  Ladies, how do you feel about be called a "weaker vessel"?

  only after joining the jehovah's witnesses did i ever hear women referred to as "weaker vessels".

  how does that make you feel?.

  Yes, it says to assign honor as to a weaker vessel, which means to treat the women in your life with more courtesy and respect than you do men, which is nothing bad. A weaker vessel, Paul goes on to explain, is often more precious and of more value.

  So, it simply means to quit treating women like something merely to satisfy your needs and be a nice guy. Paul was married once, he probably knew how far you get with women treating them without consideration, which is nowhere! LOL

  The fact that men have sometimes used these words to treat women like they're of less value than men is not only piggish, it's a total misapplication.

  DOGS - please help me understand.

  greetings, those who know dogs better than i:.

  is it normal for a dog [a retrieving variety] to sit in the rain endlessly until his care provider comes out of the nest to play fetch with him?.

  i don't care about getting wet myself; he's simply oblivious to weather [loves to jump off the dock and into our lake anytime].. thanks,.

  LOL...I'm a dog groomer, so I have to know a thing or two about doggies. I also train them...I have one that does all those cool doggie tricks like sit up and beg, roll over, shake hands, speak, jump, twirl like a ballerina, and we're working on belly crawling and playing dead.

  Anyway, dogs are individual as people, but breeds do have some general traits bred into them for the work they were bred to do.

  Retrievers are generally water loving, and don't mind wet weather. A dog bred to retrieve water fowl like ducks and geese would be pretty useless if if didn't love the water.

  The coats of retrievers are designed to protect them from getting cold when wet, as they are oilier than other dog coats to naturally shed water, and they have a thick protective undercoat, too.

  They don't feel cold when wet unless it's pretty darn cold. So, your doggie is pretty normal for a retriever. And they never get tired of playing fetch, either. I had a Lab who would catch a tennis ball we'd throw up on the roof and let roll down..she never seemed to get tired of figuring out where the ball would land next and would do it for HOURS, until exhausted.

  Your doggie probably can't figure out why you're not crazy about rain and cold lakes too. LOL

  Why FAITH is actually a form of suicide

  i once heard a psychiatrist explain suicide as the ultimate act of self-preservation.

  sound weird?.

  counter-intuitive as that sounds, he went on to explain why.. when all you value in life is threatened you do whatever desperate act that will preserve that value.. destruction of self stops the ......process.....of consciously losing.

  I was watching (again) the movie, A Beautiful Mind, and this bit of dialog between the two principles jumped out at me:

  Alicia: How big is the universe?
  Nash: Infinite.
  Alicia: How do you know?
  Nash: I know because all the data indicates it's infinite.
  Alicia: But it hasn't been proven yet.
  Nash: No.
  Alicia: You haven't seen it.
  Nash: No.
  Alicia: How do you know for sure?
  Nash: I don't, I just believe it.
  Alicia: It's the same with love I guess Actually, I think it's been more accurately theorized, based on more advanced data, that the universe is NOT infinite, but finite, but back in the 60s, when Nash believed that, it was the current state of information, the most advanced thinking of his time, so he put faith in that. I'm hoping as the data changed, he was smart enough to change his belief with it. I started thinking that here's this brilliant guy, winner of a Nobel Prize in economics (His "equilibrium" theories and mathematics are the basis of much of modern economic theory and also have influenced other fields like evolutionary biology) and he says he BELIEVES that the universe is infinite based on the data he has at that time. He doesn't KNOW, he BELIEVES, and he's right...none of us will ever know everything, but we BELIEVE quite a few things based on what information we have available at the time. We're all like that...no matter how brilliant, well read or studied, we're at the mercy of the current state of available data. Data changes, belief changes. The mistake would be to not continue to gather data, and never change belief according to what is the best available information.

  I've had more than one job that was usually done by a man, so I think it's about as stupid of a statement as I've ever read.

  I'm trying to figure out how being able to bear a child makes you weaker?

  Like one more honest than usual guy, comedian Ron White said.."How do women do it? They act like bleeding for a week every month from an internal organ is no big deal. If that happened to me, I'd crying and screaming and sure I was dying every moment of it and never get out of bed."

  Adam, Eve and their children

  so jws teach that if adam and eve hadn't disobeyed we would live in the garden of eden.

  based on the telling of the story, adam and eve were so quick to disobey they didn't have time to have any children in the garden.

  so what would have happened if adam and eve had not partaken, but some of their children had?

  Um...That'd be a valid question if you believe they were real people, but I don't. Some Jewish scholars (who should know, it's their book!) believe that the story of Adam and Eve is an allegory for the first people to have a spiritual awareness of the One God, not the first two people ever created or the first two humans.

  Would you still believe if there were no reward in the afterlife

  some months ago i was listening to a co-worker witnessing to some others about why he believes and why they should to.

  as i listened i kept hearing over and over about the "rewards" of eternal life in heaven in the kingdom of god.

  later on we had a conversation that went like this.. me: can i ask you a question about your beliefs?.

  Gee, I can hardly wait for the heavily vegetated swampy earth to die off, rot and become largely savannahs and grasslands again so we'll have more oil pretty soon. I'm sick of paying almost 3 bucks a gallon for gas!

  Some of the most valuable resources are VERY finite.

  I think capitalism, historically tends to appeal to the more moralistic forms of Christianity, while more socialistic ideas appeal to more liberal forms of Christianity, obviously.

  But, it is part of accepted economic theory (every theory has it's detractors, of course) that capitalism has some origins in Calvinistic/Lutheran ideas of how hard work is "goodness" and goodness is always rewarded. There are more liberal forms of Lutheranism these days though.

  I think it also comes from the idea that if you work hard, you may have more to contribute altruistically to society, but that little part of capitalism sort of got trampled on a bit along the way by the "greed is good" crowd.

  That's the trouble with debunking other people, you can seem to be recommending your philosophy instead and they're just competitors in the same market. LOL

  I don't think Terry is doing that, he just has his own ideas about some things, which is more than I can say for some people who mainly use their heads for a hat rack.

  When he starts asking for money, then we'll know he's starting his own religion or "new age philosophy". LOL

  The Protestant Work Ethic (or the Puritan Work Ethic) is a concept in sociology, economics and history, attributable to the work of Max Weber. It is based upon the notion that the Calvinist emphasis on the necessity for hard work as a component of a person's calling and worldly success and as a sign of personal salvation. It is argued that Protestants beginning with Martin Luther had reconceptualised worldly work as a duty which benefits both the individual and society as a whole.

  Thus, the Catholic idea of good works was transformed into an obligation to work diligently as a sign of grace. The term was first coined by Max Weber in his The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism.

  The Protestant work ethic is often credited with helping to define the societies of Northern Europe and other countries where Protestantism was common (for example, the Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States of America). In such societies, it is regarded by some observers as one of the cornerstones of national prosperity. Such observers would say that people in countries with Protestant roots tend to be more focused on effective working practices when compared to people in many Catholic countries (for example, Latin America, Spain, Italy, and France) where, they would argue, the people have a more lax attitude towards workign of grace.

  Cold readers are actually quite amazing in their intuition and ability to read kinetics and such. I enjoy watching them as a psychological study.

  I can duplicate cold reading to a tee, you ought to see me, as I'm quite intuitive and versed in kinetics myself, and also have a good understanding of psychology.

  I could convince quite a few people that I'm psychic in no time, I'm sure.

  Maybe I should consider that as a career...they seem to be doing well in spite of the recession. BEG
