"We're just here to encourage Bible reading."
God forgive me for how many times I said that lie.
as a jw i was always taught "never to get into debate or argue with householders.".
you know what is interesting about that?.
the message i had when i went to your door was essentially "hello, what ever your current belief is... is wrong.
"We're just here to encourage Bible reading."
God forgive me for how many times I said that lie.
to the household of god, israel, and those who go with... may you have peace!.
as you know i have, for many years now, related to you that i hear the voice of the fine shepherd, the holy one of israel and holy spirit, jaheshua mischajah.
over such years i have received many questions and comments, and engaged in various debates regarding the validity of that name.
Yes, for some, it really REALLY does and for THOSE, yes, it matters that they use what they believe to be the right one.
Certainly - I agree with you here.
However the original issue that has been presented in this thread is that only by pronouncing Christ's name as JAHESHUA can one expect to have a hearing from Heaven and even be saved from the broad road of destruction. Even if the phonetics are correct, such a view presents a darkened concept of the Name and what it represents in as much as it limits the power of the Holy One and more importantly the immense love that the Name represents.
To put it plainly Christ is not turning away from you until you say his name in correct, period-perfect, ancient Hebrew nor is your salvation being judged on that basis. Trust in his in love and respond in faith to that. I pray that no one will be mislead otherwise.

A name is not simply a grouping of sounds it is a person's nature, character, and authority. When Christ was on earth many individuals shared his very common name yet his Name alone was elevated above all others. As an english speaking American from the Midwest I have known him as Jesus and he calls me by name. I have personally witnessed unclean spirits submit to the authority of the Name of Jesus. His Name is powerful, again not the specific arrangement of sounds as if this was some magic word but as an appeal to authority of the one behind name who has been given authority over all in heaven and earth. Knowing the correct pronunciation of the name is not some secret password to get through the door to the path of life. What is important is knowing the person, his nature, character, and authority.

@JeffT - have you ever participated in National Novel Writing Month? It is coming up in November. The goal is to churn out a 50k word first-draft. It is a little step up from 500 words a day. Check it out at nanowrimo.org.

spiritual upbuilding..... have you entered into gods rest?
(heb 4:10, 11) all were encouraged to cease dead works (heb 6:1).
self-evaluation: ...ask yourself how you would react to counsel regarding personal lifestyle?
Parents are encouraged to give a little but to leave the DFd child desiring for more while promoting their actions as motivate by their love for Jah. The end result is hope that the DFd child in wanting full access to the abundant love of his parents willl also begin to see his losses in not having a relationship with Jehovah and seek reinstatement.
This is a softening of the previous stance in my opinion. When it says "give a little" it is different than the written rules that pretty much don't allow parents to give their children the time of day. Also when it says the child will want "full access to the abundant love of his parents" it implies that they will be allowed to show some degree of love to their DF'd children which again is opposite to the rather cold businesslike stance they are required to take at present.
anyone have a good read of the ypa article on homosexuality?.
is it just me or is the doctrine becoming more lenient and less dogmatic?.
I recall that the aging Reasoning Book did not dismiss the possibility that homosexuality could be a birth orientation. I believe the comparison was made to children that were born predisposed toward alcoholism.
I remember that the literature in the past couple of decades was more delicate toward practicers of homosexuality which conflicted with scathing and mocking statements that were occasionally made from the platform regardings those that practiced homosexuality.
my first effort "armageddon's disciples" is being considered by a publisher, i'll let you know if anything happens.. in the meantime i'm noodling around with what to do next.. i have an idea, but i'm curious if you guys think one of my plot points is realistic.
the antagonist is going to be a guy moving through jw circles, moving from congo to congo every two or three years.
not an elder, mabye an ms, turns in his 10-15 hours consistently, never causes trouble, not married, maybe a little odd as he's kind of a loner.. the plot point is that he's pretty much a cipher, no one pays much attention to him.
Could he have work that requires him to move from area to area?
Could he be moving to help out where the need is great? As a pioneer? As an MS in foreign language cong short on brothers?
Is he distressed about events at his current congregation and has a "grass is greener" mentality as he moves from cong to cong? (This usually is quite workable in JW-land where the new elders will readily accept that all the other halls have issues and believe they are the mecca for the opressed.)
newsmaxs magazine just published an article that the watchtower is the most read magazine out there it evens surpasses time.. i have never heard of newmaxs but i just was emailed this and thought you might find it interesting.
i am sorry i do not know how to give the link so i am cutting and pasting.
if someone can do the link it would be great.
I think it would be a riot if they had a JW on that "Hoarders" television program and you go into their house and it is wall to wall back-issues with little narrow walking paths running to the rooms.
there's a few posts where the term "conscious class" has been in just recently.. i'm wondering if it means the same to most jws and exjws who post here.. what does the "conscious class" mean to you?.
ok, no funny business about 'being conscious' as in awake and fully cafeinated.. if you could answer the two questions it may help some here to understand what.
this term is a lot better.
I guess the designation could be quite broad and ecompass a lot of Jehovah's Witnesses beyond what some might see as closet apostates. There may some that don't believe in general but simply go through the motions for the sake of family. There may be some in authority that don't agree with all of the organizational practices but accept the teachings. Maybe some elderly ones don't fully accept some of the newer teachings or are aware of the lack of love but still believe in the Organization.
Personally I don't think such a stand is maintanable without sacrificing personal integrity along the way. For instance if I didn't believe in 1914 could I in good conscience teach such from the platform or at the door? Yet to stay in good standing in the congregation it is impossible to "opt out". The Organization is structured in such a way that it is absolutely required that you support all the practices and all of the teachings with little wiggle room so long as you maintain close contact with the congregation. Staying practically requires one to lie and lead a double-life. I don't see how such a stand could work for individuals who value honesty and the truth.
