If you could choose one book to suggest to a JW...
by SweetBabyCheezits ini'm sure this isn't an uncommon question but i'll ask anyway.. suppose you had the chance to suggest one book, essay, article, or other writing with the goal of helping a loved one wake up... which one would it be?.
bear in mind the goal is to subvert the programmed hair-trigger defenses that cause a complete shutdown of critical thinking.
this automatically excludes anything that would directly place the wt society or its history in a negative light.

I need a show of hands: who believes the Bible and to what extent?
by Terry ini'll start off.. i don't believe anything is divine about bible writings.
i believe there may be some marginal history although not much.
i think alot of folk tales and regional myths are contained in the old testament.

typical witnesses !!!
by warmasasunned ina friend of mine x jw like myself, works as a window cleaner on a road where a family of active jws live.
he watched a situation develop over a say a year were they started a bible study with a local neighbour and eventually he became a jw himself.. now this fella was a bit of a odd bod, looked odd, dressed odd, generally made people feel a little uncomfortable, but not a bad person lets use an often used phrase in england "an eccentric".. well of course he showed a little bit of interest, pherhaps he was lonely.
well of course he was really fussed over by is local jw neighbours, bible study,.

well of course he showed a little bit of interest, pherhaps he was lonely. well of course he was really fussed over by is local jw neighbours, bible study,. invited round for tea, taken to the meetings.
even my friend x jw said "you really saw a change in him, he looked really normal" (whatever that is")
of course once he was baptised the loving witnesses started to back off, they started to talk to him on there door step not inviting him in, then eventually they would talk to him through a closed window.
then this week my friend turned up on the street to do his window round and the jws are moving out.
so he approaches the so called "brother" and asks why he's moving out (he fell away not df)
"oh we can't put up with being bothered all the time by the brother up the road, he's always coming round, he's got to find his own spiritual feet"
my friend smiled to himself an thought "typical witnesess !!!"

You ever go through extended moments where nothing satisfies you, to the point you wouldn't mind dying?
by miseryloveselders indon't get me wrong, this isn't a call for help or anything like that.
i'm not about to do anything stupid, just feeling a little down and exhausted tonight.
i feel defeated, even though i don't feel as if i'm battling anything.

its called being part of the rat race, but then you know that as we all do. whats it all about sometimes we all wonder why we bother, like the winos you speak of, drinks not the problem just as drugs are not the problem for the junkie, they need an excuse to drop out, maybe there a lot braver than you and me (i'm not advocating you become a drunk or junkie by the way).
life can be very dull in this modern world, your nose stuck to the grind stone 9 to 5, we have our down times but we come back up cos wev'e got to pay the bills look after the kids.
but yeah sometimes because of the responseabilities and the shit that happens you think
"if i was dead would i really be missing that much, cos my life is pretty dull"
hang in there thats what were all doing, this maybe the only life we all have.

My Marriage Ending...Or Other Options
by doinmypart ini don't usually post regarding my personal relationship, but i need some help.. i've been married for 20+ years (married young, both of us raised as witnesses), and my wife and i have kids.
my wife feels like i've disappointed her, made a fool of her, and betrayed her when i stopped being a witness.
other than the witness-thing we seem to have a pretty good marriage, but she can't get over the fact that i'm never going to be a witness again.

regards to you doinmypart, sometimes you have to let things follow there natrual course.
it seems your wifes agenda is "either he comes back to the witnesses or we get divorced"
its painful but you cant make it work if its broken beyond repair
personally my mantra would be "i love you, i love the kids, i want to be with you, i will never stop you following your chosen course. but its not for me and if you cant tolerate that, then we should call it a day"
take control, yes its painful, yes change is hard......... you will come out the other side a happier, stronger man.
goodluck to you.

do single jw live ascetic?
by varian init s often not imaginable for me, to think that single jws live a life of abstinence.
i mean at the end of the day we are all humans with desires and wishes.
most singles are not trained to be like monks from tibet or stuff.. so what s the secret behind it?
-
warmasasunned
yeah i remember those days. i wasnt single but i was in a sexless marraige, so i basically was single.
i remember that scripture well "deaden your body members"
i remember waking up one morning after a full year of being a good boy, i had, had a wet dream.
i was so depressed, i realised i was surpressing all my natrual urges....
i really feel for these single folk it is sooooo sad.
i remember other brothers who were single buying the sun newspaper, keeping piles of them in there bedrooms or the boot of there car (page 3 girls topless).
truly sad ....truly

Did You Ever Fink On Another Witness?
by minimus indid you ever tell the elders that you knew of "wrongdoing" or that you knew a certain person wasn't adhering to the rules?.

Merry Christmas
by Ding innothing profound in this thread.. just a simple "merry christmas" to those here who no longer consider it as something evil to be avoided.. the message goes out especially to those on the board:.
-- who never were allowed to celebrate christmas growing up.
-- who weren't allowed to say "merry christmas" back to "worldlies" who said it to them.
