlapping generations, prophectic application of everything in Isaiah and Revelation to 1919 and Cedar Point Ohio, I offer this phrase to ponder:

i'm just curious as to whether any of my fellow brits ever pondered how the society can be so stupid as to insist using the us drama tapes at uk conventions rather than having them re-recorded in a british accent?.
as all of us brits know, the convention drama is a subject of subdued derision among uk publishers - and i've been to many a party or social gathering where, at some point, somebody whose had a little too much coke re-enacts a scene from a drama mockingly (typically by gesturing wildly into the air and saying "jer-ho-vah gaaard!!
" in an over-the-top american accent).. what the society clearly doesn't understand is that the dramas really lose their emotional impact with british audiences when performed in an american accent by amateurs.
Oh I used to love the American dramas at Twickenham!

i have to admit, i have made it a bit of a habit in the last few weeks to find myself in the local starbucks right about the time that i know the service groups will be stopping for a "quick" break, which usually goes on for about 30 minutes.. as i am not da or df, i make a note to say good morning to them and show them how nice and relaxed i am sitting, slowly enjoying my coffee.
i even make a point to invite them to sit down with me, knowing that it will eat up a bit more of their time.
never a "theocratic" discussion, only about local happenings usually, talking about workouts (i am normally in gym clothes since i was either at the gym or going to the gym after coffee), or just discussing plans for the weekend.
Good for you, I think that's a great way to handle it - just be being normal, in gym clothes, drinking coffee, you demonstrate that there is life after the org! By being relaxed and happy you can show that there may be a better life after leaving.
