Blood questions and new law in Canada news

my understanding is that if a child needs a blood transfusion and the parent refuses, the child becomes a ward of the state.

however, once the child gets the transfusion, do the parents just get the kid back?

does dss get involved?

The second one made me kind of irritated to say the least. Ive had MANY MANY medical procedures absolutely done against my will as a teen. I most certainly felt absolutly violated and am still mad about it..but I could never ever compare it to rape. Ive heard it compared to it many times by witnesses and possibly in some actual WT publications. Its not anger or irritaion directed at her or anything, its more that I really really hope she wasnt fed that idea and that no matter what happened to her, her health mental and physical, can be at its best.

I would have refused on the basis of my parents religion up to the age of 17. That scares me because I have never believed in god. Being born in does some weird things to your brain.

Please help re:objections to Thanksgiving?

what are the standard jw objections to thanksgiving?

do they claim there is any kind of a scriptural basis for condemning it?

i plan on asking someone about this and i'm curious what types of reasoning they might try to throw at me.

Usually the answer was yes providing there was a sale. We would Joke about "celebrating thanksgiving". Its actually common for that to happen here [eating turkey but not celebrating] I've seen people get crap for doing so in other halls though.

Why does BETHEL NOT ALLOW district and circuit overseers to get-together.

some time ago a district overseer i know decided to have a social gathering of the do and co's.

after a district convention.

when bethel found about it, the do was told to, and did cancel it immediately.. i have often wondered why they don't want the do's and co's to socialise.. what do you think?.

Its news to me. I've sat in a restaurant with a CO a DO and a PO post assembly.

It was actually a really bizarre experience.... and outside of that weirdness it was kind of funny how all at our table [it was huge as there was family too] had this big over inflated air of importance...and the staff and surrounding tables just looked at us oddly because of that.

I probably shouldnt mention it in public forums if they can get in trouble heh heh.

Recs for a media PC?

i am thinking of putting a pc on my entertainment center, with a wireless keyboard and mouse so that my flatscreen becomes another computer when i want to watch internet vids or use educational ppv for the grandkids.. i use a belkin g router, and tested it today by moving my desktop [compaq xp] over and hooking it up with a wireless adapter for a test.

worked great.

videos were fast and did not jerk, in fact perhaps better than when i was hooked to ethernet on my desk.. someone at work suggested a 'media center' computer for this use.

Tiger direct is awesome for building computers and if you chicken out they assemble it for you. It's often more cost effective than the other route.

Dell is not good. They also have a record of horrible customer service/tech support.

The poor kid looked horrified, yet obligated to trust their guardians opinion that it was okay....I see a bit of me in there ugh.

Edit: It also bothered me as a kid god killed babies in the flood. That and I almost er....dropped a brick when I discovered that my mom beleived all these things actually happened just that way. I thought it was stories with morals like fairy tales

Why we cannot know who wrote the articles in WT & AW?

It would give unnecessary glory to one person. That and if they get in trouble, it can be quiet...nobody will know the person who wrote the article on ____ comitted that very sin...or fell away as a result of research.

Name Some Stupid Watchtower Rules or Ideas

there's a lot.. one rule that is dumb is that a brother must wear a suit for a sunday public talk that he is giving.

any other time, the brother could wear a suit coat with a different pair of pants and not be counseled for it.. another dumb idea is that you cannot date a person unless you seriously might marry them.

if you're on a date, you were supposed to always have a chaperone and holding hands might not be allowed as well as sitting together.. what other dumb rules and ideas can you add?.

lol @ Albert. Hey I know some dubs that dated 3-6 years per couple....all with chaperones EVERY TIME. No matter how far one travelled it could not be boy girl in one car, even if one sat in the back seat. It was pretty crazy.

Cantleave, where I live Spanish sisters could have as many earrings as they liked because it was "cultural", same for East Indian women, they can wear nose rings! Scandal on the west coast! If youre white you can get away sometimes with 2 earrings in one ear. They have to be pretty discreet. [I have no resentment, I just dont know why this is so and if other halls have these rules]

I never understood any of that. Also, I knew of pioneers that have gotten well hidden tattoos. My sister was fine with her friend doing this after some initial protest. The first thing that comes out of her mouth when I mention I have a boyfriend? "Oh I hope he isnt dirty and gross with tattoos!"

The dressing to even walk into bethel rules are pretty wow [someone posted scans]. Now I do recall when I visited there I had to travel 5 hours in a skirt, sitting of course. It was uncomfortable at the least, that and I was getting yelled at the whole time because "you cant have a wrinkled skirt in bethel, it isnt up to Jehovah's Standard".

Oh god forbid I have a wrinkle in my skirt from travelling all day in the middle of a very unusually hot summer. Ugh.

Elder wants to come for shepherding call

we are newly fading (actually, mostly disappearing).

i haven't been to meetings in about 3 months maybe and hubby hasn't gone in a month or more.

i certainly don't plan on returning, hubby is still undecided.. anyway, an elder called and wants to come do a shepherding call.

I just said I didnt have any time, work was crazy and my health was bad. After nagging for 3 weeks straight, the only person that ever remotely cared enough to harass me to "encourage me" gave up. They had personal investment in the situation, otherwise they probably wouldn't have been as pushy.

Dont say anything negative or critical as said. You may even want to avoid saying you might have a problem with any part of the WT even just people you know sort of thing as they will have an excuse for everything/everyone and it will come back to you "being unreasonable" [which is not the case].

Nobody came to our house it was always too much of a walk. My sister got real strict about lights on but I was in the front room and would leave them on in hopes of seeing how disruptive it would be. Nothing. Too bad. I'd love to hear her scream about the "demo" [said dee-mo] holiday in front of children so I could be the hero and tell her to get lost [I was not baptised until my late teen years and I was randomly defiant].

As kids,Mom would take us to a movie so we would get to do something special too. One year though she made the mistake of taking us to fantasia, we walked out when the big dark character came on screen and apparently started summoning demons.

I got to see most of the film, and she bought us Mc Donalds for making us walk out. We didn't mind at all. Other years we'd go to the Halloween swim and have great fun having the pool to ourselves.

On the years we did stay home we would laugh and turn out all our lights while being rather saturnine about it joking we needed to hide [my sister was not impressed by the rest of us].

This year was my 1st actually participating. I had a lot of fun. I dont feel bad for missing it as a kid, but it would have been a riot to do every year as a kid. I cant wait until I have my own house for kids to knock at. Id hide in a costume on my lawn and scare them heh heh heh
