he is not re-instated.
He mellowed a bit towards the witnesses, but the last time i was back in ireland - he was at it again.
His brother and his family are, to the best of my knowlege still in (my family are in the same circuit)
google is not my friend anymore, it seems, i cant find a thing.. i was searching for the audio file where john may, the elder from dublin, tells his story when he traveled to brooklyn to find out the truth about the ray franz incident.
i do not mean the talk of his that you can find on 4jehovah.org or 4witness.org, this was a different audio testimony where he just basically tells what happened to him and to his irish elder friend merriman when they wanted to discuss the rf issue with the gb.
i had this file once but cant find it anymore.

i have been to both, bethel (all 3 complexes: brooklyn, walkill, paterson plus the jersey city stanley theater) as a teenager, and to tour the lds (mormon) complex in salt lake city as an adult.
i did bethel as a "witness" child, and slc as a totally non-jw adult.
the lds complex seemed more open to the public, inviting and comfortable.
I remember back in my old city, on a bank holiday there was this "open day" of all the places that were usually closed to the public - old buildings that had turned to offices , masonic lodge etc) an interesting one was mormon meeting place - i went in there, and it was freaky how much like a hall it was , down to the over eager kids in suits giving me tracts about how great life as a mormon is.
Then I went to the synagogue and chatted to the rabbi who was equally happy to chat about the rugby as his was about religion (Which we did a lot of)
don't you hate the hypocrisy when you run into a witness you haven't seen in over 5 years (even thought they live less than five miles away in the same town) and they say, "we miss you at the meetings?
" they can't call or stop bye to say hello, but they miss me at the meetings.
what crap.
We get the same thing , if we miss one meeting the COBE © emails both me AND my wife seperately to ask if everything is ok, we were missed at the meetings.
I usually just email back and say "oh we were away" or "sorry, got caught at work" , and my favourite one "oh, we were at the beach for the morning, and missed the train that would get us back in time" (even though we saw that train pull out of the station as we tucked into our food and wine )
so a good friend of mine e-maild me today with this information.
aparently brother hurd says as of 2010 all the magazine printing and distribution will be moved to canada.
the only printing the us will do is the books.
yes, but spain is a different case...
1 country - 4 languages. Some are more politicised than others, so it was just blanket castillian spanish to ensure that brothers and sisters weren't caught in the mire of linguistic nationalism. However, the government in catalunya is enforcing catalan on day to day life - so the society had to buckle. And the catalan brothers are liking it - very much.
Anyone born in catalunya in the last 20 years is completely bi-lingual, however most can go through life without having to speak spanish (they only do so to people that do not speak catalan. The only difference was that at meetings, they would have to do everything in castillian spanish.
not any more - up in my part of the country the basques are wondering when this will happen for them :D

It's hard to say really - there are so many witnesses anyway that the territory (Esp in the cities) is overworked , people know full well about the witnesses and what they believe
There are two things to consider here though....
First - with language "normalisation" legislation, everything in life must be equally availiable in spanish and catalan. So they are slowly releasing more and more literature that is in day to day use by brothers - meeting material etc. For instance, in the KH's they were legally obliged to put up catalan years texts and signs.
second - a lot of the brothers are very proud of being catalan, so much so that many prefer to go to english and other foreign language groups rather than speak spanish, and many older ones do not read spanish very well. The nationalism here is pride in the language (not pride in the state) so each region is proud of their own language (unfortunately where I live, that pride manifests itself in ETA terrorism). The difference is between basque and catalan - with basque it has become a political issue - in catalunya it is purely linguistic.

well this is more local to spain - but caused a lot of cheer yesterday at the barcelona convention (a friend was baptized, so we went for the weekend - lovely city - you must visit someime)
whether you know this or not - in that part of spain, they have their own language called Catalan. Since Franco fell, it has been gaining more and more ground, all education is done in it , all official paperwork etc, it is called "language normalisation". There is all manner of legislation regarding it.
anyway, over the last few years they have been having more and more books released in catalan, this year it was "keep yourself in gods love". Then in the last talk last night, there was an announcement that brothers and sisters can choose to comment in catalan, and give talks in catalan. eventually, the aim is to have at least 1 catalan congregation per kingdom hall (4 congs share each KH here)
it made all the sheep , except of course the south americans immigrants, many of whom do not speak catalan, happy
a co-worker of mine whose, wife and daughters are jehovahs witnesses, told me about situation that his oldest daughter finds abhorrent.
he said that a close friend of his daughter was found dead in a car the other day.
she was in her early 30's and had been a lifelong jw.
That situation is horrid
there was an awful case in my home country where a brother, universally loved, took his own life following a failed marriage.
The service was at a crematorian, and well attended (the CO was there, as was someone from the bethel)
god it was sad, but it did show love for the family with so many being there. The prayer (said by the CO) pulled so many to tears - it is etched in my brain
"Jehovah, we know of your love for us, and your love for this family - we leave them in your hands, and in the hearts of their friends and we leave xxxxxxx in your memory"
it is amazing what can be said, without saying anything.
in my mind lately this thought is spinning round and round.
can you find real love in the wt world?
i guess you cant.
hmmm, i have to disagree , at least in my case - but i think my and I are both equally cynical when it comes to the WTS, to be honest we often have too much fun, and neglect our "obligations" (Stop sniggering down the back!) in that we'd rather be chilling out with eachother either at the beach or in our neighbourhood rather than be sitting in doing our family study.
I have seen marriages and relationships that were disasters, but the same amongst my friends that aren't witnesses. I have also seen couples both in and out of the org that are very much in love.
in the org, if you get married just for sex - you're going to get disappointed , but if you marry a girl for the right reasons (you love spending time with her, chatting with her - and want to continue) and you are able to function alone, together in all pursuits- not just WT shit , then it'll last.
after being gone from the jw's for many years now , and having done extensive research on the history of god and the belief in him , i can't seem to find any logical way to have a belief in an invisble being up there ruling over us.
how many here still believe?
how many don't?.
no, I do not believe - every fibre in my being shakes when i write or think that sentence - however for me
god=jehovah=evil manaical being that will smite me for any reason.
I believe in humans, i believe in good humans - it is what i strive to see, and what I strive to be.
All you need, is love
ever notice how the "happiest people on earth" are also the most class-oriented?
to say that jesus said his followers should all be on equal footing, it's incredible how much the r&f witness is not on equal footing.
the social structure in the congregation is more complex than the blueprints of a nuclear warhead, but just so that you "remember your place", see if you can find where your niche was/is:
I agree Inquiry man.
The cong I grew up in wasn't as layered as this.
I was in the PO family , and my childhood friends were mostly from spiritually split homes. My closest JW neighbour that I used to walk to school with was 1 of 7 kids, mother was a witness, father was THE NICEST MAN ever, but never baptised or attended memorials. My parents never had any issues with me hanging out with them.
There was 4 special pioneer sisters, but they weren't held up as anything special - my favourite elder (some of the ex gilead's may know him) was a special pioneer who worked 30 hours a week to make sure his incredibly sweet wife always had enough flowers and cheese :D and that he could always make it to the latest films.
Our elders were a mixture of hyper zealous, one had a gay daughter, one an autistic son, one a party animal.
Maybe ours was an irregularity, however our hall was (and by all accounts still is, based on my last visits) a very level playing field.
