  What Separates Us?

  this is my first 4th of july as a non jw.

  so my question is what about patriotism?.

  as much as i believe that most of what the jw believes is in error.

  Our world is divide by skin color, race, sex, religion, and flag waving. If you meet someone and say "I 'm of Irish decent, catholic, republican, American from Texas. You have just mention 5 things that separates me from you!

  i think they call it diversity. if you want us to ignore what makes us different from each other, then you can't allow people to celebrate their own cultures and beliefs. i like to celebrate cinco de mayo, for example. (i'm half-white and half-latino). at the same time, i don't expect people to pretend i'm lily-white. i'm me, and my heritage is a part of me. what's wrong with celebrating your own individual heritage? what's wrong with waving the flag? we always take little american flags and sparklers with us at fourth of july celebrations and wave them around... it's fun. it doesn't mean i'm being exclusive. it just means i am an american citizen, and happy to be living in such a great country. how can you say jehovah's witnesses have it right on nationism? you mean as far as not saluting the flag or not defending the country in which they live? yeah i guess it's ok for my son to die defending his country, while jehovah's witnesses enjoy the religious freedoms 'worldly' men die defending...

  you studied for a while and visited at the encanto kingdom hall. i forgot your last name! i was only 14 when i met you. you were at least 28. you had a friend also who came with you to meetings. he had dark hair. anyway you studied but never cut your hair. then we moved to another kingdom hall. i ran into you at the snowbowl once after that, for an assembly. i was walking out of the kingdom hall, on some icy stairs, and you came up and took my hand and helped me down the stairs. i got yelled at good for talking to you. you were like soooo bad (to them).

  anyway, i wondered over the years whatever happened to you. you used to stare at me all the time. ooh i wish i had been a rebel then!

  i would have run away with you, screw the witnesses!

  What do JW's Do on the 4th?

  pardon my ignorance, having never been a jw, but what do jw's do on the fourth since they don't believe in flag and country?

  can they go to friend's bar-b-ques?

  is it ok if they go to a parade or firework display?

  Cygnus is in bad shape

  just so i don't miss anybody who is interested.... my results from the ekg and the echogram showed a severe leak in a heart valve.

  i am going for an angiogram on the 15th but the cardiologist says the liklihood is great that i will need open heart surgery.

  rare for a 30 year old but if necessary, it is necessary.. no word yet on the results of the blood work for liver enzymes and hepatitis.

  i always find it so annoying whenever there's a wt study on the good samaritan.

  no one at the hall ever suggests that the idea behind it, is that we should be helping our "enemies" in a charitable way, such as feeding them, clothing them, helping them out in a physcial way.....nope they always turn it around to where it only means we should be preaching to our enemies, cause lord only knows, actually helping someone out in a charitable way means less than nothing in the organization.. anyhoo, the last time we had an article on that (couple of years ago), i specifically put up my hand and said "this is not talking about preaching to our enemies.

  the samaritan did not preach to the jew nor vise versa.

  What can you do? You can take an interest in them. You can offer an encouraging word, a compliment. You can make a sincere inquiry regarding how they are, or volunteer to run errands for neighbors. There are really many things you can do.

  translation: sniff around for potential recruits, who are already vulnerable. give them 'comfort' and, when they are at their weakest point, zoom in for the kill and invite them to the kingdom hall.

  happened to us. right after my dad died. that's how it all started. they just happened to show up one day, when my mom was a basket case. i sometimes think they actually peruse the obituaries, looking for emotionally needy people...

  the mentality is that this system of things is going to end, so why bother? plus:

  think of all the people and agencies who could be helped: abused children, homeless people, preemies, terminally or critically ill children, big brothers, big sisters.. i think they don't want the flock to actually start caring about any of these 'worldly people'. my sister works in a children's hospital and told me about drowning victims who come in, the bereaved parents etc. with an odd sense of detachment. she just--doesn't--give--a--crap. because they are not jehovah's witnesses.

  I happen to like 'bad' men...naughty men...dirty boys...oooh yeah!

  ugh. i've had enough of bad boys to last me the rest of my life.

  i'll take a sensitive, insightful, creative, confident, intellectual man any day. bad boys are just that - boys. and insecure ones at that.
