Hi guys,
Excuse me for taking a different stand here, but what is the deal with everyone attacking Maynard and putting him down?
I know I am new to the board, but let me give you my opinion, so you can see how it looks with fresh eyes.
Maynard has started with thread with his opinion, which was done in a none confrontational and adult manner. Posters then reply by shooting down his views with calling him delusional and saying his viewpoint is a heap of crap.
I was talking to someone in chat last night who was a newbie and said that there was so much anger and bitterness on this board, that the apostates are playing right into the pigeonhole that JW's have created for them.
There is a much better way to argue someones point people, it's called constructiveness. I understand if you would be like this over issues as sensitive as child molestation, it is easy to become enraged on issues such as this. But this issue? Can't you respond in a manner that will not offend the poster personaly?
When I first came to this board, it helped me alot in breaking the chains of JW slavery, but now I am starting to wonder whether I should visit at all, anyone with any contradictory stands, even if they are presented in an adult manner are instantly mocked in a childish attack on their personality.
Sounds like some other people I know
Thank You

What does the average Witness know?
by Grunt ini have to wonder what the average witness today knows?
i guess they are under orders not to talk to anyone that might actually be able to inform them of any facts that are negative or unflattering to the society, but what have they found out anyway, through whatever means, even the publications?.
1. do they know that russell got a lot of dates from the measurements of pyramids, including 1914?

Sirona,
. That the New World Translation is the most accurate translation of the bible in the world. In actual fact, it is laughed at by the scholars and the people who translated it have changed things to match their 'theology'
Do you have any examples where I would find information of scholars who have documented this? I would really appreciate it, I have a freind who said that "Scholars even say, it's the most accurately translated bible in the world". I'd like to show this person where it says otherwise.

THESE ARE THE SIGNS OF THE LAST DAYS
by In_between_days ini was talking to a reletive lately (j.w), and we had quite a discussion about my problems with the w.t - child abuse, u.n and other various scandals.. this person informed me that this proves that we are in the last days, because if people believe that there are things wrong with the organisation they will leave and many will discredit it, showing that jehovah is weeding out the goats.
when i asked "why would jehovah allow his organisation to do things like this"?.
he replied: "it cant be a totally good and perfect organisation, or else people will be flocking to it, what would be the point in having the test for people?".

No, this person is definately not new
When I replied to his statemnents about why the organisation HAS to have things wrong with it, I said "What the hell is the difference between this religion and any other then, if you think hypocrisy within the org is o.k?
He replied; "The only thing I know is once you really get to know Jehovah, you will know this is his organisation"

Life Uncommon by Jewel - have u heard it?
by Beck_Melbourne ini heard this song called life uncommon by jewel...it describes how i feel about my exit from the borg, and leaving my jw mother, sister, friends etc.
just reading the words isn't quite the same as hearing the song, so if you get a chance to download the mp3, please tell me what you think.
cheers.

Hi Beck,
Since you are Australian, you may know the song I relate to leaving....
The fantastic Brissie based band "George" and the title is:
"Special Ones"
(THINK OF THE G.B WHILE READING)
is'nt it funny how you never really screamed at my face
but your anger so unspoken and unchannelled permeates my essence
to the point where i dont want to see you hear you, be anywhere near you
you probably think im threatened by you but your illusionary power does'nt threaten me
actually i think it's kind of funny that you create an illusion that is a mirror
i dont appreciate you and i know that that surprises you
i suppose you think that those who follow their heart always win
those with integrity have won the fight before it's begunso rather than being kicked around, i'm going to kick you to the curb
so rather than being pushed around, im going to push you away first
so rather than trying to protect you, i'm going to to cover my bases first
so rather than trying to open my heart, i'm going to lock it with a key so that only the special ones can ever get through to me.Some can see beyond the barrier of threshold
whereas others can't see beyond their sculptured mould
you could offer me nothing, you could offer me nothing that i need
do you think i'm asking too much?
a kind of respect and trust that should never be questioned
how can i open my heart with dishonesty sitting next to me?
i've honored your honor to the point of embarrassment
but innocence in the hands of the guilt free is kicked to the curb,
i was ashamed of my innocence
but now i see that your bullshit is just not worthy of mei don't want to be angry....
this is not worthy of me and now with clarity i see that i can walk away,I CAN WALK AWAY....
very inspiring, a great song.
This is kind of a good idea for a thread, "Songs that remind you of the borg"
We could have a kind of virtual camp fire sing - a - long!!

I was talking to a reletive lately (J.W), and we had quite a discussion about my problems with the W.T - child abuse, U.N and other various scandals.

um..... o.k
Has anyone else had this reasoning from a Jw before, and does anyone know of any scriptures that would contradict this statement?

Respect
by In_between_days ini'd like to share with you all a personal experience that i had recently.. i had told a freind about the u.n issue (j.w) and she said to let her know when i got my answer from the governing body about why they joined.. she asked about it, i did not bring it up, and i showed her their response (the standard explanation from brooklyn which you have all seen.).
we then got into a very interesting conversation.. she agreed with me that the explanation was very unacceptable, she did not even try to argue it.. she even accepted that it was wrong of the w.t to do this - i was very surprised.
we got into talking about the governing body, and my problems with it, and she surprised me further when she said that she does not believe that the governing body should be followed or held in as high regard as god or jesus.. she believes that god works through this organisation, but thinks that there are so many problems with j.w's never questioning their stands or logic.

It certainly is extremely refreshing to meet a level headed JW.
Let me ask you all one thing though - do you think her attitude would be approved of by elders and other authoritive figures in the organisation? I think not.
One thing you NEVER hear at meetings is "Think for yourself" - if someone says this, is is cause for counseling? Has anyone experienced any counseling on this matter?
My friend stated that she thinks it is ridiculous that most JW's believe that they will be the only ones to survive the great tribulation.
She also said I could talk to her about ANYTHING I have problems with, she does'nt care what it is. She also did not mention the words "apostate literature" once. (wow)
What are your thoughts on her opinion and how it wouldd be treated within the org?

Hi everyone,
I'd like to share with you all a personal experience that I had recently.
I had told a freind about the U.N issue (J.W) and she said to let her know when I got my answer from the governing body about why they joined.
She asked about it, I did not bring it up, and I showed her their response (the standard explanation from Brooklyn which you have all seen.)
We then got into a very interesting conversation.
She agreed with me that the explanation was very unacceptable, she did not even try to argue it.
She even accepted that it was wrong of the W.T to do this - I was very surprised. We got into talking about the Governing Body, and my problems with it, and she surprised me further when she said that she does not believe that the Governing Body should be followed or held in as high regard as god or jesus.
She believes that god works through this organisation, but thinks that there are so many problems with J.W's never questioning their stands or logic. She believes that they have made many, many mistakes which the bible said this organisation was going to do. (where the scripture is for this I have no idea.)
In the end, she sais, she is in this organisation, because she feels that it is between her and god. In the end, anything that is man made does not really come into place with her relationship. She does not agree with many of the stringent rules involved in being a J.W.
When she was growing up whe was taught by her mother (also a J.W- but has now left, and is strongly opposed) to question everything, to think for ones self, always. She beleives in this, she says. She has come accross so much opposition in her time, that has only made her stronger. In the end, she sais, she only cares about god, and does not dwell so much on Jehovahs Witnesses as an organisation.
She completely understands why I do not continue to want to be a JW.
I thought this was incredibly cool and impressive, to come from the mouth of a JW - I respect her so much more for this stand and view she has taken. I have never come accross a Jw so diplomatic in my life, I told her, if only they were all like you.
It is so different to the opposition that I have come accross with my family over the U.N issue, it is met with yelling and anger and then refusal to talk about it. I so much more respect this reaction than any other I have ever heard, I told her she is one in a hundred J.W's and now, I totally accept her stand and beleifs.
If only all J.W's could be like this, make it a personal stand with themselves and god rather than the organisation.
I really respect this, it made such an impact on me that I really wanted to share it.
A diamond in the rough.

BEFORE YOU LEFT......
by In_between_days inanother question.. this one is for all those that began doubting the organisation when they were an obedient jw.. although i am sure you rarely shared it with anyone, what was the one problem you had with a certain jw only doctrine?.
what i mean is, what little gremlins lurked at the back of your mind?
what were the doubts that you kept hidden and what made you finally act on them?.

Thanks so much everyone for your replys, they are very helpful to me.
I also had a problem with the 144,000, I discussed this recently with a JW and they had absloutely no way to explain why the scriptures said that the ones were "Virgins, undefiled by women".
Does anyone actually have a theory about what this scripture actually means? Perhaps we are not supposed to know, it is quite cryptic, I really would'nt try to dissect it at all, if I were a JW.Their interpretaion is too easily refuted, dont you think?
Simon and a few others stated that they did not agree with the dinosaur theory, forgive my ignorance but I forget totally what JW's used to say about the dinosaurs, can someone fill me in?
Thanks
