Why does every prophecy has to have two (or more) completions?
by teel inyou know the standard jw doctrine, babylon the great, fall of jerusalem, kingship of david, jonah's life you name it, it has to have a "bigger completion" later.
some of these are actually mentioned in the bible - jesus being the bigger jonah, revelations mentioning the fall of babylon the great many years after the actuall babylon fell, jerusalem falling to babylon was just a precursor to jerusalem falling to the romans, which was just a precursor to... (what now?
meh... is old age creeping upon me?

link: Especially when you write the prophecy after the fact...
teel: I think the problem is that the second 'greater' fullfillment allows the interpreter an even GREATER wiggly room in interpreting exactly what 'greater' mean, for example all prophesys fullfilled by the WTS.
IMHO history seem to repeat itself because the nature of humans remain the same. Try to pick any ancient city and read about it on wikipedia. Chances are it has been invaded and detroyed a couple of times.

Thank you possible san and link!
PS: I think the problem is not what you are saying, but that you used some words that made it very hard to understand what you meant - it sounded like you asked people to be eternally thankfull to whoever prepared the pdf and, well, forever is a long time for a pdf! :-) . If you are afraid of copyright law, i think you can just start a thread here and ask someone to put it online if you mail it to him/her, or provide a link to that forum (which i havent quite gotten it to work yet).

Official visit from two local elders one fine Sunday morning
by SnakesInTheTower inwell, it finally happened.
a week ago sunday my fiancee and i were sitting in the living room drinking coffee and watching the morning talking heads when we heard the crunch of tires on the gravel in the driveaway, about 10:30 or so.
we looked at each other with that "are you expecting anyone?

SNAKES: I read something very true here the day i registered but i only really begin to understand now: The greatest victory over the WT is to live a good life. Congratulation on turning those two elders, with their judicial committe and all their powers, into two sad old men who worship a printing company. You won and didnt even have to argue them :-).

DGP: That software is totally redundant. I think all browsers allow for anonymous surfing, or at least give a very easy way to delete the history. I use firefox, it can allow for totally anonymous surfing, ie. no cookies, no history.
Also, the IP is not really relevant since it is difficult to tie it to a name and many have dynamic ips.

Lady Lee: They do not even require the IP. All they need to do is to create a simple login system where you got to supply your name and congregation when you register. The elders can then weed out any fake accounts. Then they can use the usual javascript history hacks to check if a given set of blacklisted sites have been visited - jwfacts, silentlambs, whatever is deemed apostate. Or alternatively, they can just require a custom active-x plugin to be installed.
At any rate, i think it would backfire in a major way if they even *dreamed* about using that information, or when it became known they even recorded it.

Did You Have Any Weirdo JWs In Your Hall?
by minimus inin the 2 halls i was in, there were a few.
but the most memorable one was an elderly pioneer who would ask the householder if they wanted to hear about "the truth".
when they quite naturally said ,"no", he responded with, "if you don't believe in jesus, jesus will turn you into a pig"!.

Perhaps this is more in the creepy department, but I talked with an unbabtized puplisher the other day. Turns out his single 50-something study conductor had told him that his mission was to mary a young <20 jw girl. The guy is an elder. yah, you can really feel the holy spirit at work....

why the hell they dont just replace the copyrighted images and slap the whole thing online is beyond me, but oh well.
I also saw a strange thing on watchtower.org the other day, there was a small internet 'game' where you had to match images with scriptures. It would seem they are adopting a different, more open, media strategy. Thumps of to the watchtower for opening up, even just a little bit!
Wonder what is next? a heavily moderated internet forum on watchtower.org where all postings need to be 'approved'?

VoidEater: Yes - argh. i am NOT saying this to become an appologist, it just seem so STUPID. I mean, it has MEDIA DISASTER written all over it, and the benefit just seem so small. Jehovahs Witnesses seem to thrive on persecution, it fit right into their demonology, and they sure as hell didnt lift a finger for Malawi.
It is properly just me who does not understand the bastard child of coorporate and religious stupidity and i agree - i had not thought about the sence of power, being able to 'spy' on babylon the great. Hell, a couple of them might even wait eagerly on signs of the great persecution preceding the big A. :-)
